This inn is beautifully placed in the North Pennines, and is only a few miles from Hadrian's Wall, Vindolanda, The Roman Army Museum etc. It is a quaint, old world inn, set in nice gardens with a stream running by. It is quiet, and it is well served by excellent staff who go the extra mile to help. The bar... More

My wife and I came here on a three night Groupon deal. We know that some voucher deals work, some don't. This one aced it in every department. No short cuts, no 'dumbing down'. Wonderful. Our stay was on the cusp of the previous manager Phil leaving and new manager Diane taking over and we had the privilege of meeting... More

We have just had a two nights stay at this lovely country pub, which is situated on the Whitfield Estate on the A686, which cuts across from Durham to Northumbria and is a very scenic route. If the weather is with you, the countryside views are amazing. The Elks Head is a pub with 10 en-suite rooms; five being in... More

We stayed 3 nights b/b with dinner on first night using Groupon offer. Requested easy access room which meant going outside and walking round on decking. Room was clean and acceptable. Shower/toilet were ok but room had small mouldy black marks in a couple of places. The evening meal was good and suited our dietary necessities so we had the... More

Recently spent 2 nights at the Elks Head with Groupon. The hotel is beautiful & the staff were very friendly & helpful - especially Liz, the mum of the present manager, & Diane, who is going to be the new manageress in a few weeks. The room was very clean & comfortable & the food was excellent. We really enjoyed... More

Found this county hotel on the Internet when planning our touring holiday in Northumberland. it is situated on the main A686 and is quite an isolated village so we were surprised how popular it was. Greeted by a very pleasant lady, who informed us she had only taken over as manager a few days before our arrival. We were offered... More

Stayed here after a groupon deal for £89 for two nights b&b with drink on arrival. New landlady had just taken over so there was a transition period that mainly went unnoticed. Room was no frills but clean, food was actually quite pretentious charging £6 for 2 spring rolls but still nice. New menu started day after we left so... More

My wife and I spent three nights in this delightful inn in Whitfield. We had an excellent meal on the Sunday evening. Our room was quite spacious, very quiet and was very clean. Breakfast was served in the restaurant area and was top class. We had great value for our money and would recommend this place to all!

We stayed in this hotel to celebrate our Granddaughter’s 21st. Birthday. We were allocated a Double Room with shower situated on the First Floor in the Main Building. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, with the bathroom fitted with a shower. As seasoned travellers we would not go quite as far as stating that the room was... More
