I was in Brig for one night to run a mountain trail race, with an early start. The Ambassador was an excellent choice - close to the station and the hourly Post Buses up towards Simplon, but quiet and very good value. Breakfast started at 7am and was excellent - a very good continental buffet with excellent quality, and some hot items.

My "economy" single room came with a fan, but the bed was comfy and there was a high end coffee machine beside the bed. Since Brig's tap water is excellent and very cold even in summer, I didn't touch the free bottle of mineral water.

The check in was simply and quick, the front desk staff member was very friendly and the whole property was impeccably clean and well maintained. The internet was fats and reliable. It if has not been such a hot day, I would have given this property five stars.

Dear George Thank you for those wonderful words. We feel very flattered! We hope your race went well! If we would have known we would all have crossed fingres for you! We totally understand that you suffered due to the hot weather (as we all are) and not giving us 5 stars therefor is reasonable. But we have good news in case you would like to come back next year in summer: we plan on putting air con in all our rooms. We are looking forward to welcoming you again and send you our very best wishes. Your Hotel Ambassador Team

We booked the Attika suite and a basic room for our party. The basic room was comfortable enough although the bathroom and shower space was a bit on the small size. The suite was much more spacious and easily accommodated three members of the party including a wheelchair user. The bathroom in the suite has helpful adaptions for people of limited mobility, the only downside being that wheelchair access is via the rear of the hotel and basement. Both rooms were supplied with a coffee machine and a few pods.

Breakfast provided a limited but adequate range of items including cereals, meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, etc. to get the day off to a good start.

The in house restaurant provided a delicious evening meal in a relaxed environment - although not the cheapest option for dining in the town it was definitely worth the price in our opinion.

The location is just a couple of minutes walk from either the town centre or the train station with easy connections to places such as Visp and Zermatt making this an ideal base for exploring the area.

The best aspect of the hotel has to be the warm welcome that we received from every member of staff we encountered - something that I've found to be hit and miss in other locations.

Dear Journey19575682980 Thank you very much for this detailed feedback and for taking the time to write to us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you also enjoyed your dinner with us. What you say about the single room and wheelchair access is absolutely correct. Unfortunately, the rear entrance is our only option at the moment. A stair lift is unfortunately difficult to implement at all entrances. The bathrooms in the Economy single rooms are really small, but they are also inexpensive. We always say: It has everything it needs except a lot of space. And we think that's pretty accurate. We therefore always recommend booking a double room for single occupancy if possible. That gives you a bit more comfort. The words of praise about the staff make us extremely happy and give us a lot of courage and strength to continue to give our best every day. We would be delighted to welcome you back as guests on another occasion and in the meantime we send you only our very best wishes. Your Hotel Ambassador Team

I recently stayed for two nights at the Ambassador hotel in Brig. This hotel is a 5 minute walking distance from the Brig train station, which makes it convenient to explore the Oberwallis in different directions using public transport. I arrived mid-day and had to change into hiking clothes. After I gave the hotel an early heads-up about this they made the room available to me at noon already at no extra charge. More broadly the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and quite spacious. The bathroom was super clean. I should also mention that the hotel’s restaurant is one of the best places in the area. It has a French cuisine and the food is excellent. I ate dinner there twice and enjoyed it very much. If I visit Brig again I will definitely come back to the Ambassador.

The exterior of the hotel is attractive, but the interior is a bit dreary. It's a short walk from the train station. Our room itself was fine and had a coffee maker with coffee, tea, complimentary mineral water and a mini-bar. The bathroom was extremely cramped and outdated. The shower cabinet was uncomfortably narrow and short - my daughter (who is rather tall) had to crouch to fit. There was no space to put toiletries or toothbrushes, etc. at all around the tiny sink. The windows had ugly metal blinds, which to be fair did a great job of blocking the light. The beds were quite comfortable. The breakfast room was bright and cheery, and we did enjoy the breakfast buffet with its attractive table settings, fresh tropical fruit salads, and large tea/coffee cups.

The main issue we had was that the hotel restaurant was closed for refurbishment during our stay, and this was not communicated to us either beforehand or when we checked in. We went downstairs at dinner time surprised to find the entire first floor completely dark and deserted (despite signs stating reception was open until 9:00 pm), which was rather disconcerting. Very understandable that we were traveling during a slow period, but would have been professional to inform us of changes to restaurant and reception availability at check-in. We chose this hotel primarily due to the restaurant, and there were not many other eating options open within walking distance in Brig.

Dear Rebecca Thank you for your feedback. You are right we should have informed you that the restaurant is closed. We do apologize for that. Concerning the room and the bath room. Our standard rooms have small bathrooms that is true. But our deluxe rooms and Junior Suites have very beautiful and spaceous bathrooms. Best regards, Anne-Käthi Hitz

I was absolutely blown away by this beautiful kind little hotel. From the beginning, the staff was very welcoming and warm, the hotel room was tip top everything perfectly clean and lovely, appreciated slippers waiting for me and also bottles of mineral water. The views from the windows were amazing - snow covered mountains behind the historical town. Blinds on the windows so you can completely black out the room in the morning. What really got me was the kindness in the morning - I had an early appointment and was trying to get a taxi but they were all booked. So the lovely receptionist lady asked a gentleman working in the hotel to drive me and they refused to take money for it! This family-like treatment of guests is becoming rarer and rarer and it really warmed my heart. To finish my impression, I was late for a check out as my appointment took longer than planned, and again, no charge for this, no problem, just smile on face! This would not happen in England where you get charged a lot of money for just half an hour late check out. I really look forward to have the opportunity to come back to Brig and stay in this amazingly welcoming and beautiful hotel.

Kate

Dear Kate Thank you very much for your lovely feedback. It warms our hearts reading all these kind words and it gives us a lot of energy to do our very best every day again. But just to clarify so that people reading your great text do not have false expectations: The views from the windows are great if you are on a higher floor which unfortunately is not possible for everyone :( If you want to have a late check-out we prefer to know it in advance, but in this case there was nothing to be angry about as things can happen to everyone and we understood that it was not on purpose. And concerning the transfer to the station. If we have the staff, the equipment and the time and we can help out, we always gladly do so. But also that is unfortunately not always possible. But talking to us usually helps and we are always trying to figure out the best solution for everybody. Dear Kate, thank you again for taking the time to send us such a detailed feedback. It was wonderful having you staying with us and we are looking very much forward to welcoming you again some day. Meanwhile please receive our very best wishes. Your Hotel Ambassador Team

We spent several days at the Ambassadors Hotel as part of a Vacations by Rail tour of Switzerland. It was immaculately clean. The bed was comfortable. Like the two other Swiss hotels we stayed in, the hotel is not air conditioned, nor did our room benefit from cross ventilation. That was a problem for us, because when the weather is warm, you need to open the windows in order to breathe. The outside noise can be hard to adjust to. The breakfast buffet was ok, but not a bargain. The hot foods are served in a tiny back room, where the coffee machines also live. It’s crowded and a bottleneck. Apparently the Swiss prefer their bacon just barely cooked and their scrambled eggs runny. I do not. The staff was courteous, but the lady at the front desk seemed to think that issuing a spare key card was a big issue. I thought it a rather odd response to what should be a routine request.

We stayed for 4 nights with the great rail journeys tour, our room was very nice and well equipped with safe and fridge !!! but the shower room was very small, The owner was very nice and the two waiters we had were great lads the food was excellent and you felt well looked after. The issue was when we visited it was really warm and with no air con in either room or restaurant it was very uncomfortable. But if the weather was calm we went outside in the Marquees to eat which were set out lovely

Our room was one of the larger ones with a sitting area and a small balcony, very clean and modern. Bathroom was small but well lit. Perhaps a grab rail would be a good idea as step into shower is quite high.
We had meals included, starters and desserts were good but mains a little disappointing and service was a bit erratic. First evening the waitress started clearing side plates whilst we were still eating dessert leaning across us. Last evening service was very slow but collecting payment for drinks wasn’t!!!! Breakfast was of a good quality but at times replenishment of dishes was slow.
Location is great near to railway station, shops and old town and reception staff very helpful.

Dear jackiebP2434RS Than you for taking the time to give us a detailed feedback. Thank you also about the grab rail idea which we gladly consider. We are very sorry you found our main dishes of your group meal disappointing and that you did not seek a dialogue with us on site about the main courses in order to be able to tell us more precisely what exactly was disappointing. So we can only apologise in retrospect. We can understand that you found our service a bit erratic. We just have some new staff (just two, not all) and it sometimes takes a while until they fully get into the system. But thank you for letting us know and we will definitely discuss this at the next meeting. About a week ago, we just reorganised our breakfast buffet and made a few changes. So we are delighted that you like it. We hope your return journey was pleasant and please accept our best wishes. Your Hotel Ambassador Team

Travelling as part of a tour, we had a lovely room, well provided, spotless and very well serviced throughout our stay. The meals were super too and no cutting corners on quality, nicely prepared and presented. The dining room was comfortable with a nice ambiance. What was annoying was the constant pursuance of payment for drinks. They would not put it on the room so I guess somewhere down the line, they had got caught with a group not paying. There are ways of preventing this and we are not all the same but even so, we were all treated as untrustworthy.

Now the waiters were great and efficient but distant and did not engage at all. It was if they had seen it all before and simply could not be bothered to talk to yet another group of grey-haired old travellers that they would not see again. Simply no attempt at rapport with their clients. They worked hard but tended to disappear when the food service was finished so to get another drink after dinner was sometimes a bit of a chore.

This extraordinary attitude towards guests did not spoil our stay. What matters most was the room comfort and the food and here they delivered in spades. I hope they take this as constructive criticism because I do believe they have a great product here.

Dear TJA950 Thank you very much for taking the time to send us your feedback. We are so happy that you ovel all enjoyed your stay. Concerning the payment of the barbills. It is true that we had some issues with other groups. It was mainly because of the hole travelling you make and always staying in other hotels in other rooms with other room numbers the guests confused the room numbers and it got really messy then at check-out. With the system that everybody is paying its drink at the same evening it got more comfortable for us and we think also for the group. But we are very sorry if you felt that we were untrustful. That was never our intention. Concerning your feedback about the staff and the attitude towards guests. We have a lack of words to describe how very sorry we are about this. We thank you so much for your feedback. We are definitley going to discuss that in our team and we will improve. Thank you very much for letting us know in such a nice way and also thank you for your understanding that we are working hard. We hope you had a good journey back home and we send you best wishes! The single room is ok, bathroom a bit small but facilities excellent. Good coffee machine and complimentary water in room. Safe and fridge. Meals were certainly fine dining! Philip was extremely attentive to everyones need in the restaurant with style and panache! Sebastian was great fun and also very keen to provide an excellent service. Food exceptional! stayed 4 nights with a tour - Great Rail Journeys. Breakfast choice was amazing also it was not problem at all to facilitate gluten free and other dietary requirements! would recommend this hotel. Close to rail station so easy access to various trains and buses to explore numerous mountains and lakes
