Stayed at Hotel Stockalperhof for 4 nights as part of the Classic Glacier Express Tour (Great Rail Journeys).

The hotel is generally unmanned after you receive your key, with the exception of the breakfast service. Rooms across 5 floors with even numbered rooms benefiting from a small balcony that looks on to the mountains.

Coffee (pod) machine provided but only 2 pods and after this you have to pay for your own (Coop is 100m away) so you end up eating and drinking out a lot of the time.

The bathroom suffers from the shower head being positioned too low to be of any use, with a hose that is too short in many rooms. This does need looked at by the management.

The hotel is very well positioned in Brig with a number of restaurants on the doorstep and only a 350m walk from the train station.

I personally would return without a second thought; it is the shower that stops this being a '5' review.

We had a very pleasant stay at this charming hotel. The location in the hearth of the town is simply perfect, and the rooms are equipped with all you need. The balcony of our room offered an amazing panoramic view to the surrounded mountains. Also the staff was very friendly and gave us lots of informations for things to do at this destination. We will definitely come back to this hotel.

Having flown to Geneva and travelled by train to Brig, we eventually found this quite charming small German-speaking hotel for overnight stay, which provided us with a meal in our room after a roasting day. Not much by way of luxuries in the room, although kettle would allow making of tea or coffee. No shower cap provided. Room had balcony looking out over main road to mountains behind. Comfy bed and bedding with adequate breakfast in the morning. Honesty fridge was available for out of hours drinks. Might wish to sample other hotels if we ever come through Brig again, which is unlikely.

We are currently staying at this hotel with a Great Rail tour. This is the 4th hotel on this tour and I’m sorry to say it’s by far the worst!
Very very limited breakfast, unless you like cornflakes and ham salad with bread. At all the other hotels en route we had bacon, eggs, choice of continental.
We have a large number of vegetarians in our group and the vegetarian option was macaroni cheese and the sauce had bacon in it!!!
Flies…… I ordered a drink at dinner and within minutes there was a fly in it followed seconds later by another!! A small dish of mustard on the table had flies in it too.
At breakfast it was like Faulty Towers. One poor waitress trying to keep items topped up, clear tables, take tea/coffee orders and because our tour manager complained about choice, she was having to take egg orders. Egg only mind!!
You have really let us down Stockalperhof and we’ve still one more ghastly breakfast left.
Great Rail will be receiving lots of complaints from those on our tour. They certainly need to rethink using this hotel again!! Awful.

I hate reading bad reviews but on this occasion I have to tell it as it is I’m afraid.

Lots to like about this hotel - warm welcome, good room with quality bedding and great views. I echo previous comment about the shower head being too low, a bit strange and not great for tall husband! An easy walk (even with luggage) from the station and as well as the hotel's own restaurants (for which you get a discount as a resident) there are lots of choices to be had within a few minutes walk. Brig is a great place for visiting other parts of Switzerland but be sure to spend some time walking round the characterful streets, we'd failed to do that the last time we stayed there (some years ago in a different hotel) and it's well worth it.

Dear Hussingtree, Thank you for staying at Hotel Stockalperhof and leaving such a detailed review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay in our newly renovated boutique hotel in the historic town of Brig. As you say, there is much to see here in Brig, and it is a great base for touring. Thank you for mentioning the warm welcome you received. We are truly passionate about what we do, therefore, it is always heartwarming to have this recognised by our guests. It is also great you found the room to be comfortable. Your feedback about the shower head has been noted. We hope you will come back to Brig soon and stay with us again. Every season there is something different to see here. Best wishes from Brig, Fabio #TeamStockalperhof

What a pleasant surprise. Best value for money stay I have ever encountered in Switzerland. Swiss is full of run down & over-priced bed and breakfasts/hotels. This place bucks the trend big time, it is modern and super clean. Wifi works a treat and breakfast was great. Also had dinner in the restaurant, a very nice modern Italian that attracted guests and locals alike. Lovely food and great wine suggestion. Staff is friendly and reception even offered to take my mail to the post office, not something you would normally expect from a mid-range hotel like this, thanks! I sense a lot of love has gone and is going into this establishment, well done, Switzerland needs more of this! Keep doing what you’re doing. Hard to see any other place in Brig being any better. I hope to be back and thanks again!

Expensive for what you got. Small room in roof with nice but little balcony. What annoyed me was that despite sending three messages welcoming me they didn’t send useful info like where to park in car park to be only 10m from hotel. Critical is you are disabled. Critically not 10 meters for disabled as there are steps so have a long walk around instead to the front of the hotel . The car park is close public car park but cobbled streets to front of steps to the back. Maybe send fewer messages and say park level 2 at far end and take lift to x etc… also when arrived with mobility scooter why put me in a room where lots of turns and narrow bits whilst next door is straight in and out? And available. Again so surprised that reception is only open 3pm to 4pm.. says short of staff so why not take a rest in afternoon? Switzerland has a different plug socket to rest of Europe.. surely an adapter for French/ German / Italian plus sockets might be useful for travellers ? A little cost to the hotel to lend out? Breakfast was very basic. No English breakfast tea but some greens teas? Maybe I am out of touch with today’s world?

Stayed 2 nights in our tour to Switzerland under EU Holidays. Hotel is near to supermarkets and the train station. Room given was on the top floor with a slanting ceiling. Not too bad as the room was larger than usual. However, the room utilities were badly maintained: (1) standing light near the sofa did not work (2) no AC while the given floor fan blows in one direction only (3) TV can only whisper when set to maximum volume 100% (4) toilet seat was broken loose and (5) ancient bathtub arranged in a terrible access angle to get in - safety hazards for short people. I believe there are better rooms in the lower floors with balconies. Poor choice of hotel unless you really like the Gelare ice cream shop beside this hotel.

The hotel is in the center of town, 5 minutes from the station and close to many restaurants. We arrived in the early evening and was nobody at reception but we had received a key code and everything was fine. The room was larger than expected, well furnished and equipped, and perfectly clean and quiet. Good wifi. Breakfast average. The hotel has good rates on its site and is thus a very recommendable option in town.
