They get a two star rating based on the pool area and the live two piece band. As far as the room is concerned the bathroom ceiling has black mold on the ceiling tile . You can see that they must have had water damage from the above floor bathroom. The bathroom light had two light bulbs out leaving only one light bulb working making it even more dingy . Only had one night stand .

Booked this hotel based on recommendations for wedding weekend for my nephew. The group rate was not cheap at $300 a night. We stayed two nights and had three rooms booked for the wedding. The hotel is extremely dated. The beds were covered in plastic, which made it very hard to sleep. The rooms were missing towels and when I asked them for some they were all shredded on the edges. I think it’s time to update this resort. I was very upset because of the price we paid for our accommodations.

The beach is beautiful. It has a boardwalk (no stores) refreshment stand, and bath house. It costs $7 a person to get on the beach daily. No parking fees but you have to park across the street on the residential roads. The hotel we stayed at was Mike Doolan's. It was ok and inexpensive but our room (basement) was yucky.

If I could give this hotel a zero rating, it’s would still be too high. This was the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. It is overpriced, has inferior accommodations and I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Ripped towels, no shower bath mat, no room for toiletries, water in sink did not drain properly, water stain on ceiling, poor lighting, exposed wiring, no night stand - instead, a table that slides under a couch, I could go on and on. For the rate they charge, the conditions are atrocious to say the least. They advertise that the rooms were renovated, which is absolutely untrue, except for the shower, which was the only good thing I can say about the room. The entrance and lobby were beautifully decorated for the holidays and gave the impression of a high rated hotel; it was just the opposite. In fact, I think we would’ve preferred to have slept in the lobby! Handicapped accommodations were not as expected. After requesting early check in, we had to walk all the way around the building and up several steps to get to our room because we couldn’t cut through the dining room due to the Sunday brunch taking place. Extremely disappointed and never again!

Scam #2- After receiving word that the Ebb Tide at Daytona Beach Shores had inflated the price of the condo rental for 2/25, we secured another property at Shores Club Room 707. 2 days later after the credit card deposit cleared, the owner contacted us that she was going to increase the price by $2000, as she didn't realize that the dates were after the race (2/17-2/24).
We cancelled and are seeking a stay on the Gulf side of the state. My advise- stay away from Daytona area in February, unless you don't mind the scams.

We were looking for an inexpensive quick getaway. And yes the room was inexpensive. The location was very convenient. We even ate and the meal was surprising very good.

However, this hotel is extremely dated. The rooms were musty. There was no hot water in the shower. The beds felt like you were sleeping on cement. The hotel is in desperate need of a make over.

We had gone to the beach for the day- when we returned there were some very drunk people in the pool. They were very loud and screaming profanities.

We ended up leaving a day early. We just couldn’t sleep in the room another night. We will not be returning.

If you want a laugh, check into Doolans, Spring Lake NJ. The lobby is the most gaudy you will EVER see with dark musty rugs, a winding SCARY staircase and a staff that looks like they work for the Tower of Terror in Disneyworld! Dangerous, dirty, and the staff are so uninterested in you that you have to laugh.

With most other options not yet opened for the season, the need for last minute reservations for several families forced us to turn to Doolan's. While I was making the reservation, the woman on the phone informed me there would be no refunds once she charged my card in a tone that immediately made me regret the decision to stay there.

We arrived well after 10pm to check in, saving us from having to see the outside of the place in the daylight. The long awning leading to the main entrance was somewhat charming, but the smell of age and regret hit you as soon as you enter the lobby. The only inhabitants were at the bar - two old drunk gentlemen and a bartender who looked like he wanted to be working elsewhere a decade ago only added to the depressing atmosphere. There was some signs of life on the other side of the banquet doors, where a party was going on - music blaring just feet away from the front desk. Check in was quick and painless, with the gentleman behind the desk handing me an ancient hole punched hard plastic key card as he informed me I would need to walk around the entire length of the building and climb up the stairs to get to my room. The walk was quick enough and the climb to the second floor allowed us to take in a view of the pool and area where wedding pictures were taken. Even in the dark you could tell both the pool and area surrounding it had seen better days, I had a hard time seeing any recent married couple wanting their wedding photos to be taken there.

Our room was the first immediately to the right of the staircase, a location that would allow me to hear everyone else climbing the stairs who had chosen poorly on their place to stay that night. The room itself wasn't horrific at first glance, just terribly dated, but it was the smell of stale air that was most noticeable. It wasn't long before I was receiving texts from families staying in other rooms of their initial thoughts of the accommodations. One text included a picture of a towel with vivid rust stains. The one I sent in return was of the pre-printed envelope informing me that if I wished to leave something for the housekeeper, to bring the envelope to the front desk. I knew I would not be touching that envelope, not just because of how the room was kept, but for the stains and whatever bodily fluid had dried on it. I would post the picture here, but I hope my description is sufficient. We also heard from another family who asked to change rooms after finding bags of clothes in drawers and used toiletries left behind in the bathroom.

The bathroom was thankfully clean enough to use, while our undersized and terribly thin towels might as well have been made of sandpaper but at least free of stains. There was hot water and packaged soap and shampoo and while it struggled to do so, the toilet eventually flushed. The beds were comfortable enough to get a decent night's sleep in, but we were up early and out the door before the sun was fully up. As I walked out, I took note of the pool, already opened for the season and considering how dirty it was, I wondered if it had been covered at all during the winter. I'm not sure how many more seasons it has left in it - the sides were bowing in, collapsing under the weight of too many years of use and lack of proper care. We left the parking lot and did not look back.

Doolan's may have at one time been a nice destination. I'm sure they've hosted some wonderful weddings back in the day, and I know from the drunk people I heard that night, they can still throw a party. But the days anyone would knowingly want to spend the night there are long gone and the management has clearly decided they will let this place die a slow death but make whatever money off of it they still can - after all, they got my $130. The money it would take to properly renovate this place is far greater than the cost to tear it down and replace it with a property more suitable to the area that now surrounds it.

One word comes to mind...awful. The whole establishment had an odd odor. We stayed in a "deluxe" room, but nothing was deluxe about it. For a few specific examples...there were cigarette burns on our bedspread, rust stains on the towels, bed was extremely uncomfortable, the tv was 40 years old (management confirmed that) and the shower curtain was full of mildew. When we spoke to management, we were brushed off. Also note, there is no iron, hairdryer, or toiletries in the room--if you dare to stay, bring everything. If traveling to the Spring Lake area, find a nice B&B instead.

Doolans is celebrating its 50th anniversary and it should commemorate the occasion by buying new mattresses, replacing the carpeting and updating the bathrooms. The beds were the worst of any place I have ever stayed, and as a result, I slept on the floor, which was no great shakes either. The carpets were stained, and god knows from what. For those that opt to stay in a bed (in a two queen room), the A/C is about three inches from the bed, so bring those heavy PJ's in the summer.

The brochure says the hotel is 7 blocks from the beach, but its a loooooong 7 blocks. The best bet is to get up early and drive to find a good parking spot. The free continental breakfast was cereal, flat bagels, muffins and juice, all and all, not that exciting.

The one redeeming quality was the pool, which was a big hit with the kids. It closes at 5:00, which was a bummer on hot days.

All in all, stay here if you have to, but try to avoid it unless you have a back of steel.
