I visited with the family in the February half term and had a very enjoyable stay. The apartment was spacious, clean and modern. Location was great - central to the town and towards the start of the Yellow Ski Bus OLIP so there was always space to get on. Staff were friendly and parking was very exceptionally good in the underground car park. Highly recommended!

We have enjoyed our stay in Layssia. The building is quite new and the appartment was clean and well equiped. They have a nice large spa with pool ans sauna’s. The bread service is convenient and the staff friendly. Only small disadvantage is that it is a bit too far too walk to the ski lift. But the car can be parked in front of the building so it was easy to grab the car to go to the lift.

I think our expectations for this apartment were higher (paying 3400 euros for 4 for a week we expected more) it is fine if you think back to student days and have no expectations for luxury. The towels are tiny, there is limited kitchen equipment, no drawers or dressing table/mirror in the bedroom, and you can't control the heating. There was no hot water before 7am but was fine the rest of the day. We reported this along with two missing light bulbs and broken shower on arrival that werent fixed, but perhaps over new year there were no maintenance staff. TV has local french channels only and the WiFI is terrible - only two devices per apartment but was too slow to be of any use. The accomodation is centrally located in the village and the village itself and surrounding area is lovely, but I would avoid in peak weeks as it is just too busy - we couldnt get on the first bus to the ski lift (not till 8.37) as it was too full and once you arrived then the queues for the grandmassif telecabin were 20-30minutes. To get to ski school on time we had no choice but to walk the 1km to ski lift at 8am to get nearer the front of the que for its opening about 8.45. (now you know why we wanted hot water for showers before 7am!) Restaurants were fully booked so we had to self cater much of the time which involved a 10 minute walk to small shop in town or carrefour was 20minute walk away. There are no taxis - a car is advisable for exploring and for getting to the ski lift in peak times. As other reviewers have commented, both the pool and jacuzzi are too cold - which may explain why pool was empty most of the time, despite the accomodation being fully booked. Staff on reception were pleasant and helpful and the accomodation is new and centrally located. Beds are also very comfy. But it is basic, we were disappointed that our holiday wasnt as luxurious or stress free as hoped. Hot water on demand, and the ability to control the heating in your own apartment are surely not too big an ask?

Beautiful apartment, lovely facilities and wonderful staff...but in common with all the other apartments and hotels in the village, let down by the bus service. Samoens has recently invested a lot in its lift system, new pistes and more accommodation. Unfortunately, the bus system has become a joke. The frequency has reduced from previous years and the timetable appears to be a fantasy. The blue and yellow lines have merged, resulting in journeys to the lift that can take three times as long. The bus drivers don’t even bother to show which route they are running, nor do they seem to care (even when a bus has not turned up). Any resort which has its only lift station outside the village must provide frequent buses that run to a timetable. The lift passes are expensive without wasting 30minutes for a bus that does not turn up.

Great apartment, fab service. We've never stayed in a village before, always in a ski resort, ski in ski out. I was pleasantly surprised. The ski bus stopped right next to the apartments, it was free which I wasn't expecting and took only 3 mins to get to the Grand Massive ski lift in Samoens. The apartment was warm, comfortable, had every facility we needed. The beds were comfortable which is unheard of in many of the ski apartments we have stayed in before. The spa facilities, pool. jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna were great. Just one complaint, the jacuzzi and pool were too cold. We did complain to the reception, but they were adamant it was set at 32 degrees and this was absolutely fine. Having a hot tub myself and knowing we have it set at 39 we did not agree, in fact we had goose bumps whilst sat in it. However, this was our only complaint, we had no others, it was fantastic!

Obviously Samoens is not a ski in/ ski out resort, but access to the Grand Massif ski area (the bowl at Flaine is great!) was really easy with the Grand Massif Express cable car, and regular free ski buses around the town. The apartment-hotel is very central to town (which is very charming), and just a few steps away from the ski bus. The reception staff are friendly, but don’t volunteer information without prompting, so do your research! Our 2 bed Apartment was small but comfortable (better beds than most ski chalets!). Kitchen was well stocked with saucepans etc, including hand-blender, steamer cooker, coffee machine, kettle, dishwasher etc. One thing to note, the only oven was a microwave/ convection oven (all in one), which threw me as I was cooking a turkey crown with roast potatoes etc for Christmas Day. Saved by the steamer which we used to part-cook the turkey, and a juggle between potatoes and meat cooking in the oven. Got away with it but it was a bit unnerving on our arrival! Pool area small but clean and pleasant. Busy on days when the skiing was restricted due to weather. Check out by 10am, or 11am if you pay extra. Lobby downstairs nice, but locked after 8pm so no table pong or snooker in the evenings. Things like fondu sets, pancake sets etc available from reception if you ask. They give you a day or 2’s notice that you have to have emptied rubbish bins and cleaned the kitchen area if you don’t want to pay 100€ fine. Not a big problem, but we didn’t know in advance.

This was our second visit to the great little resort of Samoens. The first visit was in a private Chalet (see my other reviews for more detail) the second being here. Flew in to Geneva and arranged a private transfer with Go Massif, who were very well organised and courteous on our trip down to resort (approx. 1 hour). There was 8 of us in our party which we arranged as 2 parties of 4 in 2 x 2 bedroom apartments. We e-mailed ahead to ask if we could have the apartments next door to each other with views of the mountains and large balconies if possible, this was duly arranged, so for us we were very pleased. Chalet de Layssia is very well situated, pretty much being smack bang in the middle of town, the bus stopped just outside of the complex, with a few minutes ride down to the Grand Massif Gondola station (white bus line). Our apartment was very well appointed and had everything you could really need for a weeks skiing or even for a summer holiday. Kitchen was well appointed with the usual (in-built connection oven/Fridge/Kettle/Dishwasher/Toaster and so on, but as other reviews have stated, there is nowhere to prepare the food apart from using the dining table or the electric hob when turned off! but we still managed to cook just fine when not eating out. Bedrooms were both fine and well appointed, we all slept well as the beds & lining were very comfortable, no real noise from other apartments or the road. We used the swimming pool/steam & jacuzzi along with the gym. Again all very well appointed but, none of it seems to open in the morning (I think after 10) so if you wanted to loosen up before skiing, you were out of luck. Pools and Jacuzzi were cold to lukewarm at best, but we braved it. I do feel this could have been improved upon in terms of timings and temperature! I would also like to add that the boot locker was very good and kept our boots super warm. Service wise, we didn't use it much to hardly at all, reception is open if you need them, but the reception area shuts at 8 and the area is locked, so you are then resorting to using a side door under key code. This didn't worry us, but may be an issue for others. The only small issue was check out, pretty frantic as everybody has to check out by 10 and everybody has to have an apartment inspection and inventory check, which by all accounts was slightly on the military side (ex serviceman myself!) as long as you follow the rules and leave it as you pretty much found it, I don't see an issue, again this may bother some, especially if you have had a long weeks skiing and are ready to get home. All in all I would recommend CGH and I would return, as we thought the place was well equipped, spacious as Ski accommodation goes and very close to everything without the noise. The Ski area of the Grand Massif is fantastic, with something for everybody (although the slope grading was a little out in places) and great conditions. I wouldn't be tempted to go early season, but mid Jan to the end of March seems to be the best for this area. I'd also like to mention Coco, our Ski instructor from Zigzag. Absolutely fantastic.

I had booked an appointment at the spa for a fascial and a pedicure 2.30 pm and arrived ten minutes before that. The lady in the reception told me that the Beauty therapist was running late due to car problem. After one hour waiting she was still not here! I talked to the lady in the reception and she said they had to cancelled my appointments! I said that I at least want one of my treatments to be done. Why doesn't the Beauty therapist take a taxi I asked? The answer was: she doesn't want to take a taxi! Wow! That's French service. Instead of caring for the customer the employee that should be at her work for more than an hour ago can choose if she want to take a taxi or not! Better to cancel an appointment for a tourist they never see again? But words get around. Absolutely astonishing! Worst ever! If your car is broke you just get to work another way. After 1 hour and five minutes the beauty therapist finally arrive and I got my fascial but no Pedicyre. I had booked 75 minutes fascial. Mine lasted 50 minutes! Afterwards they said that I do not have to pay 75 euros for the 75 minutes only 50 euros! I shouldn't have paid anything after having to wait 1 hour and five minutes and just have a fascial and not the pedicyre that I booked. I am so disappointed! So unprofessional! They gave me a winter kit as a present! But that does compensate their lousy customer service.

Unfortunately our experience has been tainted by poor customer service. Firstly don't pay for a mid week clean, they apparently swept the floor. We complained and got clean towels but bed linen wasn't changed bins weren't emptied and generally the place was a mess. The reception is shut from 12-2 so you can't use the pool table, it also shuts at 8pm again making this apparently social area redundant. Table and lounge chairs in the apartment are very uncomfortable so you have to make use of the comfy chairs in reception. Book restaurants in advance, samoens is very small so there is no availability, receptionists were unwilling to help find us a place, so we lived on jackets and beans on toast, even the takeaway pizza place ran out of dough😂the most annoying part was booking a late check out so we could take advantage of the pool facilities before our departure. When we arrived in our costumes we were told it opens on a Saturday at 3pm. Too extremely disappointed children and half dressed woman at reception was met with a very disgruntled manager who said he was doing his job excellently and not listening to my complaint. He refused to give us our late check out fee back, unless we vacated immediately, which was hard to do as we were dressed for swimming. They could have handled it all so differently, with a simple apology and a refund. So sad 😭 we had wanted to return and even buy a place here, but sadly won't be now.

Dear lou0s2, Our residence welcomed you during a week and the staff did its best to offer you a great stay with us. At your arrival all the services had been explained and we stayed avaiblable for you during the all week. A misunderstanding can be possible but your stay in Les Châlets de Layssia can not be judged on the fact that we only open the swimming pool on Saturdays at 3.00pm. We need to clean the area from the top tp the bottom in order to offer to your residents the best service possible every week. The opening time of the swimming pool are written on each of our brochures and had been said at your arrival. Moreover, for more information about your residence it would have been more plaisant and easier for a better understanding to listen to the manager until the end of its speech. Concerning your displeasure about the reservation for restaurants : it is common sense to figure that many restaurants are going to be full on vacation weeks in ski station. The staff did its best to find a solution for you to eat without cooking during the all week. To summaries your stay in Samoens with such a comment do not represent the investment given by the staff to answer to all your resquests during the week with us.
