Polite staff, great food at good value, lovely charming area, very clean room, only small point is pool steps are steep for smaller kids, and was a little heavy on the chlorine, but overall, no complaints.
Fantastic food, nice rooms, close to local village for beers, food and walks. But it's so nice in the hotel we usually just stay in the bar or TV room at the hotel. A superb base for walking and cycling. 10 stars

In the immediate area, it's a short walk to the town centre by road or riverside walk, and there are three pubs. The Cheviot is a nice pub serving good food at reasonable prices. If you like 'ribs', they serve a FULL rack for about £12, I don't recommend having a starter beforehand. From the High St, there is a return walk that takes you through ancient woodland to an impressive waterfall, (under 3 miles return trip). Out and about, the Roman Wall and forts are easily accessed, and Kielder resevoir is a short drive away. There are a few 'English Heritage' type sites around also.(eg. Belsay Hall and Castle)
