Stayed here for 2 night as part of a self guided bike ride. Loved the friendly staff even though limited English,we found a way to communicate. Breakfast was delicious with many choices such as cheese, eggs, pastries, meats and bread. Would return.

Unique experience in this very old and beautiful building. Our room had high ceilings and a balcony with an incredible view of the countryside. Perfect place to sit all afternoon with a bottle of wine and a platter of bread, meat and cheese. Beautiful, large, old armoire and a huge bathroom with shower and bathtub. Left terrace door open all...

Very good hotel just inside Montepulciano. Highly recommended if you're visiting Montepulciano or the Val D'Orcia with a car, you won't find other hotels with the same position. Rooms are clean and comfortable, hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.

We did a short notice couple's weekend and loved this place. It was clean, modern bathroom, great view, nice breakfast, friendly staff, parking available, and a great location within walking of the best part of Montepulciano. It was a recommendation to us, and we would recommend it to others!

This is supposedly the oldest hotel in Montepulciano and is located in the lower part of town near the main gate. Rooms are clean with a comfortable bed and good AC. As others have noted there are a lot of steps - one flight to get to reception and two more to get to our room. BUT once we got...

The hotel was great! After our room was on the last floor, and the long walk was worth it because we had a balcony with excellent view.the location is perfect and there's a private parking so people who come with car can park in front of the hotel.

We decided to use this as a stop over on our round trip to Greece. We were not disappointed. The room was spotlessly clean, and breakfast was absolutely superb, all home prepared. Very good preserves - hopefully next time there will be 'Crab Apple' jelly, from their trees in the garden. The house is set in it's own grounds, beautifully...

I was sad we were only able to stay one day at this lovely and interesting hotel. I wish we had planned differently. The hotel is in the center of Montepulciano. It was difficult to find even with a GPS because the street sign indicated (to us at least) that cars weren't permitted. After circling the city several times, we...

We spent a week there and are very happy with our choice. Stunning building and interiors (furniture from XIX century), clean with a balcony overlooking Tuscan hills. Friendly staff. Air condition working well. One and only problem was breakfast. Always the same and not very tasty.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Behind the Medicean column there is the Hotel Il Marzocco, the oldest in town. It was built in 1500 as a farm of the nearby convent. In 1860 it became a hotel and since the early 1900s it has been run by the same family. The hotel looks like a large house where the atmosphere of the old times is still kept. Its bedrooms open on wide lounges that, like the reading room and the sitting room, are furnished with genuine XIX century pieces. Some bedrooms have balconies or terraces with a view on the valleys, other ones have their windows over the Renaissance houses of the old town. The hotel has had important guests like actors, writers, politicians, all of whom are fond of the great view from its terraces. A free parking area is available, as well as comfortable relaxing spaces and a wide dining room where breakfast is served from a rich buffet with home-made bread and cakes, jams and pies. Among the roses of the garden, the Canada creeper climbs until the terraces and creates a pergola up to the roof, at first green in summer, than all red in September and yellow during the autumn. Red geraniums at the windows, together with the old lace curtains, add to the building a perfectly romantic touch. Wi-Fi Connection. We accept pets. Free Indoor garage for motorbikes and bicycles. ... more   less
