You would think that having paid in advance in full 6 months before, the property might have recorded that we were due to arrive - not so. We turned up full of excited anticipation to discover that the young 'guardian' of the property knew nothing of our booking , the owners/managers (?) were all away and the room (our room)...

It was a privilege to have an opportunity to stay in this historic castle, passionately restored by its owners. We stayed in the square tower with lovely antiques and a four poster bed. It was spotless. The views of the countryside are spectacular and at night, the view of the stars, warm glow of candles, and sounds of nature made...

Just a few miles outside of Bordeaux, this magical property takes you back in time. The castle offers two suites, a large square tower suite and a smaller suite in an old round tower. I stayed two nights in the large square tower which featured a huge room with four poster bed, a second bedroom with a double and twin,...

If you have up to a week to explore points east and south of Bordeaux, then you ought to try at least one night at Chateau de Langoiran. More than 500 years old, the room is very spacious. You need to be fit (and brave) to climb up the 40 steps from the foot of the tower to your room....
