Five of us stayed here during a hiking trip this Summer. The location is beautiful - a grassy field surrounded by incredible cliffs. We had 5-person room (the hut sleeps a total of just 19!) which was spotless and quite comfortable. We choose the al a carte option for dinner and the food was, overall, the best of our trip....

Rifugio Scotoni can only be reached on foot or skis. Or I suppose by snowmobile. Perhaps helicopter. It lies deep in the Dolomites close to Cortina and Arraba, on a spur off the Sella Ronda circuit and connected to over 1000 kms of managed ski trails. In good weather it can get very busy over the two or three hours...

We hike down from Lagazuoi to Rif Scotoni. Arriving at the end of a downhill trek it was a marvelous site with nice rooms and good beer. There were 2 couples so we shared two bunks (4 beds). room was rather warm at night but otherwise accommodations were great. We removed our shoes as asked and they were placed onto...

Unless you have at least 2 hours to spare don't bother with eating here; the food is not any better than some of the many other rifugi around. It's egregious fame must certainly be due to its location along a beautiful piste. It took 15-20 minutes to get our order taken and another 65 minutes to deliver the food! Perhaps...

Firstly the warning - during high season, get there early for lunch (12'ish) or late (after 2), otherwise you're likely to be frustrated waiting for a table and then waiting for the food (we were!). Having said that - the food is excellent and they specialise in some great meat and steak dishes. The aroma of meat cooking is fantastic!...

We really liked this hotel. Our 4-bunk room had its own bathroom (not expected this in a basic refuge). Lovely location. Great food. Friendly service. And free wifi! They even served diet coke (which is pretty rare in the mountains). Would highly recommend to anyone doing the AV1. It requires the diversion around rather than taking the very hard higher...

Can't comment on the accommodation, although I would love to stay here, but the food is fantastic and in a beautiful location. Great steaks and mixed grills (vegetarians beware!), excellent and friendly service (on a day that was super-busy). All tucked away along the beautiful lagazuoi piste, which you must do if you are in the area. Then a ski...

First came here in 2007, and 2011 was just as good. This time round we all had the mixed grill so can't comment on other dishes although the aromas wafting around from the gnocchi and Kaiserschmarrn were mouth watering. The grill is quite wonderful; it is simply marinated meats and sausage, 'griddled' if that's the word, over wood and coals...
