We really enjoyed a week long stay at Ambong, we were looking for a relaxing holiday and Ambong and its staff achieved this for us easily. The resort is set just on the edge of town on a hillside in the forest. The units are arranged around the site allowing the wildlife good access to the area, we saw monkeys every day and a wide variety of birds with little effort on our part. It is worth spending the extra on the more expensive rooms as the views are fabulous. As the rooms are set on a hillside, the staff offer a car taxi service to shuttle you around and to its sister resort if you wish, we found this a very useful and effective service. The drivers, like all the other staff are lovely and chatty. They offered us lots of little hints and tips that made our holiday.
The rooms are well equipped, perhaps the bed is a little firmer than home, but still comfortable. At check in you are guided through the resort facilities and shown to your room. We were surprised with the large bowl of lovely fruit in our room, the mango was particularly delicious and the lychees wonderful. Filtered drinking water and soft drinks were also provided.
There is a Vegan restaurant on site which we found tasty, Rimba is on the sister site which offers a wide range of mostly local dishes using local produce. We found the food from Rimba particularly pleasing, with its relaxed service and well flavoured dishes, offering good value. The tables on the upper section of the restaurant have lovely views over the trees to the sea, and when the sun sets, it is a perfect setting, although it can make working the flesh from a whole fish off the bone as the sun sets a little more challenging. When the staff have time they are happy to talk to you, we found this interesting to learn a little bit more about them and Malaysia.
Overall we were very happy with our Ambong holiday, we have been many holidays, but have never encountered such helpful and genuinely lovely staff, well done keep up the good work.

This was our second stay at Ambong Rainforest Retreat and was every bit as wonderful as the last. The staff are so welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The view from our room is spectacular, and we saw lots of hornbill, monkeys, and squirrels from our veranda. Ambong is a short walk to the beach and other amenities, but it felt like a true jungle retreat away from the hustle and bustle. We even received complimentary afternoon tea that with tasty savoury and sweet delights, an unexpected but very welcome treat. The fridge was kept stocked up with water and soft drinks all complimentary. There were lots of steps to climb up to our room, but we could request a lift up or down if we needed it, and the response was always very quick. This free shuttle also extends to places outside the resort. We would like to send a special thank you to Icharam (hope we have the spelling right). He always greeted us with a smile. He goes about his work in a very professional and attentive manner and is always friendly and helpful. Also, many thanks to Raja, the cheerful gardener, we looked forward to seeing him every morning and having jovial chats with him and listening to his informative knowledge about the local wildlife. If you want a peaceful resort with a more personal touch, then I would definitely recommend you stay here. You won't be disappointed

Great, unique hotel! Very quiet, no mass tourism; it is right in the jungle. The staff are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful! Breakfast is amazing! There is no buffet, everything is freshly prepared. The best breakfast I've ever had! The restaurants are also highly recommended. Comparatively, these are a bit more expensive, but very delicious. The rooms were very large and clean. Even though the rooms are right in the jungle, we didn't have any animals in the room. That's what's being watched. Guests can also use herbal mosquito sprays for free (very important in Malaysia), as well as filtered water. To get to the rooms you have to walk a few meters up a slope; however, you can also be driven at any time for free. The hotel is not far from the beach; in the city you are also very fast (with grave). I would come back anytime. Great setting, unique experience!

I will try not to repeat the other reviewers on Ambong Rainforest Retreat.

Our family of 3 have stayed at some very lovely places so far, but Ambong Rainforest Retreat is special in the warmth of it's incredible staff and the thoughtfulness behind how this luxury boutique hotel has been created and maintained.

I personally loved the small touches such as having tissue boxes within arms reach throughout our 2 bedroom villa, and was charmed by the layout of our rooms with Malaysian crafts utilised where possible (I wanted to purchase the laundry basket!) and the welcoming massage in leaves and flowers were so pretty.

With our daily breakfasts, we would swap between Pegaga and Rimba and enjoyed both restaurants - my personal favourite was the prata at Rimba and the avocado and mushroom toast plus coconut ice-cream at Pegaga.

All the staff at Ambong Rainforest Retreat were very warm and welcoming, from the charming male drivers who would ferry us between the onsite restaurants of Rimba and Pegaga to our villa, the groundsmen faithfully sweeping up all the leaves each morning to make it safe for people walking the grounds to the lovely staff at Pegaga and Rimba. Akane and Shifa were really easy and lovely to communicate with when we had queries and I was bowled over by the thoughtful farewell gifts for my daughter and I before we left. I also want to make special mention of a young muslim lady who works the front counter whenever we visited Pegaga, as she kindly obtained an ingredient list for a ginger tea I was served at my foot massage which I had expressed interest in and it was wholly unexpected.

Our 2 bedroom villa was very clean, practically-laid out and comfortable for our family over 8 nights. I liked it being set apart from the other villas, giving us privacy and setting the scene for a very tranquil and peaceful stay. For those who have concerns about any club music from a nearby restaurant/hotel - we could not hear the music inside our rooms, so it was a non-issue for me (and I am sensitive to noise).

Honestly, I didn't want to leave Ambong, but hopefully we will be back again one day. I give our heartfelt thanks again to everyone who made our stay a very memorable one.

I stay at Ambong Rainforest studio for 4 nights, and my stay was impeccable. What touches my heart the most is the service and staff’s attention to details and cleanness. The rooms is cleansed daily, and housekeeper came to room before sunset to prepare the room for night time - closing curtain, refilling drinking water and coffee capsule (nespresso). Shifa’s team did a great job taking care of the guest. The complementary yoga class is also very effective for stretching, with an awesome instructor. I would recommend it be your stay in Langkawi.

My partner and I spent two nights at Ambong. We loved every moment of staying there. The staff are so attentive, kind, and always more than happy to help. An especially nice touch is the car service to and from the rooms as the hotel is on a very very steep hill! We also used the laundry service which was great value and our clothes were clearly treated with care.

The room was immaculately clean and very cosy, and had helpful touches like a small kitchen. We had a fantastic view across the canopy and could see across to the sea.

We also had dinner and breakfast at the Rimba Restaurant which was our favourite food in Langkawi - I would recommend eating here even if you aren't staying at the Ambong. I am vegetarian and they were fab at providing vegetarian options (there's also a separate vegan restaurant!)

All in all, Ambong was both of our favourite hotels we've ever stayed in and we would definitely return here on a future visit to Langkawi!!

We stayed here as a couple for three nights in December 2023. The hotel itself has a total of 11 rooms, so attention was given to every corner. From reception to after check-out, the always sincere and kind staff were very helpful during our stay. Housekeeping is done twice a day.

The sea view canopy suite has an open-air bathtub, which is perfect for relieving the fatigue of sightseeing. There is also a sun bed, so it was extremely relaxing. Monkeys come to play in the room, but don't worry, they won't attack you. The bedroom is also locked, so you don't have to worry about them being mischievous.

Located on a hill, in the mountains, you basically have to call a car to get around from your room. Communication with the concierge is done via WhatsApp, so even those who don't speak much English can translate and exchange messages.

In terms of location, it is about a 5-minute walk from Pantai Tengger. At the foot of the mountain where the hotel is located is the Japanese restaurant UNKAIZAN. The hotel will provide a shuttle from UNKAIZAN to the hotel.
When you go out, you can call Grab and pick up a car in about 3-4 minutes from morning to night, and it's very convenient, with Pantai Cenang being about 10 minutes away.

For breakfast, you can use the restaurant Rimba in the pool villa. You can choose from three types of food, including Western, Halal, and Malaysian, which are cooked to order. The restaurant staff also provided friendly service with easy-to-understand English and gestures.

The lovely room, the hospitality of the staff, the food in a great location, and the access to tourist attractions made it a very satisfying stay.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Lee, who was very helpful during my stay, and Ms. Akane, who I met on the last day, for making my first Langkawi the best vacation ever.

My family stayed 5 nights in the single storey two bedroom house – Baras Besah (BB). The house is comprised of two bedrooms each with their own bathrooms and amazing water pressure in the shoer, it has a central kitchenette with a small table and stools and a large balcony overlooking the rainforest where you can sit and watch the monkeys. My wife and I stayed while celebrating our wedding anniversary and were welcomed with a decorated bed, a welcome bottle of wine and cake in the fridge, and a personal note from Prem welcoming us. All were thoughtful and lovely touches we greatly appreciated. The Retreat has its own vegan restaurant Pegaga which serves yummy breakfasts, however if you prefer to eat breakfast at Rimba (also fantastic) at the Pool Villas, just contact the staff and they will pick you up and drive you. And this is where Ambong sets itself apart, Prem and his team are genuine, lovely people, and will do anything to ensure you enjoy your stay. From restaurant advice, picking us up for breakfast or dinner, and assisting with an early checkout and breakfast, they go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable. For nearby restaurants, turn right out of the resort and walk 10 mins to Cactus (cash only) and Bobies (best noodle soup I’ve had). There is also an ATM between the two, and a mini-mart on the opposite side of the road (white building) which has the cheapest drinks and great selection. Well done Prem and the team at Ambong Ambong, thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed for 11 nights in February 2025. This was not too long at all, as the resort is so wonderful we enjoyed relaxing there.

The staff are all absolutely wonderful. They are so thoughtful, and they take the time to get to know you so they know what you like. This makes the stay so much better. I cannot overstate how lovely and kind the staff are. They really treated us to the best holiday ever!

The food is brilliant and very vegetarian / vegan friendly. I am vegetarian and I loved the food at both restaurants. The food at both restaurants was the best food we had in Langkawi so we ate ate the hotel more than we planned! The view at Rimba Sky restaurant is phenomenal! I particularly enjoyed breakfast, it was a great a la carte menu and was a very relaxing start to the day.

The laundry service was very reasonable.

We also enjoyed the fact that it's adult only, though children from outside the resort are permitted in the restaurants as these are open to the public. The fact it was adult only meant we really enjoyed the pool as it was usually very quiet!

Thank you Ambong for such a wonderful, relaxing, memorable trip. We are so very grateful.

Cozy rainforest getaway with comfortable, spacious room and helpful, friendly, and accessible staff. Ambong paid particular attention to making sure our room was clean and bug-free with regular cleanings and providing free repellents as needed. The free breakfast was excellent - including fresh fruits and juice and a choice of western or Malay entrees - with a view of some rainforest neighbors (monkeys!) and the bay. The rooms are on a steep hill but Ambong provides a free shuttle to help you get to and from where you need to go whenever you need it. Overall a lovely stay!

Hi We are nestled in the rainforest and you will see some wild life like dusky leaf monkeys. giant squirrels and hornbills. In our 7 years of operation, we have come across a few snakes but they have never been an issue. Almost always snakes are more frightened of us than we are of them Please be assured that your chances of coming across a snake is practically zero. If you decide to stay with us please book directly for a better discount. Kind regards, Sharina

We stayed in Ambong Ambong Pool villas which consists of only 8 villas with your bery own private pools. Each villa is unique and offers different views (ocean view, partial ocena view, jungle view...) Sun exposure also depends on which villa u get. It’s stated in their website how much sun you’ll get at the different villas.
