Accommodation in a Pub. Spectacularly clean, very good sized room and shower room Breakfast was massive(which if you do not want it he can deduct from the bill) Excellent friendly staff and owner. Good parking. Excellent location for exploring on foot, I would not recommend using the car in Durham Buses pass the door into town whilst I would use... More

rooms are above a pub, for the price it was really a good deal! no breakfast but the service staff i met when i checked in at 11pm and the next morning were absolutely lovely! my only gripe would be that for the room i got right at the top, the bathroom was outside. i'd preferred en-suite but it was... Welcoming pub with great spirit. Billy Gowland is the owner and makes you feel at home immediately. We stayed in room 2 which has a nice view of Gilesgate. Good wifi - nice shower and great English breakfast. Small, but good selection of malt whiskies. Would definitely return.

The staff was very friendly and hardworking and made us feel quite at home. The rooms were a tat old fashioned but spacious and super clean! The typical English breakfast was perfectly prepared. Bottom line: our club of six friends enjoyed our stay here very much.

Stayed for two nights from 9-11th October 2015, and absolutely loved it. Cozy and atmospheric pub with three lovely large ensuite rooms upstairs. The rooms were hotel standard and despite being above a pub, the noise was not disturbing in the least - and the pub closed at a reasonable time. The service was fantastic, and the food absolutely delightful.... More

My wife, son, daughter and I stayed in the Shoes on 23-24 June 2015 whilst attending a graduation in Durham. A great little find considering how difficult it is to find accommodation in Durham around graduation time. Its about 25 minutes walk into the centre but a much shorter taxi ride - Durham is hilly. It is a very welcoming... More

Stayed for one night with my wife over the RFL's Magic Weekend. Just a decent pub with 3 rooms upstairs. No frills, but both the pub itself and the room were extremely clean and tidy. Parking on site and a pleasant 25 minute stroll into the city. Good breakfast. Only complaints were the cramped bathroom and the beds. Beds were... More

I stayed in Durham on the spur of the moment, and the Shoes was recommended by the tourist board. This old style pub with rooms above is friendly and homely. Its not beautiful from the outside, but I think it is classic. I worried about noise (the pub was lively but not exceedingly loud, and things shut down at a... More
