The hotel is well run, with very friendly staff. Breakfasts are excellent, with a wide selection of high quality food. The rooms are good, with good bathrooms, and free parking. It is in a quiet location by the river, with local walks, and a short walk into town.

If you want to holiday in North Devon the only place to stay in at The Imperial Hotel Barnstaple. All members of Staff are dedicated to their positions providing an enjoyable stay. Food exceptional well presented. Retire to the comfortable lounge area and eventually to a bright and clean bedroom

The place has some undeniable charm, but it's hard to understand how it can continue to exist. It does cater mainly for retired couple couples, but besides the obvious areas like the lobby and the bar it is very faded. Especially the bathrooms and the hallways are in very poor condition. Plus points are fairly nice though old fashioned rooms,...

Nobody does Valentines like Brends Imperial Hotel. Warm welcome, excellent level of service and mouth-watering food and great value for money! We spent a much needed break of three nights dinner, bed and breakfast and left refreshed.

Had a 3 night DBB stay over Valentines day 2017. The room was well appointed and comfortable, breakfast and dinner were excellent, with plenty of choice on the dinner and breakfast menu. The hotel is sited next to the river and about one minute from the main shopping area, the Imperial has ample car parking which is free to guests....

We had 3 nights at the Imperial with dinner and bed & breakfast in room 4 of River Court which was a great room on the ground floor overlooking the river. The overall service was top class along with the quality and choice of food. Staff were all genuine and providing a great service - nothing too much trouble. A...

It has been a long standing ambition to stay at the Imperial. My partner's birthday proved the ideal opportunity. Without doubt this I one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed in and our normal hotels are 4/5 star. Deluxe room was perfect, meals outstanding, staff exemplary. A fabulous break. Thanks to the management and staff for a joyous...

My wife and I had a mini-break last week and found everything excellent. We had a superior room at the rear and half board. Room, food, staff and facilities could not be faulted. We certainly hope to return.

We have visited the Imperial hotel before and this weekend did not disappoint. As before the staff were very attentive, the rooms excellent and the food and service in the restaurant first class. We took my very elderly parents with us and the staff were all most helpful, particularly with my father who is virtually blind.

Excellent long weekend as usual. Stayed at The Imperial on 5 occasions and never been disappointed. Always very friendly, excellent service and really good food. We were very impressed with the lady playing the harp during dinner on Sunday evening. Excellent hotel altogether, we look forward to our next stay.

“302 is one of the smaller rooms and near the lift, which is convenient. There is no noise from the lift, unlike some other hotels we have stayed in. The view is over the car park, but we paid a very reasonable price and the room itself was very pleasant and very comfortable.”
