I had booked this place as a bit of luxury. We have stayed in much cheaper safari lodges which were much more luxurious! We arrived early afternoon and were met by a woman who took our details etc but did not offer us either a seat or a drink. She briefly showed us around and informed us we were the...

This is the fourth time we have stayed here and it still amazes me. If your looking for 5* luxury then this is not the place for you. If your looking for peace, stunning location and amazing staff then this is definitely the place for you. We had a nice stay. However, if compared to our other numerous travel experiences, especially in South Africa, it is absolutely NOT value for money. Simple food, glass missing in windows, leak stains on the ceiling, and many more things like that. It is more of a three-star lodge. Otherwise, the staff were very friendly. Would not stay there again.

Be aware: If you´re looking for amenities like free wifi in each room or tv or an excellent barkeepe and dico beats then it is the wrong place. But if you´re looking for silence and recreation between the game drives at the Plettenberg game reserve you will be glad there. The staff is very very friendly and tries to manage...

My wife and I stayed here on our recent visit to South Africa and we loved this place. It was heaven and we happened to be the only guests that night and we were treated like royalty by the staff. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection by Philip the head chef. Thanks to Regina, Linda and all the...

We asked for the double bedroom with en suite bathrooms as we were hosting my sister from the USA, and we wanted us all to have privacy. We selected the park and Baroness Lodge to give her an African experience with a taste of luxury, not too far from CT. The park is stuffed with animals (she likened it to...

My friend and I stayed here for a night and were given a choice of rooms. We chose a lovely room with 2 beds of which one was a 4 poster with a claw foot bath and an amazing fireplace. Our fire was lit for us and we were served a fabulous 3 course dinner and breakfast the next morning...

My Husband and I got married at the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve a week ago and our guests and us all stayed at The Baroness for the weekend. What a weekend it was!!! The Baroness is beautiful, a hidden Gem in the Garden Route. The lodge is authentic and decorated with old Colonial/African flair. If your looking for The Ritz...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our beautiful Plett Accommodation is a historic and charming colonial-style Safari Lodge that was built in early 1800 by Baron Joachim von Plettenberg, an early South African pioneer and conservationist, who used the original, smaller Lodge as his base to explore the then untamed African landscapes. Built from local stone, the Safari Lodge has lost little of its original 'out of Africa' feel and has spectacular views across rolling lawns where zebra and antelope roam freely, to the indigenous forests and majestic Tsitsikamma mountains in the distance. ... more   less
