Les Sables d'Olonne was a great place to stay with such a great choice of restaurants....lovely beach with both a harbour and port. The hotel was perfectly situated, the parking secure but you need to book....we did not realise but were fortunate that a space was available. Very quirky interior which put a smile on your face every time you walked through the hotel. We did not use the spa or indeed the breakfast facilities as we had superb weather and walked out to the local market for a croissant and coffee in the sunshine. Everything was very close to the hotel, including bike hire which was well worth at least a days hire.....the area is well set up for cyclists...even amateurs!

I went to Les Sables D'Olonne on a whim really as I was really planning to go to Biarritz but it ended up being too far. The Arc En Ciel is a little bit bohemium, slightly quirky and different. You notice this when you go into the reception and on each of the landings. Neon signs, black tiling and a dog barking at you when you walk in! However the room I stayed in was more conventional and standard and didn't really reflect the the quirkiness of the hotel. I'm not complaining though, it was a nice hotel.

You basically got out of the reception, turned left and walked down the street and you were on the beach. I could (if I kind of half hung out of room) see the sea from my window. But be warned, there is no air conditioning! The day I went was boiling (30 degrees) but then there was a weather change and it turned quite cold at night, so that was okay, but I can imagine if it stayed that hot for a few days I could imagine the room would be boiling!

It was a good sized room, with your own shower and little cupboard. I think the bathroom was a little dated but fine. You get free wifi. And I know that there was/is a spa and they offer a few different spa packages etc but I didn't really do any of that or have breakfast. So I can't comment on other facilities. The staff were friendly and there is a lift!

If I was going back to Les Sables D'Olonne I would probably stay there again.

I read the reviews before booking, so knew this was a bit different. Wish I'd gone to the Best Western. We'd previously stayed at the Atlantic, but wanted somewhere a bit closer to the main town and the sandy part of the beach. The location is very good, but that's all I liked about it.

We asked for a quiet room, after reading the reviews. We got room 40, facing the back, and looking out onto the deck where the hot tub was. It's called Romantique, and is charged as a superior room. The walls are thin, and we could hear everything from next door, including the loo flushing, and the cistern filling. Not good in the night. The maids seem to work in twos or threes and make a lot of noise in the mornings, shouting and chattering, as well as banging the vacuum around the skirting outside the room. really annoying when you are on holiday, and don't HAVE to get up early.

The hot tub: right outside our only window. This was between the loo and the bathroom, in a so-called loggia area. The loo did not have a wash basin, so every time you went between the loo and the bathroom, where you had to go to wash your hands, which was very inconvenient and also unhygienic, people sunbathing on the deck, or in the jacuzzi, could see you. It meant we kept the blind down much of the time, so the room was dark. The blind was one that you had to crank up and down, so there was no way to open it a little, like a venetian.

The loo was so small, your knees touched the wall when sitting down. I hated using it. The door lock was broken, so moving a little to get toilet paper meant that the door would ping open. Then you had to go through the loggia to the bathroom to wash your hands. I know I've said that before, but I really hated it. It also had a green light bulb in it, which was just plain nasty, as was the floor. I hope to put pictures on here, from my phone, so have a look at those.

The room was painted in horrible bright and gaudy colours. If it had at least been in light colours, having to keep the blind closed might not have been so unpleasant. The loggia was entirely roofed in, so you could not sit in it to get the sun or fresh air. It was absolutely pointless. The floor levels were all different, with steps up and down to go from the different areas, which was quite dangerous at night.

The corridors are dark, and the reception are is just bizarre, especially at night. All the doors are locked at 9pm, and there appears to be no staff on the premises.

The one good point is that there is a large fridge available to clients, where you can keep your white wine and water. However, to access it, you either need to go through the dining room, or come in the back way. Since the back door is locked after 9pm, and the door from reception to the dining room is also locked at 9pm, you need to make sure you have retrieved anything you might want from the fridge before this time.

I will never ever stay in this hotel again.

In the area around Olonne sur Mer in France we couldn't find a suitable campsite so after calling in at several and being turned away we gave up and went to an amazing hotel in Les Sables d' Olonne called Hotel Arc en Ciel. Decor was quite a delightful and funky mix of Modern/Artistic throughout and they had an incredible Belle Epoch dining room with ornate plasterwork everwhere and classical ceiling and wall murals. Smart friendly lady behind reception was attentive and helpful. Double room was quite orange but comfortable and clean. Free parking in securely gated parking area just around the corner. Ate an enormous buffet breakfast the next day for 8 euros each and had to lie down for a bit before we could waddle to the beach which was a few hundred metres away. Bliss.

Stayed here for a week at the start of August (4 adults and two teenagers) and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The location, the staff and the atmosphere in the hotel are top class. The hot tub on the roof is a very special experience.

Be prepared for a surprise when you come to this hotel! It is a 1930s style holiday place not far from the beach with very small rooms and period décor, furniture and ambience. However, a very friendly staff, an excellent breakfast and comfortable beds made up for any deficiencies!

We, four adults, spent one night here en route to staying with friends in the Dordogne. The location is excellent, being about 100 yards from the main beach and a number of restaurants and bars. There is secure parking at a reasonable cost about 75 yards from the hotel which is a bonus if you are travelling with a loaded car.

The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. This is a quirky hotel with multi-coloured walls and slightly strange rooms - the loo in our room was tiny and separate from the shower room and wash hand basin. However, we enjoyed our stay and are happy to recommend this hotel.

The town of Sables D'Olonne is well worth a visit for the long and sandy beach and the fishing port. There are many restaurants and bars, both on the beach and adjacent to the port. We did find prices for drinks and meals were expensive, probably to be expected in a holiday town/resort. There is an excellent covered food market in the town which is well worth a visit, providing fresh, high quality foodstuffs.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would visit Les Sables d'Olonne again.

Lovely hotel although decor was a bit unexpected. Loved the constellation over our bed, the room was nice and the balcony the perfect size to rest. We so enjoyed soaking in the large jacuzzi and would have booked a massage if we had realized they were available ahead of arrival.
Very nice Staff!

I selected this hotel based on other reviews. It was close to the train station that I was arriving in and near the beach. It is quite different than I would normally look for, but in the right place.

My room was on the ground floor, the only room on this floor, and 4 feet from the front desk. Don't select this room!! It was right next to a busy street and noise was a problem at night. Also, there is NO A/C in this hotel!!! I did not realize this when I booked it. I wanted the window open for cool air but noise prohibited this.

If you are American, you will not like the breakfast so go find something else. It seems the French live on high octane coffee and bread or croissants. I need protein for breakfast.

Based on the layout of this hotel, it would never be allowed in the USA. It was a total fire trap. But, based on the location it fits right in.

It is a clean and well maintained facility but the rooms, at least mine, was extremely small. It did serve the purpose and the bed was comfortable though. If you are bigger than me (5'9" 170lbs) you will not fit in the shower. Its tiny!! You can go potty, shower and shave without walking 2 steps in the small bathroom. Quite funny.

WiFi, forget it. I was 4 steps from the front desk. I was kicked off every few minutes. It was extremely frustrating and pointless. Don't bet on it working.

Enough on that. I would stay here again. It's location cannot be beat. One block and you are on the large beach. You are surrounded by stores and restaurants and have plenty of choices. This town was a pleasant surprise for sure.

Try It!!!
