Family run public house with three letting bedrooms two of which are ensuite and one with private shower and toilet, there is also free wifi and tea and coffee making facilities in all rooms. We are just a 15 More minute walk from the beautiful city centre of Durham with its numerous bars and restaurants and the world renowned Cathedral and castle. Also The Shoes is a recent winner of the television show 4 in a bed which is shown on channel 4. We do have a very good record for repeat visitors which we think shows that our hard work is appreciated. Less

The pub is an unassuming bar on the edge of the city. We arrived, with our bags (we were touring the north o

I don't know how anyone could not realise that we are a pub with rooms and that all rooms are advertised as twin rooms and are 3 star rated by Visit England as we have been for a few years now. A key is given to all of our guests for a side entrance to the pub so that they don't have to walk through the bar, however most of them are more than happy to either have a drink or just chat with regulars or other guests in the bar. The comment about the mattresses is the first we have ever had that was not a positive comment about them and in our opinion the mattresses and towels are more than adequate.I accept that if you are wanting a 5 star stay The Shoes is not for you but it is a very well established and successful 3 star rated business, charging 3 star prices giving terrific value for money. Thank you for your comments.

Is it possible to walk into Durham from The Shoes, thanks
Yes - about 10 -15 minutes. It will take longer coming back as there are some steep hills
