This place is one of a kind! The lay out of the cabinas are stunning, I loved the outside shower and balcony so private. Amazing service, Ralph was terrific he set up the turtle tour for us and gave us great information. The food, service,...More
This is a beautifull accommodation just out of Ostional. We had a superb room with outside shower just next to our balcony so accesable from in and outside. Breakfast was great and so was was the hospitality.
After traveling two weeks through Costa Rica we arrived at Luna Azul for a 3 night stay. The owners Rolf and Andreas and the entire staff are wonderful. From the moment you arrive you feel you are in paradise!
The grounds are impeccably kept. The...More
We came over for one night, to start off its far from all beaches. Second the restaurant food was not very good. The hotel its just a cheap looking hotel. The worse part of all this, when we got to the check in, the owner...More
We four friends stayed two nights in adjoining casitas. Loved the accommodations! The open-to-nature shower was really fun! Rolf, our host, has in-depth knowledge of the area and is happy to share his information in four languages. (English, German, Spanish, French)
The food is fantastic!...More

The arribadas are always in the middle, between Full Moon and New Moon, around the last quarter moon and Lasts about 5 days. So you can get a moon calendar and find the dates. Turtles arrive in the incoming high tide, mostly in the middle of the high tide. But when there are big arribadas, they arrive day and night.

It is hard to say if you will see the turtles...they are unpredictable. Are you staying at Luna Azul because if you are, I would email them....they were super helpful and very tapped into the turtles coming and going. There is also a web-site that you could find that has the moon cycles that talks about the turtles...just google Olive Ridley Turtle Aribida Cycles....or something to that affect. Tamarindo is about an hour drive but it is excellent for surfing...a nice drive.

As far as I remember there were just a few rooms with "some" ocean view. Contact the owners, they are quite helpful accommodating guest request.
Regarding the beach access: There is none. the closest beach is like 10 minutes by car or over 30 minutes of hard (uneven, hilly) walking. Most people go to the turtle beach, but close by (even closer) there is a small beach with some fishers that for a few $ will take you around (better than the 'organize' tourist boat trip and way cheaper).
