OK, but not quite what we expected
A wine-making chateau near the historic Medieval town of Blaye - it all sounds very wonderful and the chateau's website does nothing to dispel the idea, but frankly we found Blaye to be a rather miserable place with very few places to eat or drink (the only bar we found was packing up at 8.30) and the chateau is just a not-very exciting building with a rather scruffy garden, a 40 minute hike from the town. The accommodation itself was excellent and the owners were very friendly, and the price most reasonable, and we enjoyed tasting their wine - but overall we wish we'd visited this place for an hour or two, and then driven an hour east to stay in beautiful St Emilion instead.
