Nestled in a picturesque jungle setting, One&Only Mandarina has garnered acclaim for its spacious rooms with stunning views, private pools, and luxurious amenities like the spa. While many guests praise the attentive service and the hotel's meticulous upkeep, some have encountered service and housekeeping issues, albeit often quickly addressed. Despite the high costs, reviewers warn of occasional inconsistencies in service and food quality that may affect the perceived value of their stay. Nonetheless, the secluded location remains a highlight for those seeking a tranquil retreat.

Our stay at O&O Mandarina exceeded every expectation we had (and they were pretty high). From our arrival, Marilu helped us with our check in and we were extremely pleased that she was able to get us a room upgrade for our honeymoon. They ended up upgrading us to a 2 bedroom Tortuga villa, which was the most impressive room we’ve ever seen in a hotel. The architecture of this hotel is impressive, it’s in a jungle in the middle of nowhere and somehow they made this ocean view paradise here.

Our hosts, Alejandro and Guillermo provided the best service we’ve ever received in any property, helping us with anything we needed 24/7 and somehow never missing a single request, completely impressed by this.

The food on the whole property, although not cheap, is worth every penny. The quality of ingredients is as good as it gets and they make sure to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy anything you order and any special requirements. Our favorite restaurant was Carao, where Aaron and Luis helped us and made us feel extremely welcomed. The food at this place is amazing, the only bad part was that my stomach was not big enough to fit the whole menu. One night we ordered a smash burger for room service and the last day we had dinner at Jetty, which has the best Asian BBQ ribs we’ve ever had.

We took a tour around the whole Mandarina complex, where Antonio showed us around the property and we fell in love with every corner of this place, the attention to detail even in the stable is insane, we’ve never seen anything like it.

Overall, a 10/10 experience, there is not enough space here to write about our whole experience, but if you can, don’t hesitate to visit the property, you won’t regret it.

Dear Joaquin L, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for choosing O&O Mandarina for your honeymoon. We are thrilled to hear that your stay exceeded your expectations and that Marilu was able to make your check-in experience special with a room upgrade to our stunning 2-bedroom Tortuga villa. Your kind words about the architecture and the unique jungle-ocean setting mean a lot to us. We are delighted that Alejandro and Guillermo provided exceptional service and ensured your needs were met around the clock. It’s fantastic to hear that our culinary offerings, especially at Carao with Aaron and Luis, made such a memorable impression on you. Your praise for the quality and variety of our food, from the smash burger in room service to the Asian BBQ ribs at Jetty, truly warms our hearts. Antonio will be pleased to know that his tour of the Mandarina complex left you captivated. Your appreciation for the attention to detail throughout the property, including the stables, is greatly valued. It was our pleasure to make your honeymoon unforgettable, and we hope to welcome you back to O&O Mandarina soon. Thank you once again for your kind words and recommendation. Warm regards, One&Only Mandarina

The resort had only been open for less than three weeks at the time that we arrived. To say that the grounds are beautiful would be an understatement. The place is a design and architectural masterpiece! They built the hotel in the middle of a jungle bordering an ocean and when you look at the property the treehouses are almost completely hidden. The hotel employees were extremely friendly and kind. There are two different styles of rooms, villas and treehouses and having stayed in both, the treehouses are definitely the way to go. They are luxuriously appointed with semi-outdoor bathtubs, huge double showers and your own small private wading pool (the size of a hot tub). The woods in the rooms are gorgeous and are a theme of the property. The beach is warm and beautiful. On the negative side, there is not a lot to do at this point other than sitting at the many spectacular infinity pools at the resort, sunbathing at the beach and kayaking and paddleboarding in a small protected area inside of the jetty. We wanted to go fishing and snorkeling and that requires chartering a boat and for four hours would have been almost $2,000. They have a short walk to an old tree that is $80 per person, which we did not do. I walked all around the grounds every day and the property is so large and with so many hills that I got pretty good exercise. The breakfasts are complementary and delicious, but lunch and dinner are VERY expensive and were nothing special. If you are looking for a beautiful resort to simply relax, this is the place. If you want activities, I would not recommend it. Finally, be very careful about the "ocean views." Due to the continued growth of the jungle, rooms that had a view can quickly become non-view rooms. We stayed in three different rooms over three days at all three areas of the property (due to a view that disappeared and then to a hot water problem) and without question the best room in the resort is room 127 which has an incredible view of the ocean.

As we live locally we were very keen to visit the property and to try the restaurants there.

Firstly, we were very impressed with the level of safety being taken by all the staff with regard to Covid19. Everyone was wearing masks even those who were not close to the guests. There were a number of hand sanitizer stations and our temperatures were checked upon arrival.

We had taken the time to arrive a little early for our dinner reservation and used the time to get a tour of the resort. We were taken by golf buggy and shown the 3 main areas of the property by Daniel a member of staff who seemed both happy to show us around and was knowledgeable about each of the areas we viewed, the resort information and the facilities.

The tree top villas are lovely. The one we were able to look at was modern, well decorated and had a nice indoor outdoor flow. It had magnificent views of the ocean. Not all of the villas have that view but the jungle setting is pretty special too. There is a conference room, spa, a very impressive childrens area complete with a tree house and lots of climbing areas. The beach club looked good although we didn't go in as it is reserved for guests staying at the resort.

We had cocktails at the Treetop bar. Stunning ocean views, big comfy chairs and a good cocktail menu made for a great start to our evening.

We then moved on the Alma Restaurant for dinner. The restaurant is very open plan in design with lots of beautiful wood finishes and views of the pools, the ocean and jungle. The food is Mediterranean and the menu has plenty of options. Our waiter Brandon was terrific. He knew the menu well, was able to make great recommendations with both the food and the wine and was also happy to accommodate vegetarian requests. His recommendation of the freshly made flatbread with different cheeses hit the spot as did the mussels and the fresh snapper which was the catch of the day. Unfortunately the Wagyu steak was a bit grisly and far from being the best we've had. For the price the quality was disappointing. Everything else we had was tasty, well presented and lived up to our expectations. Ernesto, the team leader checked on us a couple of times and was both friendly and professional.

This is a high end resort and the meal and wine prices reflect that. We will definitely be returning and are looking forward to trying out other items on the menu as well as the other restaurant on the property, Carao.

Absolutely amazing resort. The location is like nothing else we've experienced to date. Our room (Villa 309) was impeccably appointed with premium materials, finishes and interesting details throughout. The food at all three in-resort restaurants was world class. The service we received from literally every employee was above reproach. Everyone spoke perfect English and was very attentive to our needs. The beach was beautiful, sandy, clean, sufficiently insolated from waves, and only accessible by guests of the hotel. I tried one excursion (2h of mountain biking) and I was thoroughly satisfied with their trails and the equipment. Overall one of the best vacations we've ever had.

This amazing resort opened 3 days before our arrival so we anticipated a few hiccups. What we found was a first class oasis and the absolutely perfect Covid era destination. Each room is its own treehouse spread out among 144 acres of jungle with spectacular views of the ocean and mountains. There are three fabulous open air restaurants each with their own vistas, setting and ambiance and pools so you can move around the property throughout the day. The beach is protected by a jetty so the waves are perfect for body surfing, paddle boarding and kayaking. The tasting menu at the Cacao restaurant rivaled our experiences at the best restaurants in the world. The beautiful spa and wellness center had some communication issues but by the time we left those had already been addressed and resolved. We spent 4 days here and always had a full day of hiking, beach activities, gorging or just relaxing in our treehouse in the private plunge pool, outdoor bathtub and luxurious room. Serge, the GM of the property, was constantly accessible, always smiling and is the epitome of the One and Only signature greeting of “Welcome Home”. We will return to this property again very soon.

We stayed here for 3 nights in late November and the experience exceeded our already sky-high expectations. The resort feels more like Costa Rica or Bali than Mexico. The grounds are so incredibly lush and meticulously landscaped. Our Treehouse felt like it had been lowered from the sky without disturbing a single leaf in the forest. If you love interior design these accommodations will make you swoon. I've never stayed at such a photogenic resort. The service is warm and genuine and the food was incredible. The Jetty restaurant was our favorite and we'll be talking about our favorite dishes there for many years to come. I would also recommend a side trip to the adorable nearby town of San Pancho. I've been telling everyone I know to stay here.

The setting and physical layout of the resort are simply unrivaled in Mexico. Situated in a stunning rain forest setting with views of the ocean from every suite and villa, the One&Only offers privacy and security, along with a feeling that you are in an exotic location. The food at each of the restaurants is exceptional, and the warm attention to service was evident with every single staff member we encountered.

We hope to return many times.

If you can, do no hesitate to book this resort. It is GORGEOUS and the service is over the top! We had a the one bedroom villa and everything is top notch from the beautiful bathrooms (outdoor and indoor) to the adjustable skylight in the living area. Hi-tech everything, huge showers, all very roomy. One thing I loved is that the pools are all SO WARM. All the pools (including the private pools) are very warm making it possible to swim at night - the kids loved that.
I think the food options in the restaurants could be expanded to be more kid friendly but you do have several locations to choose from. The Canalan Beach club is not to be missed. The views and food are incredible.
if you can, please book this resort. You will not regret on second of your decision. The staff is incredibly warm and you can tell that they are happy to be there. I learned that the Mandarina takes really good care of the staff and they love it. Many of them came from surrounding five star resorts and they all seem to love the Mandarina.

My husband and I went 3 nights and wish we would have stayed at least one (or many) more. What a breathtaking place! I had heard mixed reviews on the service, but our experience was amazing. Staff did everything to make us feel at home. We stayed at a ocean view cliff villa and it is one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed at. Definitely worth the upgrade from a treehouse, which is also incredibly nice but the pool and terrace are not private. The spa and wellness program is first class. Reach out to Alejandro Ortiz, the wellness director, who will guide you on how to make the best of your experience. The spa facilities and some of the classes (we tried the breathing class) are free for hotel guests.
Although I would not necessarily describe this hotel as a family hotel, the kids zone is the best I have seen. It has big grounds with tree houses, an aviary, and many games.
We spent our days in the swimming pool by the beach (the ones upstairs had amazing views but too quiet for us) and Mandarina´s beach club (right outside the hotel) which we loved and had the best restaurant- italian food and Karla, their lovely chef.
The only drawback was that there are only 2 restaurants open for dinner- and one of them is by Enrique Olvera- a chef known for his high prices and small portions. We did not really enjoy dinner there. Adding a new restaurant would be a great idea so that we can have different options.
Serge the manager was always checking that we were made feel at home.

We just returned from a 5 day stay at One & Only Mandarina. The resort is stunningly beautiful, perched in a jungle overlooking the ocean. The resort and the rooms were wonderful, but the service is not anywhere near other One & Only (or any other luxury resorts) I have been to.
Because of the layout of the resort you are dependent on your butler to take you from place to place. Our butler was a ghost. She would sometimes not see/answer a text for hours. We eventually started standing outside our room and flagging down anyone who drove by. We travelled with another couple who had a wonderful butler who would answer immediately, and if unavailable, would send someone else for them. He would come to the pool and check on them periodically- which ours never did. He checked on our covid tests because she never answered our text.
Furthermore, the service in the restaurants, bars and pools is painfully slow. We often had to order a drink 3 times before it was actually delivered while the waiters were standing at bar talking. Drinks were often forgotten. One day at the Jetty Beach club pool, my husband ordered steak quesadillas. The waiter never brought them and when asked said they were out of shrimp and white cheese used to make them, even though he had ordered steak. At meals, water glasses and drinks remained empty for far too long. There were a few bright spots- Daniel who is a lifeguard was more helpful than most of the waiters at the carao pool, and our friends butler, George, was amazing.
We had a wonderful time, but for the $1400 per night price tag and the One & Only name- we expect a level of service that we did not see.

Yes, the gym is within the spa facilities. You can access SOME spa facilities without booking a treatment, like the pool and the mud bath, but only if they aren’t occupied and aren’t busy. You have to ask them

My experience is that you never drink water from the sink. That applies to US and global properties as well as ultra luxury cruises. You never know how the water got there.
