We have very pleasant and awesome experience staying in Bavanggazo Rungus Longhouse. Accommodation is basic but Rungus hospitality is very heart warming. Owner Suzan and her family treat guests like their friends, their home cooking is delicious and served with abundant dishes even just 3 of us that checked in that night. It was very interesting to witness their cultural dance inside the longhouse itself after our dinner. We fortunate to add this longhouse stay in our Sabah trip's itinerary to get to learn a little on Rungus culture and sample their cuisine.

Do not go expecting an ensuite bathroom or air-con. This is a genuine experience of living like a local. We spent one night in the longhouse and really enjoyed it. The family (actually the head of the nearby village) were very welcoming and friendly, sharing their food, their culture (dancing, singing, beadwork) and their home (although as guests we were given mosquito nets to help us through the night). We went with a guide who explained a lot of the local culture; I would recommend this as they speak their own language in the village and you would miss a lot without an interpreter). The local market and the gong-making artisans are also worth a visit. If you want to see the real life of Sabah, this is an amazing experience.

Stayed at Rungus Longhouse for one night after doing a day's cycling trip from Kudat to the most northern tip of Borneo. A really interesting place to stay for the night unlike anything I have ever stayed in before! The entire house is made of bamboo and sits on stilts. You take your shoes off before doing in. There are communal showers and toilets outside the longhouse. The rooms are clean basic...mattress, pillow and mosquito net. There are gaps between the bamboos so you can see into the other rooms and also down to the ground below but it's all part of the fun! Not the most restful night's sleep as there were a lot of animal and insect noises in the night, but it was a really fun experience. The food that was cooked for each meal was fresh and made with local ingredients. It was delicious! The local kids perform a dance show in the evening and get you to join in. Would definitely recommend this place to stay as something unique and different to do for a night!

We did a short visit to the longhouse, the entrance fee is RM3 for Malaysian and RM5 for non-Malaysian. An indigenous Rungus-ian has quite a well spoken Malay is kind to explain the tradition and way of living back in those days. The longhouse is definitely an eye-opening experience for those who never seen it before. Worth a detour if you're passing by

As it was part of the whole package in visiting Tip of Borneo in Kudat, we didn't manage to put up for a night or two over at the Rungus Longhouse. While on the way back from Kudat, we had our traditionally cooked local cuisine for lunch here which is surprisingly not only good, but healthy! Now you know why the Sabahans are so fit.

We only had the opportunity to view the interior portions of the Rungus Longhouse which was constructed with bamboos all over. An interesting feel to be inside one as I've never been in one prior to this. There were ten rooms attached side by side with a large common area just outside of the rooms and a communal bathroom leading out from the longhouse. After having some photos taken, we decided to get some souvenirs from a makeshift booth inside the house itself. These are all made from beads and chained together to make a fascinating beautiful decor.

One thing's for sure, with that little time given to you, you would certainly be able to still experience the cooling breeze flowing through the strategically built longhouse, the common area shared by the villagers in resting and as well as the common grounds surrounding the longhouse.

Definitely something. Worth to those who haven't seen a long house before. The place is easy to find, very near to other sight seeing such as the Gong making factory, the Honey Bee Farm and the tip of Borneo.

This longhouse was one of our most interesting choices of accommodation for our whole trip. We loved that there was basically a mattress on a bamboo floor through which you could see the ground below and a simple mosquito net to cover us because we didn't feel like we were at home which is exactly what we wanted.

The people here were so lovely ad took us to the gong making village as well as the honey making village and the tip of Borneo. In fact we are still in contact with them as they were so helpful. We were the only visitors at the time and we stayed for two nights so we had the whole place to ourselves. The food provided was great and they gave us the biggest variety of fruits that we had never even seen before.

There was a cultural dance for us and we got to meet all of the village people, they even made us dance with them.
Lots of wild dogs in the street though which was a bit creepy.
Great experience and great hospitality

We stayed one night and enjoyed it - definitely an experience! Your stay is in a traditional longhouse - very basic facilities as explained by other reviewers - communal shower and toilet facilities and small rooms with two matresses and mosquito nets. One electric light in the room so a torch is a good idea for night trips to the loo. We were the only guests staying but were still presented with some cultural evening entertainment and good local food.

Other reviewers have commented on the structure of the longhouse, so I won't repeat it. I enjoyed staying in it for one night, because of the experience and the ability to learn about the Rungus people and their customs. The rooms with the mattresses and mosquito nets were very basic indeed, with lots of natural ventilation, but I expected that. It did get a bit cool in the night, and I had to get my towel to use as a blanket, as there were no top sheets or blankets provided . If you have an issue with insects, you might think twice about staying here, but it didn't bother me. I actually had a good night's sleep here. My two friends, however, did not and were more than happy to leave.

The shower and toilet block is separate, which means a walk outside if you need to use the facilities in the night, which I did. Make sure you have insect repellent on if you do. The showers were cold while we were there. I found it quite refreshing in the humidity. My friends were less impressed.

The cultural show in the evening was interesting, but we did not have any real interaction with the performers, as others have mentioned they did. We felt that it was as if they were just going through the motions for us, and weren't particularly enthusiastic. Mind you, there were only the three of us and a family of four staying there that night.

The food we ate was all locally grown or sourced and simply prepared. We didn't go hungry. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all pretty much the same fare.

"The rooms are all the same. They have thin bark walls was occational gaps so don't expect isolation. It all helped to contribute to the longhouse experience."
