If I had only one day for a day trip, leaving from Fitzpatrick Castle, I would go to Powerscourt House & Gardens and also make a slightly further side trip to the Powerscourt Waterfall near it a little more to the south -- both well worth the trip. That answer assumes you have a car although you may be able to book a tour that includes transport.
