Welcoming, fire place going, good food and lovely room. I stayed there last weekend and the price of the (very nice comfy) room at £70 a night is still fair for a solo traveller. The food was lovely and on the large portion side which explains why I couldn't go for a dessert the 2nd night! Shame as I had... More

Having stayed at the Royal Oak on several occasions over the past 15 years up until a few years ago, we were keen to experience the Inn since the change of ownership and the alterations. We stayed for 2 nights half board. On arrival we were met with a warm welcome from Douglas the owner and showed to our room... More

We eat here on a regular basis ( Sunday lunch every two weeks and occasional suppers in between ) because the food is excellent, the ales are splendid and the place itself is very cosy, welcoming and unpretentious. We are always greeted warmly and, having visited very many other local Exmoor pubs, we consider The Royal Oak one of the... More

We ate on Saturday night and we're greeted by the friendly owner on our arrival. Good choice of local ales and wine. The food was excellent, pea and mint soup to start, pies ,fish and liver for mains all top notch. Service was good, dogs allowed in bar area, but not in restaurant area which is good (we are dog... We were recommend to have dinner here, which we did a while ago. This little venue had a good name many years ago, it then changed hands a few times and now it has a new owner. As pleasant and helpful as everyone was, I was left somewhat disappointed and felt that the 'heart' had gone out of this place.... More

We drove from Dorset to luxborough and decided to take a walk to the local pub in the hope of a drink and some food, along with our dog jasper. We arrived at 3 ish and lunch was finished but decided to go in anyway for a drink and to book for food later in the day. The gentlemen behind... More

Set in some of the most beautiful Somerset country side this old inn offers a friendly welcome, well kept beers and food of a very high standard at very sensible prices. The menu is short but well selected and choosing favourite is the hardest part. Service by the owner is always excellent and friendly. Rather than go to your old... More

Wonderful setting in amazing valley; the Royal Oak has great atmosphere and very traditional surroundings. We ate fairly early evening and the food and service was excellent; generous portions, good seasonal vegetables and brilliant flavours. Good range of beers, lagers and cider. Well used by the locals which is always a good sign. Busy with good, friendly atmosphere. We would... More
