Tucked between coconut palms and lush tropical gardens, the Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa is located by a pristine, white sandy beach overlooking the tranquil Andaman Sea and an archipelago of over 104 islands. The resort remains close to the bustling Cenang Beach, yet retains its natural charm as secluded hideaway as the two beaches lay parted by a cliff, accessible only by road. Over the years, The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa has garnered a number of prestigious awards, including the ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2014, as well as Tripadvisor's Top 25 Relaxation and Spa Hotels for Malaysia.

The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa is often celebrated for its idyllic beachfront location, providing a tranquil island escape that guests adore. While the staff is lauded for their amiable and supportive demeanor, there are occasional mentions of slow service. Accommodations range from spacious to basic, with cleanliness and upkeep highlighted as areas for improvement. Value-wise, the resort is considered budget-friendly by many, though opinions on cost justification vary. Amenities like the pools and family-friendly features are well-regarded, even if some suggest a need for refurbishment.

All was very good much better then we expected. We booked this hotel because the hotel that we planned to stay was fully booked at our dates and now I think maybe it was better to book Frangipani for two weeks.
Pluses: highly friendly personnel.
Not very expensive prices in the main restaurant, and very good food.
Sea and view are beautiful, especially at sunset.
Our family room was very comfortable for 4 persons. (For it’s cost - perfect)
Very usable location of the hotel - all is nearby - restaurants, shops, e t c (we’ve move to the north side of island after and here situation is quite different)
Many animals and birds we so on the territory (eagles, monkeys, squirrels, rhino birds and others)

Minuses:

I wish that the pools will be cleaned better and more often.
We have some problems with electricity, and water. First one was solved quickly, second one in the next morning, but maybe it’s time for owners to think about renovations.

This hotel is at the quiet end of Pantai Cenang at Pantai Tengah. The beach was always cleaned in the morning and the seawater was beautiful. There were two days where there were a few jellyfish but they have a man who regularly checks the netted swim area. Pools were both great, although I preferred the Restaurant end of the Resort, it had more trees and shade. Don’t expect a tropical look here, as it is eco and the grass is growing on sand & dirt. Gardens are clean & tidy. Housekeeping was good. Staff were very nice & pleasant. I booked a Deluxe room but when we got there they took us to a room that, although a nice room, was behind another building. Room 145. We upgraded our room to a bungalow, which was excellent, but at a cost!!! Breakfast was good and there was a good choice of Curries, cereals, fruit, egg Station, salads etc. There were enough sun lounges and umbrellas for all. Bar had happy hour from 12-3pm then 6-9 pm. Close to some good restaurants outside the hotel & turn right. Not much night life, if that’s what you are looking for. The hotel has two fabulous singers nightly, if you just like to relax and watch the sunset. Really nice hotel but I think a bit overpriced for Malaysia but that just might be because it’s Langkawi. We went for 9 nights and would probably say 6 nights would be enough.

We spent three delightful weeks over Christmas and New Year at this pretty, eco-resort in Langkawi, our first holiday in two years after the lockdown in Malaysia. We had one of the beach villas and it was just a few metres to the beautiful, pristine beach, which we could run every day. We particularly would like to compliment the Chef and the restaurant staff who went out of their way to help us with our Whole Food Plant Based way of eating (for health reasons). As there were only a couple of items on the menu we could eat, and not enough vegetables, we would order a meal and I bought extra green vegetables at the supermarket, which Chef Hishan cooked for us, adding a small charge to the bill to cover the cost of the extra service. (Generally in Langkawi we found it hard to get enough vegetable-based meals.) Our room was very comfortable and we especially enjoyed the outside shower. Only two negatives for our entire stay: We felt that COVID SOPs weren’t enforced, with many staff not wearing masks (this excludes the waitresses in the restaurant who always wore masks) and no notices advising guests to wear masks. (It is compulsory in Malaysia to wear masks). In addition, on occasion, people smoked in the restaurant, and smoke causes asthma like reactions in me, so I really dislike it. It would be really good if the restaurant could be smoke free. But apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Frangipani and hope to be back!

When you pay a premium price certain things are expected that unfortunately the Frangipani did not deliver. We arrived late in the afternoon, after the designated check-in-time, only to have to wait in excess of an hour for our room to be prepared. For the first two days we had no water pressure in the shower and no hot water. There was also an issue with the toilet one morning when it had no water and wouldn’t flush. If the hotel was having water issues, no one took the initiative to inform us of this. The fridge had been cleaned out but was not switched on so we needed to tend to this. The air-conditioning remote was not working so we were unable to control the room temperature/turn the unit off for the first night and next day until this was fixed. The pool opened at 8am, yet there were no pool towels provided for use at this time and a phone call to request them was always necessary. The location of the resort was beautiful as were the friendly staff, but overall the resort felt run down and at close to $1000.00 per night (booked through Agoda) for my family of four I’m really disappointed!

We have been travelling to Langkawi for over two decades, but the whole 3 nights here were a series of unsavoury experiences and indifferent service. On the first day, we ordered drinks and discovered a waiter at the bar openly adding old wine to fresh to make up a glass. When we pointed it out, all we got was a shrug and a smile. When we asked for the bill, the number of drinks had been padded to inflate the bill. Again, when we pointed it out, the bill was changed to the correct amount without any apology. Needless to say, we were very careful with what we ordered after that. Staff also has a very limited command of English, so miscommunication while ordering was a constant frustration.
Breakfast was barely adequate by Langkawi hotel standards, and one morning we had to wait 30 minutes for the egg station to be manned. Some of the fittings in the room and bathroom were dilapidated and the in-room television service didn't work properly for all three nights, as it seemed to be transmitted over an internet based service. Complaining had no effect. Wifi is patchy, there are no phones in the rooms and no room service either.
Because of this shoddy service, even on its green credentials, it seemed that asking guests to reuse and tote pool towels to and from their rooms, and changing linens only every third day was less about going green and more about making a virtue out of severe understaffing.
On the positive side, most of the staff did seem to be trying hard, but were clearly overwhelmed with what was expected of them. The private beach is very quiet and serene and the pool and jacuzzi were kept clean and inviting.

With a great location, resort atmosphere and green sensibility, it seems a pity that we have to say-Never again.

The resort is 15 mimutes from the airport and costs about 13 to 15 MYR by Grab. It has a private beach and two swimming pools. One chlorinated and one with salt water. Both are large and comfortably located. The bar is on a costlier side with beer costing between 7 to 10 MYR depending on time of day. Alcohol is generally on costlier side inside the resort. The breakfast buffet is very well endowed with local , European and Indian dishes. The rooms are simple yet adequately furnished. Clean and airy. Everything works. The staff is pleasant, polite and well behaved. The street outside the resort has many small and large restaurants where beer cost 3 or 4 MYR and food is available for all palettes and pocket sizes. The Zon duty free is only 10 mins away by cab. All in all a great place. If you are flying back to KL, the 15:25 Malindo flight fits in with checkout.

The resort is already older but has a great location at a nice beach, close enough to walk to restaurants and night life but far enough to have a quiet and relaxing holiday.
The regular rooms right next to each other are with very thin walls, you can hear everything from the neighboring rooms.
It is nice, not like a 4 star resort, but a good option.

Frangipani is an Eco Friendly Resort that takes it way beyond the card you put on the bed to keep you linens from being washed. They have their own stingless bees making honey for breakfast, a closed loop compost system, solar power, an aquaponics system, ducks & chicks for eggs, a vast recycling center, and even a wetland area for the septic system! This is truly a "Green Hotel" that other establishments should lean from...but on top of all that... they are located on a very nice, clean, swimmable beach. Make sure to rent one of the little cabins with out door showers-my favorite! The staff is super and the food is good. Everything is clean and the grounds are amazing.

If your looking for a relaxing, peaceful & old school classic place to stay without all the modern hype & like to support people and businesses that care about the environment, then don't miss the chance to stay at the Frangipani in Langkawi!!

Take the Eco Tour with Dewi to lean more!

Dear lisafuturegreen, Thank you for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed our beach front location with clean semi-private beach overlooking the stunning Andaman Sea, five minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Cenang Beach and close by to many international-local eateries, bars and cafes as well as shopping spots. We are pleased to know that you also enjoyed your stay in our villa with garden inspired outdoor shower and the services rendered by our approachable staffs were to your satisfaction. Our staffs are always eager to please and are important to the hotel operations. We’re so happy you loved the foods served at Mentari Restaurant. Our continental restaurant caters to the needs of our diverse guest origins even though our specialty is local Malay food. The team is delighted to hear that their green efforts are appreciated and your appreciation for the same makes us feel proud. For years, we have continually assessed, managed, and improved our ongoing relationship with the environment, and incorporating sustainable green practices. One can go on our award winning and also complimentary eco walk to see some of the 300 green practices that we do at the resort. We are also the only resort in Malaysia to treat our grey water with a plant system into grade A drinking water which we then use to water our plants. Most island resorts impact the marine life by discharging its waste water direct into the sea. We have had hundreds of schools, NGOs and ministries come to do our eco walk every year. We grow our own fruits and vegetables such as mulberry, moringa, butterfly pea flower, frangipani flowers, lemongrass and so much more and serves them at the resort in a form of organic drinks, jam and even sell it to our guests. We hope you had a great vacation with us and we look forward to welcoming you and your loved one at the resort again for another spectacular stay. Best wishes, The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa

One of the few hotels on the island that is a actually on the beach, The Frangipani is a value for money winner. They pretty much have a private part of the beach too. Lovely gardens, great pools, fantastic breakfast and nice, spacious rooms. The wifi is very impressive with strong connections all over the property right the way down to the beach! No idea how they do that! We can’t even get full, four bar wifi in all the areas of our house! Plenty of good dining options and convenience stores outside the hotel too!

The resort is in a fantastic location. Yes it is a little dated but this is what gives it its charm. The rooms were big and clean with super airconditioning. The staff are excellent and cant do enough for you, special praise to all those working at the main bar. They really care about their environment and you will enjoy a stay here far more than the soulless large hotels that are nearby. We hope to return again
