Stayed here for 1 night on 29th June, the first thing you notice is the beautiful scenery all around this location.
My room was on the ground floor just around from reception which was ideal.
On first sight my room was tidy with a double bed as requested which was comfy & surely helped towards a good nights sleep. There was a kettle & a good choice of various Tea & Coffees accompanied with a few bottles of water & a couple of packs of biscuits.
The shower would of been ok if it had been cleaned, it was the dirtiest I have ever come across. There was black mould & soap scum on & between every tile. The sink also had a large crack & was missing a plug which made it difficult to shave.
The staff are all friendly & made me feel welcome. I would stay again

We have recently returned from a wonderful night stay at The Old Rectory. The location was perfect being just outside the charming Welsh billage of Crickhowell. This was our first time staying at this hotel.
We found the staff very helpful and welcoming on arrival. We were able to leave our cars there all day before we checked in at 4pm.
The hotel is perfect for people wanting to stay with their dogs, which are aloud everywhere apart from the restaurant.
We were delighted to be upgraded to a fabulous Superior Suite which was very large and extremely comfortable complete with a large and stylish bathroom furnished with walk-in shower and a very large jacuzzi bath! Perfect after a long day walking in the surrounding hills.
The lawns were extensive with views of table mountain and the Black Hills. You can easily access the canal path from the hotel grounds too. Our evening meal was lovely with attentive service. Although located in the bar to accommodate the dogs this did not effect our overall enjoyment.
Breakfast was wonderful and freshly made with great attention to detail. There was everything you could ask for from pastries, toast and English muffins, fresh fruit, ample selection of cereals. Hot option too which consisted of full English and Welsh selection, has browns , choice of eggs, black pudding.
Based on previous reviews we had reservations about what to expect however, do not be put off from staying in this hidden gem. We will definitely be returning, we did not want to leave! Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay.

Myself and my husband stayed here with a few members of our family for a family wedding for 2 nights. So the positives...The views are amazing. The hotel is situated in a cute village with a nice pub nearby. The staff were all lovely. The bits that could have been better...We had to wait a good 5 minutes at reception anytime we needed anything and there was only one lady working in the restaurant at breakfast because they were understaffed. We had booked a family room with a bath at £280 and it stated that we would have a bath in the room. When we got there, the lady told us there where no family rooms left with a bath and couldn't move us because the hotel was full so she could see if we could get a small discount. Another family member had a bath but a smaller room so we ended up swapping with them but paid more for the room with no discount so that was disappointing. The room we stayed in was dated. The beds weren't comfy but the bath was nice. The breakfast was included so we went down on the Saturday and was given a piece of paper to write down what items we wanted ie bacon, sausage etc. There was toast, yoghurt, fruit and cereal that you could help yourself too but it all was average so we didn't go the next morning. Overall, it was very expensive for what you got and could be better.

There are very friendly staff here. BUT
No evening meal available
Flies infested the room
Manky flattened door stop kicking around on floor like an ancient piece of rubbish no one could be bothered to bin
Negligible cleaning despite preponderance of flies
TVs that don’t work - in 2 different rooms
Scalding hot water in showers with no mechanism to mix cold water to make warm water
Almost refused breakfast on day 2 due to staff clearing restaurant + minimal food available. Relocated to the bar to eat what could be salvaged
Promises to clean flies and fix TV not kept over 3 days
More and more flies each day
Offered alternative room and then told none available
Twin bedded room finally offered with a dirty toilet
Cost of fly free only option non negotiable twin bedded room £130!
Offered a free night following decision to leave a day early, there-by losing the so called ‘free’ night.
Paid to get away.

Beautiful hotel in gorgeous surroundings. I booked a room with a jacuzzi bath and I had a reply saying the hotel would kindly upgrade us to a better room with jacuzzi bath and walk in shower. Unfortunately the room was in the eves/attic which only had skylight windows which I found very clausbofobic as you couldn't really appreciate the view. We were only there for one night so I put up with it. The breakfast had a great menu and with eggs Benedict my favourite, unfortunately my eggs were a little undercooked and a bit wet/gunky on the white which turns my tummy. The staff were lovely and I would love to stay again but in a different room with a view. I also felt they could've asked if I was ok with an attic room and skylight windows, also there were alot of stairs to climb.

Positives - We liked the staff friendliness and helpfulness. The bed was extremely comfortable and our evening meal was delicious.

Negatives - There was no attached overhead shower. The spa bath needed to be thoroughly cleaned as when we put the jets on black bits were coming out. There were scuff marks and holes in the room. Needs serious updating. Our breakfast for the 1st morning was abysmal. The waiter took half an hour to acknowledge us and bring us drinks. My partners breakfast was stone cold but we couldn't find the waiter to complain. My eggs Benedict was equally awful with a bitter tasting sauce and rock hard muffins. As breakfast was already prepaid we decided on the 2nd morning to have breakfast again and it was slightly better but nothing special. The room itself had paper thin walls so you could hear every footstep and door slam. Overall, considering the price we paid we expected an excellent breakfast and a good night's sleep but sadly we got neither.

We stayed at the Old Rectory for 3 nights ( 2 adults and a dog).
Upon arrival, check in was easy and all information regarding meal times etc were communicated, however they forgot to mention the fact that room 21 (not sure if it was the room only or the floor) had no heating as when we got into the room it was absolutely freezing and noticed that a black heater had been placed in there and the radiator was not working. My partner spoke to reception and they informed him that they had been experiencing heating problems and that they were waiting for it to be fixed asap-not one offer of an extra blanket or room change so my partner went back and asked for one, which we had and it did make the difference but simply not good enough and the principles and there was a door adjacent to our room that seemed to have buckets of water catching the leaks, numerous amounts of wallpaper coming away from the walls and flies kept appearing in the room, even though the windows were closed. The bed was extremely comfortable.and the bath was lovely, but be careful as the hot nearly stripped my partners skin off.
The food was lovely, but we only had breakfast (continental and choice of Welsh breakfast, pancakes etc) as the evening meals, we thought were way over priced and we ate put every evening and had much better deals and atmosphere as it was extremely quiet when we were there.
The staff could not do enough, very helpful and polite and the chef gave our dog a sausage each morning so he made a friend for life lol.
The hotel itself is located in a lovely quiet village with lots of towns and various walks - crickhowell has a lovely selection of shops, cafes-so does Abergavenny, which is only 8 miles away.
Overall we enjoyed the scenery, food and spending quality time and epykd stay in crickhowell and surrounding areas again, but unfortunately not this hotel, unless it has quite a considerable makeover and maintenance spent on it.

My family and I stayed at this hotel for one night following a day in Brecon. From the outside this is a stunning old building which looks like it has lots of history behind it. On entering the hotel you can immediately see it is very tired and in serious need of a revamp.

The staff were all very friendly and gave us the key to our room. Unfortunately the key to the room didn’t work and I asked for some assistance and was advised there was a ‘knack’ to it. I was in the room for literally minutes before returning to the reception area to advise them of a leak in the bathroom. The floor was soaking. A member of staff did come to the room straight away and tightened up some nuts on the radiator.

Within the hour I had to return to reception on another two occasions. Firstly because we had no toilet roll and secondly I had to report w second leak this time by the front door. This resulted in a change of room.

The second room was an upgrade but again was in serious need of TLC. The bathroom door wouldn’t close and also there was w cistern issue with the toilet and it kept making horrendous noises which kept us up all night!

The food in the evening was slightly disappointing and expensive for what it is. I paid £27 for steak which wasn’t great. My wife had chicken and potatoes but the potatoes were tiny. The kids had good meals.

The breakfast was very good to be fair and we enjoyed.

I raised my concerns with staff when checking out and in fairness they took money off the bill due to our issues. Can’t fault the staff but I will unlikely return in the future.

We booked one night arriving Friday 21st June after a lovely week travelling around Mid Wales and thought it would be a nice way to finish the week. We booked the superior room and got given room 27! ( I’m guessing this is the fall out room) On arrival we had to ring the bell three times before anyone turned up. We checked in we got a roll of eyes when the lady could not find the keys as it had not been hung on the board. We were directed up three flights of stairs ( but not seen to the actual room) we could not believe our eyes when we opened the door. The floor had not been hoovered it was filthy. The room was certainly not a superior room and not the room we booked which was advertised on their web site. The bathroom was in desperate need of repair. The glass shelf was broken over the sink and all the shower was black with stainless steel cover on the shower pipe broken and hanging off. We went down to reception again rang the Bell! I said there must have been some mistake as we had been given the wrong room. The lady on reception replied “ what room have they given you” and shook her head. She explained that a large group had requested certain rooms and the hotel was full so she could not do anything about it except give us a discount. The room was £140 and she offered to discount to £99. Cutting a very long story short we decided not to stay. So the moral of this story is that they had doubled booked our room. I should have done my research a bit better. The pictures need updating on their web site and looking at other reviews people have experienced similar problems. I would avoid this place at all cost and particularly room 27! I can appreciate the hospitality industry has gone and is going through a tough time but this was totally unacceptable.

Horseshoe Inn 5-10 min walk not sure on pool table though. Crickhowell town centre 20 min walk, many pubs, again not sure on pool tables. As suggested contact hotel I'm sure they will help.
