Our favorite stay on our South Downs hike, charmingly decorated, bright and spotlessly clean. Loved sleeping in our cozy bedroom. Sue and Millie were excellent hosts, made us feel most welcomed from reception to send off. Sue went the extra mile in every aspect as our host. Would love to return and take a little more time to explore the...

This was our 3rd stop en route to Eastbourne. The Malthouse offers clean and comfy rooms in a very old house, you have to watch your head as there are many low beams and doorways. Sue offers a packed lunch service which was really good and both our sandwiches were delicious and freshly made. Breakfast is served in The Moonlight...

Stayed one night as part of Southdowns walk. Stayed in Wisteria room which was beautifully appointed. Breakfast was across the road in the Moonlight tea rooms. Breakfast was very high quality. Packed lunches were readily available.

What a fantastic place to stay, amazing. Very friendly greeting upon arrival. Great rooms, very high standard. We arrived quite late that afternoon, so did not get much time to chill out in the rooms. Steve and Sue sorted us guys out with packed lunches for the following days walking. Great breakfast experience, eating in a place across the road....

My wife & I stayed here overnight when we walked the South Downs Way from Petersfield to Amberley. We had a twin room which was very comfortable & well decorated. Everything was provided; towels, soap, shampoo, bath robes, etc. The room had a tv and tea & coffee making facilities. The owners will forward your luggage onto your next stop...

I spent one night during my south down walk at The Malthouse. The room was clean, had all the amenities and very comfortable for a much needed nights sleep. The breakfast was perfect, just what i needed. I would recommend staying at The Malthouse. The only point of note is, take the bridleway off SDW to Washington and avoid the...

We recently walked the entire South Downs Way in 8 days. Our b&b itinerary was sorted out for us by an excellent tour operator, South Downs Discovery. Night 3 was a stay in Cocking. The Malthouse didn't disappoint. Gorgeous characterful house on the main road through Cocking. The traffic didn't cause a problem. Beautiful bedroom with very comfortable bed, and...

What's a man to do ... you arrive later than expected and are within 30 minutes of a dinner booking one has made and are confronted with a most welcoming pot of tea provided by the very friendly Sue and the offer of a portion of simnal cake. Well it has to be a no-brainer .... take a deep breath,...

Myself and a colleague stayed for one night after being turned away at another nearby bed and breakfast because they wouldn't accept cash. Their loss our gain. I had the best nights sleep I have ever had in a guest house. Extremely comfortable and such lovely welcoming hosts, Great choice for breakfast and the building is amazing (Mind your head)....

We stayed one night at The Malthouse, whilst walking the South Downs Way. It was a real find! Room (Peony) was very spacious and well appointed, spotlessly clean, and full of character, and the bed very comfortable. I was concerned that it might be noisy with the traffic on the main road through Cocking but I didn't notice it at...
