We had a memorable stay in Sulmona, an elegant and atmospheric town in Abruzzo. The hotel proprietor Gianluca went out of his way to impart the warm hospitality of the Abruzzese. He moved his own car to help with parking, rang restaurants to secure bookings and designed a driving route through some extraordinarily picturesque villages and forest. The hotel was very comfortable, modestly priced and superbly positioned beside the statue of Ovid. We wouldn’t hesitate to visit this dramatic but understated region of Italy again and we recommend Hotel Rojan.

We chose Hotel Rojan because it was family run. And what a family! Led by Angela and Gianluca this hotel team is incredible. Not only are the rooms exceptionally clean and well furnished; the breakfast delicious and the location perfect but this is a family who understand and deliver customer service 'from the heart'. We were required to have Molecular COVID tests before we could return to Canada and Angela went above and beyond to find a laboratory who could perform these. The family suggested excellent restaurants where we thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. We also send our thanks to Nonna who looked after us as we enjoyed her wonderful breakfasts. Sulmona is exactly the type of town that we like to visit in Italy. We have been to Italy multiple times - have visited the famous cities and sights - and now when we go we stay in one spot, make day trips and enjoy the local sites and history. We had a delightful 6 night stay and will always fondly remember our gracious reception at Hotel Rojan.

My only hesitation in giving this hotel 5 stars was that it truly deserves 6 stars. This small boutique style family run hotel in the city of Sulmona, about 1 1/2-2 hrs east of Rome , is a hidden gem. We were checked in by GianLucca, who spoke impeccable English and could not be more helpful. We went to visit the city of cSulmona as it is my brides great grandfather birthplace. Traditional remains very strong in her blood. GianLucca went out of his way for us at every turn for us, making our dinner reservations at a beautiful little restaurant in the middle of town and recommending the best confetti store. Sulmona is known for its confetti, and for good reason. He told her he will check the City’s records after we left to see what he could find out about her great-grandfather. Tell me where else you can find hospitality like that anywhere? The hotel is immaculate, cozy, classy, comfortable and the rooms spacious. You can immediately see that the owners pride themselves on paying attention to the little details and making the experience for their guests a top priority. Breakfast was delicious in a small private room off of the lobby. While GianLucca’s mother did not speak English she was warm, gracious and made great cappuccino. The beautiful gold emblem/ monogram HR is throughout the hotel, from the pearl and emerald colored marbled floors to the towels, pillows, and linens. The hotel is very reasonably priced and just the right balance between classy and comfortable. It was also nice that they have room safes and refrigerators in the guest rooms. Sulmona is as authentic of an Italian city surrounded by beautiful mountains as it gets. The food was delicious and the people friendly. If you visit Sulmona, which you should, this hotel is the place to stay.

Hotel Rohan is a lovely boutique hotel in the centre of Sulmona. The rooms are comfortable, nicely decorated and had been carefully cleaned to take care of Covid. But what makes it special is the warm welcome from Angela and the care she takes to make sure you make the most of your stay not just at the hotel but also to explore the region optimally. She speaks excellent English. She crafted custom touring itineraries for us each day so we got to go to places that are not mentioned in the guide books and which were lovely. And of course recommended restaurants in the town. All her recommendations were outstanding. Her directions are clear. She’s always happy to help. Breakfast was served in our room and the croissants and home made jams were great. I would definitely strongly recommend staying here and hope to return.

It was hard to believe all of the positive reviews of the Hotel Rojan. However, now that we have stayed there, I can say that they are true and correct! This hotel is a gem in the heart of a remarkable historic area. Our room and bathroom were spacious and clean, with the fabulous nearby bell tower visible right outside our window. Breakfast was delicious. And, as so many people have noted, the service was incredible. Gianluca, Angela, and their Mom are so warm, friendly, and helpful, and they do whatever they can do to enhance your visit and to help make your entire vacation more wonderful and pleasant. Gianluca made recommendations for sites to see as we drove to Sulmona, and we were grateful for his recommendations. He and Angela also made suggestions for a scenic route as we left Sulmona, and we appreciated those suggestions also. We enjoyed being so close to many historic sites, even though we did not have time to experience too many of them during a short visit.
