What an experience, we're well travelled in east Africa and were expecting that we would find a lot more places like Bulungula on our travels through south Africa but this place is unique. It really is a piece of real Africa and we are really grateful that we made the stop at Bulungula whilst we were travelling the wild coast....

We stayed for x4 nights and had paid for our (private) accommodation and lodge shuttle services up-front. We really wanted to have a week of pure relaxation: long walks on the beach, reading and reflecting. Every second day unfortunately our personal time was interrupted by people wanting to collect/exchange items in our private room and being asked every night of...

Bulungula is just awesome. Yes it is a long gravel road with lots of potholes until you get there. But it probably wouldn't be the same experience and vibe if you could get there on a highway. Here you can really escape the stressful life in cities. The area is really quiete and absolutely beautiful, the lodge is directly at...

Had a great few days at Bulungula Lodge. Pluses: - great location - off the grid living - simple, but amazing accommodation - showers are an adventure on its own - common room is beautiful To be improved: - I think the establishment is poorly run and can be improved on in a few ways. - women selling stuff in...

This is a "love it - hate it" place, we totally felt in love with it, in spite of 3 days of rain, bad and muddy roads to get there and only very basic services and amenities. It is a great experience of Xhosa life, I wish we stayed there longer and I hope to be able to visit again.

If you want feel the xhosa culture, this place is perfect for it. We had a amazing village Tour and a good canoing tour. Breakfast is okay and Dinner really good! Be aware that the description How to get there is not really precise!

This place is incredible, if you are driving along the wild coast (or even if you're not planning on it) you must stay here! A gentlemen started this lodge always knowing that he wanted to turn over ownership to the local Xhosa community. And in 2014 that's exactly what he did! This place is 100% community owned and run and...

We spent three days at Bulungula lodge, an ensemble of rondavels located in a wonderful position between the sea, the river and the smooth surrounding hills. The two hours of white road needed to arrive there are soon forgotten once you are there. This is a place where you can easily forget your world and enter in a another dimension, in...

We had a lovely three night stay at Bulungula and enjoyed it very much. The journey from the main road is somewhat arduous, (just over two hours over not great roads) but is interesting and gives you an insight into rural life in this part of South Africa. We had a rondavel for 4 which had nothing in it bar...

Me and my boyfriend booked to stay for two nights at Bulungula Lodge, but only ended up staying for one, and for good reason... Firstly we were aware of the road condition on the way there and knew our little polo may struggle at times. But we were surprised at how easily it coped. However, the car was pretty much...
