The Hotel Reale in Orvieto was once the home of an Italian count, and it looks very much like a palace, inside and out. A recent two-night stay here was most pleasant, thanks to the royal ambience and the friendly and helpful staff. Of course the bathrooms have been updated and air conditioning added, so you can take a trip...

We stopped over on our way to Amalfi coast and found this the ideal place to tour the old city. Nice personnel who will show you the room of former King Umberto 1 which is inside the hotel preserved as a suite.

Over the years of visiting the fantastic city of Orvieto, this was the fourth hotel we had stayed overnight. Certainly the most unique experience of the lot. And the least expensive. This is not five star luxury, so don’t get your expectations out of kilter. It is very well located, as all Orvieto rooms on the “top of the rock"...

If you do not have a car (parking in Orvieto is a nightmare, and this hotel does not have private parking), and you are not in search of the trendy, seriously consider staying at the Grand Hotel Reale. It is, as the charming proprietress observed, "not so much a hotel as a palazzo." It is the ancient residence of a...

A truly dreadful hotel. We made a last minute booking on booking.com to meet up with friends of ours in Orvieto. We wanted to be central and as many hotels were full because of the annual festival we landed up with Hotel Reale which showed availability of one room only for euros 150. At this price we were looking forward...

The hotel is old, and historical, true. But the man behind the desk, who with his coke-bottle glasses and wizened skin is also old and historical, is really mean and unfriendly. I was there with two very well-behaved kids, and he showed such a lack of kindness and warmth that we left and went to stay somewhere else just purely...

Yes, we recommend avoiding this hotel. The Grand Realm is, however, grand in a few respects . It has a grand marble staircase. It has a grand location, right in the middle of Old Orvieto. It has grand ceilings. Sadly, it also has a grand cheek to be asking 90 euros for a double room in a hotel with: a...

If you like old fashioned hotels with huge stairs, want to feel like Fred Astaire or rather RiffRaff from Rocky Horror Picture Show? Choose this hotel 😊 Land lords are great and very friendly, lady is only able to speak Italian but with many gestures and body language all went well. The house is so old fashioned, you have to...

A beautiful building inside and out. Fabulous ceilings in the bedrooms and magnificent staircase. Has been a grand place in its heyday. The size of the rooms is great and the facilities although dated are all in place. The staff are pleasant and helpful. It is like something from an Agatha Christie novel and very quaint on a large scale....

I stayed 9 days. It is a lovely old palace with an amazing grand staircase. The rooms vary, depending upon the size of your party or if they've been updated. The staff could not be more friends and accommodating. It helps to speak a little Italian. This is the Italy I remember, grand and traditional.
