We stayed at the hotel in early March 22, and we are looking forward to returning. The refreshed gondola to the slopes was quick to access and rarely did we have to wait to get on. The food at the hotel was fantastic and wholesome. The staff were fantastic and extremely helpful given my poor ability at speaking French.
This restaurant serves the hotel mainly but we stayed at a chalet in Vercland and went here to eat. It is a lovely family run restaurant with a great selection of traditional raclette, tartiflette, fondue and steaks. All of the food was just delicious, served by a very friendly lady who spoke English. We liked it so much we went back another evening and worked our way through more dishes, all excellent. Four adults, four teenagers, everyone very happy.
Nice hotel although basic. Lovely family running it, can’t do enough to help you. I’m a bit of a foodie but the fondu was great and also some of the other meals. Almost adjacent to the (very) old bubble up to 1600 where you can hire all you need. Was there with my adult daughter and would return for a short ski break. Thank you to all the family!! Nick & Luci
Good location, close to the bubble ski-lift, nice small village rural character. For a 2 star hotel, we were pleasantly surprised by the overall quality. The staff are great, encouraged us to persevere with our French (instead of replying to us in English, which is sadly becoming the norm even in France). It's truly family run and we felt like welcome guests rather than 'clients', nice peaceful ambience. Bedroom was clean, very comfortable bed, nice view from the balcony towards Samoens (which is a 25 minute walk away) and mountains . Nice shower. The boot room was adequate and there is a small gym, games room and hot tub which are fine. The restaurant was really the centre of the Hotel, retaining many original 1970's features which we loved (please don't modernise it!). A lounge area would be nice but it's difficult to see how it could fit in. Breakfast was typical 'continental' style with home made croissants etc. Evening meals were a delight, great traditional Savoyarde dishes- lots of meat and cheese - and four courses always on offer. Also, although the dinner is a set menu, if you let the chef know in advance then he may offer an alternative if, for example, you aren't keen on fondue. The only downside of the holiday was that we mistakenly went during the French School's half term so the Grand Massif was incredibly busy, so do check this before you book.…
Always go to this place every year . It’s still the best fondue savoyarde in Samoens. You can definitely go with children as there is a lot of room and a really good kids menus .Staff is charming and efficient. A real gem
We booked this hotel for one night before a week in a chalet in Samoens The welcome was excellent as were all the staff during our stay . The room was in the main house and was warm and quiet We had dinner and breakfast and both were excellent and very good value. I would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the area
My husband and daughter have just returned from an incredible weeks stay in this hotel as guests of Crystal. They have both skied a lot and stayed at both chalets and hotels around Europe and this would rate as one of their favourites. Their over riding comment was that it is worth more the the 2* rating and it boasts a jacuzzi and sauna (extra charge). The room was basic but was good size, very warm and spotlessly clean. It was opposite a telecabine that opened up into the Samoens ski area. The food was fantastic and real care was taken in the vegetarian food that was prepared for my daughter. She did not eat pasta once all week (this is usually the vegetarian offer that she is given). The staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that they had a fabulous stay. The New Years Eve gala dinner was amazing and a real experience. The hotel is in a little village near Samoens and apart from the hotel and a bar there is little else near the hotel (so no shops selling skiwear or supermarket for snacks). Unfortunately for my daughter they were the only English people staying in the hotel, however, all the other guests in the hotel were friendly but there were no other young people for my daughter to hang out with in the evening. Both would return again and would recommend it.…
We stayed here last week for two nights as a group of 4, in two rooms. The rooms were fine if not massive, but both en suite and good value. The staff and owner were very friendly and the restaurant food absolutely fine and averagely priced for a ski resort (if not the biggest menu). Ample parking, and only 50 yards from the Vercland Gondola to access the full Grand Massif ski area. Only think to note is there was only one other restaurant open in Vercland Samoens whilst were there so a bit limited on choice! Booked via booking.com (sorry Tripadvisor) and our bill per head including breakfast and evening meals on both nights was 170eur, so 85 eur a night for bed breakfast and evening meal in an en suite room represent i think very good value. Would stay here again
We have just returned from a weeks ski holiday. We stayed at this hotel. It is a traditional French chalet in the mountains situated next to the ski lift which is very handy. The owners are friendly and helpful and serve traditional French food which is nice. Beware if u are a tea/coffee drinker as we were offered this at meal time and as we were half board we believed this was included. We were shocked at the end of our stay to be given a 95 euro bill for tea and coffee for the week! The rooms don't have tea/coffee facilities therefore you have no choice but to purchase it from the restaurant, this was never made clear that this was chargeable!. The rooms are basic but clean as it came &nd the shower is good. There is no area for sitting after dinner and felt that by 10pm they were waiting for you to go to bed so they could close up, we ended up going to our room by 10pm which was disappointing as we had met friends and there was no where to sit for a chat and a drink. The buses stop at 6pm to the village. The ski area is a thoroughfare to Flaine and at times the lift queues were around a hour long as it turns into a bottle neck of tourists and at times the runs were bombarded with skiers trying to get to the next village. We were very disappointed with the area therefore would not recommend it. I would imagine that a summer stay here would be beautiful but not for skiing. …
We have just returned after spending a week skiing from this hotel booked through Crystal. It is a budget hotel and some would say basic. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the owners are always on site and actually cook and serve the meals. The rooms are quite basic with simple furniture, table, chairs and wardrobe but funnily ours did not have any drawers just shelves in the wardrobe, the bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a good size with a good shower, well heated and plenty of hot water. There was also soap, shampoo and a hair dryer. All in all the cleanliness of the hotel was goo. Breakfast was a typical european affair with Juice, croissants, bread, yoghurt, cereal etc but no hot option. Evening meals were listed at breakfast these were a 4 course affair with a salad/ cheese option between main and dessert (apparently typically french)and if there was something that you did not like then the chef was more than happy to offer an alternative (not Quorn) as long as notice was given, and two of our nights was typical French cuisine, a fondue and a raclette (more cheese Grommit). A small word of warning- at the end of the meal you will be asked if you want tea or coffee and it wasn't until the end of the week when we got our bill that we realised we were being charged extra for this (around €6 a day). There is a hot tub/Jacuzzi which was very welcomed after a hard days skiing and most days I had it to myself. There is also a mini gym and a lounge/games room which was a bit small and down stairs away from the bar which didn't make for a very social area. So to summarise, the hotel is in a very good position for the local albeit old but quaint ski lift (about 1-2 min walk) and there was never a queue, unlike the Massif Express in the village, but for anything else, i.e. village, night life, restaurants, ski shops etc it is a trek into the actual village, around 30 mins walk, you can get the ski bus but these stop running around 6pm and a taxi back is about €10 The hotel did not have a communal/lounge area as such and could benefit from some sofas/soft chairs to sit on as we found ourselves sitting at the dinner table talking to friends which meant the hotel staff were waiting around to set up for breakfast and we felt that we had better go to the bed as not to hold them up which meant the social aspect just stopped at around 10pm, in fact we spent a lot of time reading and sitting in the bedroom as it was more comfortable and relaxing. Overall the place is very clean, the food was good and the ski area lift is close but the social and apres ski side is not here. P.s. Handy tip- Check the local school holidays (including Holland & Belgium) as the week we were there was very very busy on the slopes with loads and loads of children in ski schools and lengthy queues at some lifts…
