We have just arrived home from a very relaxing peaceful week in Quack cottage. The scenery was breathtaking, so quiet and the ideal place to unwind. The cottage was so clean with biscuits for the family and doggy biscuits for our 5 golden retrievers. They enjoyed every minute of the holiday, exploring the fresh water stream and wooded area was another...

Looking at the previous reviews I'd agree that the cottages and location are very good for people with young children. However as a couple with two dogs we found the trip in and out fairly stressful and prevented us from going out in the evening. It's 15 minutes from the main road and a difficult drive with lots of blind...

Hi Cheshire lad, Thank you for taking the time to review our cottages on tripadvisor and describe our rural location. For future guests, please be aware that we are 1.5 miles from the "main road" at Slapton "which is also a narrow Devon country lane" and takes around 5 mins to drive or 25mins to walk, this is our nearest...

These cottages have breathtaking scenery and friendly owners. Before our trip we had lots of information explaining everything and then some. Their directions are brilliant and you must have faith in their directions, DO NOT use any other method to get you there! This holiday is very different from everyday life, there is no T.V. no mobile coverage and no...

Thank you for your sparkling words, we are so happy you, you family and dog enjoyed your holiday in the valley, May half term is always fun and it's a delight to see kids playing on the lawns and in the stream. Good to know the directions work, SatNav is so unreliable around here! We look forward to welcoming you...

Fantastic communication prior to arrival regarding the cottages and necessary information. Getting there was a little terrifying with rather tight steep country roads, but was given good directions. Upon arrival there was a cake, freshly picked flowers and a doggy biscuit. A little dated decor but nothing takes away from the beautiful setting, the peace and quiet, and all the...

We wanted to stay somewhere for New year where we could all have time to meet up and socialise. There were 3 couples and 3 families with a total of 6 children under 7. The cottages were lovely, all with plenty of bathrooms and each with a wood burner and heaters which meant they were nice and cosy. Each cottage...

Ruth thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review. We are so glad that your group of families had a comfortable New Year break here at Watermill Cottages, even with the extreme rainy weather we had over that period. You wouldn't believe it but in the summer the Gara Brook is only a few feet high and...

We stood at Crownwheel Cottage for three nichts. The area is wide and very nice with animals and fire places. Behind our house there was a little walk into the woods. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rediscover what life is all about as you relax and unwind in one of our five comfy Watermill Cottages in the tranquil coastal Gara Valley, below the hamlet of Hansel, Slapton, Nr Dartmouth in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in south Devon. Our dog-friendly, fun-friendly historic old stone cottages offer comfy space in unique buildings plus your own private garden or patio with bbq & outdoor furniture, perfect for getting away from it all... And a rural, coastal retreat for eco-friendly breaks too. Plenty to experience of a self-sufficienctish life - we generate electricity from a water turbine using the former mill leat, grow our own meat, eggs and veg, and press our own apples for juice & cider on a smallholding on 20 secret acres near the sea. We raise ducks, hens, sheep, sometimes cows and pigs. We offer meat and surplus eggs and veg to our guests and welcome help with feeding the animals. Each cottage is tastefully converted from the former mill building, barns & workers' cottages round the old mill-house, built in the 1750s. Thick stone walls, beams, and logburners make each cottage individual in decor offering you spacious, comfortable accommodation, a modern fitted kitchen (with own washing machine, microwave, electric oven or range, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer), bathrooms with baths and showers. Walks from your cottage door and beyond on green lanes, a 24 hour wildlife channel right outside your window. Great birdwatching and star-gazing - no ight pollution. Woods, meadows, private gardens, shared lawns, undisturbed water meadows & a shallow stream to enjoy - a haven of peace and tranquility almost untouched by the modern world. Holidays like they used to be ... Space to relax and explore... We welcome free-range kids and well-behaved dogs. ... more   less
