We had booked our rooms in hotel Edelweiss for the final night of our 5-day walking holiday along the GR5. The hotel is situated just outside the centre of Samoëns, and offers very nice views over Samoëns and the mountains to the south of it. The hotel’s restaurant served us a very good meal. By the way: it has a nice balcony for lunches and outdoor dining. As we had to leave very early in the morning (06:45hrs) to catch our train, the owner made sure to set up a simple breakfast for us to have.

Located up the hillside gives you a fantastic scenic location but not so accessible on foot. We stayed here Feb half term 2019 and got a good deal (considering it was half term) on a family room. They offered us a deal on half board with a fixed menu. It's a family run hotel so to get the best out of it you need to be organised and let them know when you intend to eat in the restaurant. We ate there every night as it was convenient for us as a family; we were rewarded by some fabulous home cooked cuisine. Our kids aren't particularly fussy eaters so the menu was fine, if you have fussy kids you might want to check whats on before hand though. The reward was some of the best food I've eaten whilst away skiing, it was quite clearly made from very fresh ingredients, home cooked and very tasty. Breakfast was more of a continental style but again suited us very well with fresh pastries every morning, lovely coffee and hot chocolate with the usual fruit and cereal selections. The rooms were very clean and turned over every day, the whole place is very well kept and very comfortable. It's not your usual big hotel, tv games room sort of set up but as a family we enjoyed sitting by the fire each evening before our meal playing Dobble, Uno and Top Trumps ;-) It was very homely and lovely to spend time away from the screens with the family. Only a 2 star doesn't really do it justice, yes the facilities are basic but very well presented and wonderfully cosy. We decided to hire a car from Geneva rather than rely on ski busses which was the right choice. The nearest ski bus stop is a decent hike away at the bottom of a big hill, though the proprietors did offer lifts, this wasn't (as I understand) a guaranteed daily service. The best thing about having a car was not having to rely on busses, having the flexibilty of driving to less crowded gondolas a couple of miles away and being able to leave all the stinky ski gear in the car after a day on the slopes. Be aware that they are not there 24 hours, if you are going to arrive late (after 9:30 pm) you MUST let them know beforehand. I had read some reviews before our stay suggesting that people were not able to get in on arrival. This is stated on their website but don't get caught out. They did offer to have someone stay later for our arrival for a small fee to cover costs but we opted to change our flights anyhow rather than get there completely tired out with a young family. The proprietors offered to prepare a small meal for our arrival which was very kind. To conclude, I would definitely recommend the Edelweiss, we had a wonderful stay there and other guests seemed to also. They do speak a little English but we do our best to converse in French anyhow which helped a lot. Just be organised and let them know in advance what your plans are and you'll have a lovely stay in a hotel with a very cosy feeling and a wonderful view.

Spent a week here with my family at half-term and had a great time. It's a fifteen minute hike up the hill from the village but as a result of its elevated position it has a great view across the valley floor and of the mountains on the other side. The bedrooms were warm and the water was hot. We shared our room with one teddy bear. The reception / lounge area was cosy and the dining area homely with 249 teddies all over the place. We chose half-board and weren't disappointed. The breakfast was fine with cereals, meats / cheeses, croissants, cake, juice, tea and coffee etc. The evening meals were fantastic with home-made regional specialities. All in all a great place to stay. Downsides: 1. Don't bother going out after dinner; the walk up the hill's a nightmare after a couple of glasses of wine. 2. There are 249 teddies and not 247 as per website. 3. You may be sent to bed after 10pm if you're hanging around the reception / lounge area (unless you go out of course).

We booked one night here, and left before breakfast to head over the alps. Pricing was lower than other options, and i'd say the value is about right. It's a friendly, basic place to stay, in this friendly, basic village. The hotel is not an easy walk from town, well - easy directions, but uphill quite a walk. Driving and parking wasn't my favourite thing to spend time doing. Good wifi. It's very traditional (dated traditional, not authentic regional traditional), there are hundreds of teddy bears, everywhere, a gorgeous fireplace in the lobby.

Quick weekend trip to France for skiing near Samoen. Worked with me for an unexpected late arrival and room was clean, surprisingly large for three of us (two adults and one teen). Beautiful view of valley from room and we did half board. Breakfast was european style, bread, cheese, yogurt and meats. More than adequate. Nice dinner, fondue etc. Free parking but had to drive to ski tram/gondola (about 1 km away).

I stayed here for 1 night to squeeze in a cheeky days skiing ahead of a business meeting in Lausanne. Very comfortable stay, in a room with a truly fantastic view. Staff very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was just what I wanted before a days skiing.

My family & I have just returned from a 5 night stay here for a ski trip. we arrived earlier than expected at midday & our room was ready. We were keen to get out skiing & the owner & chef, Patrick very kindly drove us up to the Vercland ski lift so we could get to Samoens 1600 to our ski hire shop. On the way he gave us a quick tour & showed us where to catch the ski bus. This meant we had an extra afternoon's skiing which was brilliant! We had a family room for 4 with a double & a set of bunks. The room had a balcony with lovely view over the valley, and like the rest of the hotel was spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfy. We had dinner each evening In the restaurant & every meal we had was great - everything was home made; e.g. pate, & the most amazing Tartiflette ! It was 3 courses & The portions were just enough. Some evenings they offered a more child friendly version for my 2 young daughters. Our waiter, Felix was very friendly, attentive & obliging - serving us tea in the lounge after each meal. Our rooms were tidied each day. The towels could have been better quality, but I am being picky. The only slight down side is the location; it is a walk up/down the hill to get to the ski bus stop - but there is a short cut. And the homeliness of the hotel when you get there makes it worth it! Highly recommend this hotel.

My family stayed here on a skiing trip to Samoens. We found the hotel clean and pleasantly furnished. Staff were very accommodating and food was good. Would happily return. Only downside was the walk back up the hill from town.

I need to book a room for my parents, the manager kindly made an offer and gave a very nice room with very nice view. the room is spacious and tidy. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed, so my parents could not have lunch there and going to city center was a bit difficult for walking for them - as the hotel is in the hilly site and no other restaurants near by. My parents are quite old and having problems with the leg. But the manager and the staff were very helpful and kind.

I had 6 days booked at this hotel via booking.com. unfortunately my son was taken ill, had an emergency operation, and couldn't travel for six weeks. This occurred two weeks before stay. I rang to explain and the man could not have been less interested an put the phone down. I rang again, and he told me to 'go away English, rung booking.com' they tried to contact the hotel but they too eventually gave up. I didn't expect all of the money back (£600) but a compromise would have been fair..I'm sure they cold fill the room at this time of year with over two weeks to go. I have sent them numerous polite emails and have received nothing back. Have to say in many years of travel I have never experienced anything like it. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
