It's a bit weird to check in in the middle of the restaurant - appreciate it can't really be helped, but it was full and it just felt like everyone was watching us and listening so a tad invasive. The girl who checked us in asked if we would like a room with a balcony, but then said "well, it's a rooftop with a bench on."
Our room was up two sets of stairs which was fine for us.
The room was lovely enough. The girl was right about the "balcony", it was just the rooftop. We don't care, but I would recommend them to cordon of the area so it's just the bench part. Having worked in hotels, I know how the public can use any opportunity for an "accident" and there was a lot of random stuff on the roof trop like gardening tools etc. But this area would be so perfect during summer as your own little beer garden as you can get drinks from the bar downstairs!
The staff were really friendly and explained how to get in once the pub part is closed. Seen people complain on Trip Advisor about how early they shut, but you're literally in prime location and I think it's very good of a venue to shut early because people can't control themselves and cause problems!
We slept well and found everything to be comfortable. My only gripe would be that the wifi was pretty poor. It would disconnect frequently as it didn't have signal by the bed which was annoying.
Overall a great stay and would definitely chose the Normandie again when we come down that way!
We paid £120 and there was no breakfast included yet on the Internet it states they offer a full Welsh breakfast. It would be beneficial to update their information.
We ate at the restaurant on site for one evening, the meal was outstanding and there was plenty of it, we did order an extra side of garlic bread and coleslaw but we really didn't need it.
We will definitely be back.
Thank you Rosie and the team.
Reception was very modern and trendy, with staff helpful, pleasant and showing us to the room.
Room 6 was very dated and not clean...............
Of particular concern was the mould and damp on the ceiling and walls. Clearly this had been a previous concern as their were x3 airfresheners in the room to try and hide the smell of damp.
The window didn't fit the wall apature as there was a gap between the frame and the wall. Shower screen didn't fit the side of the bath so floor was soaked after use, which then started seeping into the room as the bathroom door in no way fitted the frame.
Hair bands and hair clips on floor (obviously not been hoovered recently).
Weather was rather warm and only air con was a tiny fan that you could not leave on all night as it was so noisy & rattled itself off of the dressing table.
UHT milk was nearly out of date so coffee had white bits floating in it.
Could not have a wash or a wet shave in the sink due to no plug.
Location was very central, but noisy with only sinle glazing, not forgetting the gap in the window.
The meat comes from an award winning butchers from Narberth, my partner and I both ordered the 16oz rump and were delightfully stuffed! Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the mushroom and onion that comes with it was a lovely addition.
Another positive was the price. Tenby isn't cheap anyway but other pubs and restaurants will offer a smaller cut of meat from the local cash & carry for £22. This was £26 and well worth it. We'll definitely be back
Room was fine although window didn’t seem to shut properly and not double glazed - hence SO noisy !! Sat night it went on till 230 am. Ask for a room facing the back.
Very clean room , adequate tea and coffee making facilities.
Disappointed no breakfast so we took a cool box , the second day we tried to go out to a recommended restaurant but as it was Sunday we were a bit too early !
The staff at the Normandie really go the extra mile though. Nicky, Rosie , Jade plus all the others whose names I’ve forgotten - you are amazing. From fixing the tv ( maybe put one remote away and leave a few instructions ? ) to recommending restaurants for a special anniversary dinner they are SO helpful.
Room tip. If you have mobility problems ask for the first floor rooms.
Altogether a lovely stay.
"Best to ask the team , we went during week and not peak time, you are above a pub but we hardly heard anything from there."Read full review
"There is no parking at this hotel but it's only about 5-10 minute walk, depending on how many people are about to the multi storey pay and display car park."Read full review
