Don't be put off by the austere google street view of this delightful little hotel in Lamarque - this is truly a little gem in a beautiful part of La Gironde!

The hosts are charming, very helpful and considerate, chatting to you on arrival and offering refreshments, giving you suggestions for local sights and restaurants.

Breakfast was in a little courtyard at the back - under a perfectly blue sky on a warm morning it feels more like a Greek island rather than western France.

The rooms have everything you need - not the biggest rooms in the world, but charmingly furnished with individual room names - we stayed in "Le Raisin".

The hotel has a great location as well - a sleepy village within a stone's throw of numerous vineyards and degustations - wine lover's heaven. And a little further away are the Atlantic beaches and lakes - you can get to Lacanau in less than an hour through the tranquil backroads.

N.B - the hosts don't speak much English, so be prepared to brush up your rusty French - a good opportunity to practise! Also the stairs are quite narrow to the rooms, so might be a little tricky for those with mobility difficulties.

We spent three nights in Lamarque with a 9 year old child and a baby. We were offered an extra bed and a baby bed in the room, and other things such as a micro wave oven and a baby chair were available. The room was nice, quiet and clean, and the bathroom was new and very comfortable. The hosts are very friendly and helpful if you need anything (such as baby equipment) but also concerning the local sights, chateaux and restaurants.
The breakfast is completely satisfying with both bread, croissants, yoghurts, eggs and ham.
All in all this is a nice, clean and cosy place to stay if you don't need great luxury but likes a simple and welcoming athmosphere at a good price.
The location is perfect if you're on a "wine trip". This was not our purpose, but we found the place well situated between Bordeaux and the beaches wchich we could easily reach during the day.

Well positioned for visiting the Medoc area this little hotel/B+B was a great spot to stay. The room was a very good size with a bath/shower over, there are 5 rooms in total the others have showers. The accommodation is simple, comfortable, quiet and very clean, The breakfast is included and is very good with a slightly different warm item and sweet item each day along with the usual croissant/bread/yogurt. The hosts were friendly and helpful. A kettle and mugs are provided. As mentioned by others there is a spiral staircase so be aware if you have very big bags or mobility issues. There is no air-conditioning but fans are provided. We were very comfortable indeed and enjoyed our stay very much.

we found the room to be too small, and it was hard to bring up our suitcases through the tiny stairs, not very practical.
the people are friendly - they could organize more activities with chateaux, as we did not get to see any from the inside through them.

On my first day of vacation I became Ill from something I ate in La Rochelle. Unfortunately I had to drive to my first stop which was Le Medoc de Maxou...fortunately, when I arrived they noticed I wasn't looking right and suggested I eat something. The called a restaurant a few blocks away and told the I was coming as it was getting fairly late. After dinner I returned to my room and passed out. When I awoke I was surprised to find that I had slept for 12 hours. It was noon but the staff held breakfast for me and gave me some in formation on local wineries. The room was fresh and clean with new bathroom appliances. It was a very comfortable stay.

We called in here without a reservation and were shown to a lovely room on the top floor. It was bright, spacious and quiet with a large very comfortable bed. The bathroom was very modern and well lit. There were tea/ coffee making facilities in the room.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the spiral staircase may prove difficult for anyone with mobility issues, but we didn't find it a problem.
Breakfast was served by our charming host and even included a fried egg and freshly made crepe, a nice touch.

We also used the bicycles to tootle about the local area and visit vineyards.

Very pleasant place to stay and highly recommended.

Small and intimate hotel. Lamarque is beautifully situated in the Haut Medoc and it was a true pleasure to wander from this village for the day and return to a comfortable room. The rooms are small, as are the bathrooms. The circular, narrow staircase could be problematic for the disabled, large luggage or anyone travelling with children. The breakfast was very pleasant, as were our hosts.

We stayed six nights at this very clean & quiet hotel. The breakfast was more than we could possibly eat; meat & cheese, cereal, yogurt, apple sauce, eggs, fresh kiwis, bread, croissants and several delicious homemade jams. We even had fresh roses in our room.
The hosts are so friendly, and offer great suggestions for nearby activities and restaurants. We had some difficulty communicating with them. One evening the hosts invited all of the hotel guests to join them for aperitifs. We had a delightful time with them, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We knew very little French, but they did understand some English when spoken slowly.
As another reviewer mentioned, it is a good location for visiting chateaus, about 25 to 30 minutes outside of Bordeaux. A great value for the money.

Room Tip: I only saw four rooms upstairs, but I believe they are working to have some first level rooms too.
