Hotel Gunther is a "garni" hotel, meaning that our hotel is without a restaurant - and, in that sense, more resembling a bed and breakfast establishment or pension. Of course at the same time, we offer all the extras one would normally expect from a 3-star hotel. You're in the center of the Romantic Middle Rhine if you stay at Gunther in Boppard. Boppard is within 30 minutes driving time from Bingen, Rudesheim (+ ferry crossing time), Bacharach, Oberwesel, St. Goar, Koblence and the Moselle River. In addition to taking the car, one can also easily reach the same cities by cruise boat, train or bicycle. You'll find an abundance of things to do and see in Boppard, for example hiking: hikers can used the "Rheinsteig" and "Rheinburgenweg" trails, passing through forests and meadows high along the Valley's edge. You'll see castles galore in the Valley of the Loreley and see why UNESCO has proclaimed the Upper Middle Rhine Valley to be a World Heritage Park. Boppard is within 60 - 90 minutes from three airports: Frankfurt Hahn (Known for the cheap flights via RyanAir.) Koln (Cologne)/Bonn and Frankfurt International, located in Frankfurt am Main.

It was autumn and an excellent time of the year for seeing the Rhine and Mosel area without the crowds. After deciding to look for a hotel in Boppard, we chose the Hotel Gunther Garni after reading the reviews from previous visitors. Our room was located on the 3rd floor and had a small balcony that overlooked the Rhine river and the beautiful scenery beyond it. Boats travel all day and what feels like all night. They make somewhat of a noise, but it did not bother us as it added to the charm of having a room facing the river. The room itself was larger than we expected it to be, was clean and the beds were very comfortable. When we booked the room we requested a bathtub and that wish was also fulfilled! Every morning we went to the hotel's breakfast room to start the day off. We were greeted by a cheery hostess and found a most pleasing breakfast buffet with so many choices of food to eat. It was very tasty! In front of the hotel, there is a possibility to park at designated parking spaces along the street. During the day these spaces cost money but between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. the same spaces were free to park at. The location of the hotel could not be any better. To the front is the Rhine River. The town center, where there are shops and restaurants, is within walking distance. The town has historical areas, including Roman structures. You can take boat trips to many destinations. The docks are within walking distance of the hotel. A trip to the Loreley is charming and whilst traveling down the Rhine to that location, many castle ruins can be observed on the way to it. I would stay at this hotel again if I travel to Boppard again!

We stayed here 10 years ago and loved it. The good things haven't changed and they've kept up with the times with good wifi. We had a balcony room overlooking the Rhine which was both very comfortable with modern amenities. Breakfast was something we remembered from our previous trip and it was still the same - a view of the Rhine, coffee and juice served at your table with a friendly server, and a good selection of quality food. They have a on site laundry service for a reasonable price. Plenty of restaurants with easy walking distance. There's no AC but it wasn't needed in June. The only possible negative was the sound of trains across the river. They're frequent and sound like rain. We noticed them even witht the windows closed but didn't mind the sound. If you might then get a room away from the river. Excellent value for what you get.

If the system allowed it, this hotel would have 10 stars! It is family owned and run - and it really shows! On arrival, the welcome could not have been warmer! My large room on the 3rd floor (lift) was light and airy, and had a comfortable sitting corner. The balcony had wonderful views, upstream and downstream, and there was always something of interest going on. There was plenty of storage space, and the bathroom was fine. I am not a fan of ‘state of the art’ bathrooms - they tend to be all show and not very practical! (Perhaps the provision of a small fridge and/or a kettle would be the cherry on the cake!) There is always someone on Reception, for help or advice - or just a chat! Good breakfast buffet, served in a very restful room. No restaurant - it is a ‘hotel garni’ - but there are plenty of good (and one or two not so good!) restaurants in the pleasant town, and a small and rather eccentric café next door, with excellent cakes. The ‘customer service’ extended to booking a Covid test for me in a village up in the Hunsrück (nothing in Boppard), and then arranging for the result to be faxed to the neighbouring hotel - and going round to fetch it! Hotel Günther Garni - you have got it just right. Keep up the good work! eliensis

This hotel is just lovely. The rooms are comfortable, beds are great for sleeping, and the location is great. We really enjoyed the breakfast, local wine that was available at the desk and we especially appreciated the staff. They were very kind and helpful when we left a bag on the train and had very helpful information about different castles we could go see. I highly recommend this hotel and can say it’s definitely worth the splurge for the balcony.

We stayed here 6 nights on our Rhine Odessey, and enjoyed our stay immensely in this family run hotel.. We had a front balcony room which gave us great views of the Rhine, which unfortunately meant also some 24 hour noise from the impressive amount of boat and train traffic, gladly the double glazing kept disturbance low. Breakfast was good continental fare and as the hotel is B&B we were able to sample many of the local restaurants for lunch and dinner. Disappointed a little by the rather cramped ensuite bathroom, but impressed by the size of the room, and the sitting area. Very good value.

The Guenther is a classic small, independent European hotel. The staff is all welcoming and helpful, the room overlooking the Rhein, with a balcony, is just what a visitor to Boppard wants, the breakfast buffet is good, and the rate is a good value. Would I return? Definitely!

This family run hotel has mostly German guests visiting the region. We had a room at the front with a small balcony overlooking the river, so in spite of the chilly weather, we could enjoy the constant boat traffic on the Rhine and watching the goats on the steep hillside on the other side of the river. Our room was quite spacious with comfortable bed, shower over the bath, plenty of hot water and a lovely breakfast in a charming dining room. The owners went out of their way to be helpful. Easy access to river cruises, ferry across the river (2euros), train to neighbouring villages such as Bacharach, Braubach. Just a warning re Boppard itself: many of the restaurants and shops do not accept credit cards, cash only ( which was a bit of a surprise!) and the railway station has about 25+ steps to/from the platforms, no escalator or elevator, so if you have largish luggage, it is a pain.

We stayed here for one night, before selecting a different hotel, as my wife wasn’t satisfied. But, it’s a fine hotel, especially given the fact that we paid less than 100€. The location and balcony views are great, and the front desk staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was not great, but it was ok. The hotel falls short on the little things. The rooms need updating, but there are other things like thin, old towels, tiny little soaps, little showers, etc that hurt my rating. All in all, I would stay here again, but not my first choice. We moved to the hotel Lilie for the same price, but nicer accommodations.

This is a small family run hotel which we have stayed at twice. The owners and staff are welcoming and very helpful - perhaps the people that say they are not should think about how they approach the hotel personnel - I find that you generally reap what you sow!! It’s true that there are no tea or coffee making facilities and no fridge, nor facial tissues. However at £55 per couple per night including a typical German breakfast of very good quality what do they expect?? I’ve stayed in much more expensive hotels which are no better and offer none of these facilities and charge €10 each for breakfast. You have to pay for parking on the river promenade opposite the hotel but if you use the machine correctly you pay €4 for 24 hours so if you buy the ticket at 6pm it lasts until 6 pm the next day. Most hotels charge a lot more than that for parking in the continent The hotel is very clean and comfortable and fabulous value for money so don’t let moaning Minnies put you off!!

This is just the kind of family run hotel in a charming town to make a home base for several days. The hotel provided a regional rail pass promotion allowing free train travel up and down the Rhine, Mosel and Lahn river valleys by train. Lots to explore via train on easy day trips. River cruise boats at hotel's front door. Good hiking in the hills above Boppard and biking along the rivers.
