Situated 200 metres away from the Temple of Concordia, a true masterpiece of Doric art dating back to the 5th century B.C., Villa Athena is a place which transcends time and space, where nature art and beauty have been merging together for over 2,500 years in the presence of the gods. Villa Athena is the only 5-star hotel situated within the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples, which UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site, with an exclusive direct entrance. A magnificent residence of the end of the 18th century, the villa has 27 between suites and rooms, many of which have view on the Temples or on the garden with ancient olives trees. The garden of the villa blends into the landscape of almond and olive trees that surrounds the magnificent millennia-old temples; from here the Temples of Concordia and Juno can be seen on the Terrazza degli Dei, the restaurant of the hotel. The terrace is open every day, both for lunch and dinner. To complete the beauty of the villa, the hotel has a panoramic outdoor swimming pool, a charming garden bar Federico II, a refined SPA with a wellness area and two cabins for massages and a fitness center. The hotel has free WI-FI and free parking for all the guests.

We stayed one night at this most memorable and magical hotel located inside the Valley of the Temples. We opted for the suite and it did not disappoint. The veranda overlooking the Temple of Concordia was a once in a lifetime opportunity that we will never forget. The restaurant on property was very good and the grounds absolutely stunning! I highly recommend this hotel and suite to anyone planning a tour of Sicily and wishing for a wow factor experience.

We had a junior suite which was very spacious. The interior of the hotel can be described as British Colonial style or of a different era. It is not modern but certainly charming. The location however, could not be beaten. Our room overlooked the Doric temple and the hotel has its own private entrance into the grounds. Loved the gardens . Drinks were silly expensive like Euro 20 for a Campari Spritz when in other 5* establishments in Sicily they were more like Euro 8-10. We did enjoy Villa Athena but mainly for its location and the gardens. Breakfast was plentiful and service was very good.

Response from Roberto Principato, Direttore generale at Hotel Villa Athena
Responded 17 Feb 2023
Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your experience at our hotel. For me and my team, the greatest reward is seeing our guests feel the way you felt here at the Villa Athena. We always appreciate our guest’s feedback since it will undoubtedly help us improve the quality of our service. However, we would like to specify that the price of our cocktails are fully justifiable as they are accompanied by a basket of high quality finger foods as well as alcoholic products of the highest range. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Villa Athena and even then we will do everything we can to make your stay a memorable one. Yours sincerely, Roberto Principato General Manager

such a special property in the middle of the Valley of the Temples. Rooms were spectacular and the service was also fantastic. The poolside views are second to none. We also really loved the restaurant. Really great service all the way around! Definitely plan to stay here again!

We stayed 2 nights here, The Valley of the temples is worth it, and the old part of Agrigento is fun and lively. We almost changed our plans upon seeing the size of the room. SMALL! Temple view with a terrace. Firstly, the location IS amazing. Perhaps worth the price. Direct access to The Valley is also worth it. The facility is a little tired and underwhelming. The staff was lovely and very helpful, admiringly so. The restaurant was a disappointment. We didn’t finish our dinners. (One young waiter was abrupt, while another was a delight). One of our most expensive dinners in Sicily. Our room had a remodeled bathe with obscure glass partition, but no real privacy, but who has secrets anymore? Room small enough to barely fit the luggage rack. Getting through Agrigento in the dark was no fun, but that’s besides the point.

We, wife and me, stayed there during an off season round trip through Sicily. Villa Athena is quite a good place to stay. Nice rooms, motivated people a good restaurant and a dream of a garden with an exquisite view to the nearby valley of temples. The hotel offers a private access to the temples which allows a visit without need of a car. Car can stay on the free hotel parking during the visit. Restaurant is first class with very reasonable prices. So is breakfast which was not included in our arrangement, however it is worth to try. Rooms have good standard, the only thing (we stayed in room 204) is the hand shower head which I could not manage to work. The rain shower, however, did work but spit in almost all directions except straight down. This was a bit disappointing for such a luxury place. Overall I still found it a very decent place.

Location is superb. It is located right by the ruins and guests staying at the hotel have private entrance to the ruins. You also have a spectacular view of the temples from practically everywhere at the hotel. We even had a great view of the historic site from the rooms’ bathrooms. The food at the restaurant is mediocre though but the view there is also unparalleled.

This is a wonderful 27 room boutique hotel in Agrigento. Impeccable location adjacent to the Valley of the Temples archeological park with wonderful view of the Temple of Concordia. The hotel has a private entrance to the park which is one of the main reasons to visit Agrigento. The hotel is not walking distance to the center of town if that is important to you, but a 10 minute cab ride will get you there. We found staff accommodating and friendly. The food in the restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner was excellent. The rooms are adequate for short stays. The hotel is a former 18th Century Noble residence. The only hesitancy with stating this is a 5 star facility is the size eliminates features of a larger property that one expects in a 5 star hotel. Other than that, it is 5 star all the way and I recommend it without hesitation.

First - the location and property are amazing. The views are unmatched. You can read all the other review for more on the property, the easy access to the Temples, and the food. However, it was what the staff did for us for which we will be eternally grateful! They literally save the remainder of our trip in Italy. Not only did they procure a very very early morning ride to the train station, they helped us after my girlfriend left her phone in the taxi. While we were on the train they contacted the driver, Tony (who, after dropping us off, presumably went back to sleep - I know I would have!), asked him to please look in his taxi for the phone, and if found to please return it to the Villa. He found it and returned it to the Villa staff who then worked with us on how to get it back to us while we traveled via planes, trains, and automobiles up to Rome, Florence, and Venice. They found a delivery service that could send up to our Venice hotel so that it would be waiting for us when we arrived! My girlfriend was terribly stressed because she had to have her phone to conduct important business while we traveled. Without it our trip would have had a dark cloud following us. We cannot thank them enough for going above and beyond! P.S. We are tracking down Tony so we can show him our appreciation as well.

Location, location, location. This hotel is amazingly situated with a great view of the Valley of the Temples. The onsite restaurant and bar have outdoor seating with similar views. If you’re not staying here, it’s worth having a drink at the bar. The rooms are nice, but not five star quality. The staff are very nice and the breakfast is very good, though in a room without a view. It’s priced as a splurge. If you’re going to visit Agrigento, it’s worth a night.

We wish we had stayed longer. This is a beautiful villa, well restored with a peaceful relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful to relax around the pool. The breakfast was outstanding and the staff courteous. If we had been able to extend our stay we would have booked a larger room with a terrace…our agency booked a smaller room which was beautifully decorated but too small for our taste. Recommended hotel as sophisticated and elegant.
