I stayed at Vila Naiá during Carnaval. In a nutshell: idyllic… Corumbau is almost as I remember (had been there in 1998), still deserted, except for the two villages north and south of the property, which have grown hectically – and actually look awful. But the property is still far enough to ensure privacy, as most people do not walk that far. I had wonderful recollections of the beach itself, and relived all of them: it is one of the best beaches I know in Brazil, in terms of water, sand, sun, setting. Now, about Vila Naiá... The property is in a class of its own. They cater to very few guests at a time, so it is never crowded –whether by the pool, at the restaurant or at the beach (where the cabanas for the guests are set far enough from one another no-one will be within earshot). I stayed at one of the “casinhas”, and found it excellent. Large but not huge (but some would say huge, I am sure). An architectural wonder in its simplicity. Such craftsmanship – feels it was assembled as a puzzle… The little house, rustic from the outside, is a box of polished wood inside. Sparingly and nicely appointed, über comfortable oversized bed. The bathroom was good, not dazzling, but still not to be faulted. The seclusion ensures quiet nights of quiet stars – and *so many* stars! We found the food is also delectable – most of the meals were memorable, and even those that were not, were above-average, to say the least. Staff are very helpful and friendly, every time you need them – otherwise they will just hover around, almost invisibly. Vila Naiá does come at a price, but it is perfectly understandable – you have to experience it to understand the excellent value. If you need to get away from it all, it is *the* perfect destination. I, for one, am looking forward to staying there again.…
