My husband and I have been traveling to Italy at least once a year over the last 15 years. I can be quite particular about hotels and having experienced so many of the great ones, I can say (with conviction) the the Grand Hotel Angiolieri is destined to be one of the most highly regarded hotels in South Italy. The decor, the attention to detail, the breathtaking views are just a few of the things that will keep me coming back here but above all the service is incomparable. The staff makes you feel like you are home while giving attention to detail in every way. All of them greeted us with big smiles on their faces and were there to serve and help us in any possible way. If you’re looking to be close enough to Sorrento town but not in the hustle and bustle this is the place to be.

NOT a 5 star. This is a 3 star maximum. DO NOT BOOK. If you book through a third party website they put you in a horrible small room, next to the stairs where people can peek into your room while you sleep. Also the hygiene was horrible. See photo of shower. After speaking with the manager I was told I I paid less than normal so I have to stay in the horribly tiny room and if I don’t like it I can leave. They lied said they don’t have other rooms to change me to (they had many). I requested a different attitude and approach as this was unexpected from a 5 star, I was met with resistance, defensiveness, her speaking over me and arguing with me, the client. I told her this isn’t 5 star, she replied by saying she can cancel the reservation and help me find another hotel for my stay. What. The. Heck. Do hotel ratings in Italy have different standards? Absolutely unacceptable! Oh, and restaurant is overpriced, they charge you 4 euros for a tiny water bottle. Would never come back, do not recommend.

We chose this hotel as it is a category 6 in the SLH collection. We were very surprised by the condition of the hotel. The rooms were small, which didn’t bother us much, but felt well used and in need of upgrades with bedding and decor. The jacuzzi tub/shower didn’t drain and felt unsanitary (and why would you ever put a jacuzzi tub in a hotel room?? Disgusting), and the sink pipe leaked on the bathroom floor. Contrary to other reviews, we did feel like the staff was good. The repairs to the sink occurred quickly and we found service to be friendly. Bottom line for us, this could be a very nice hotel. Just needs some massive updates

We came to this hotel as all the other hotel was booked. We wanted to have a suite but unfortunately there was only a standard room. The first night the room air conditioning was noisy so we went to the reception to complaint and the next day it was repair. On our second night the air conditioning did not function and I let you imagine how terrible our night was. The last day we had booked the ferry to Capri and it took 20-25 minute for the porter to come and collect the luggage. Overall the service staff was very nice. I do not recommend the standard room…it looks like it was an office convert to a room. Unacceptable for the price we paid!

Grand Hotel Angiolieri is part of the Small Luxury Hotel chain and it is rated Category 6. As a Hyatt Globalist I’ve stayed at numerous SLH properties and Hyatt properties (Cat 6/7/8) which have all been impressive, except for Grand Hotel Angiolieri. The two-star rating for this hotel is based on the expectation of this property being an SLH and Category 6 property. Room for improvement: 1. Staff are there, but there is no real service – everything felt hard. I felt like staff performed to a minimum standard. Responses to questions were often just No, with no help / suggestions given. The only exception to service was the bar, where service was great. 2. The Suite we booked had no overhead shower. The shower in the bathtub with a handheld wand. 3. The Suite itself didn’t feel like a suite - it didn't feel clean, and I would describe as extremely basic. I’ve stayed in better standard rooms at a category 4 hotel. 4. The duvets are covered with sheets - I requested sheets for the duvets thinking housekeeping must have missed, but the hotel doesn't provide. This didn't feel hygenic to me. 5. The TV on the upper level is a hazard waiting to happen, it sits on a glass edge a floor up, a slight bump of the TV on route to the upstairs bathroom and it will crash down potentially onto another person. 6. There is a balcony with an amazing view, but I was informed the hotel policy is you can’t consume outside food on it. We had a long day out and planned to pick up a pizza and have it on the balcony, but hotel policy is not outside food it allowed. You can have “chocolates or a slice of pizza” but can’t order a full pizza – not sure where they draw the line. Weird policy, I haven’t seen hotels not allow you to eat food that you have purchased in your private hotel room 7. Pool has limited daybeds and were often full. 8. I asked hotel for assistance with transportation to NAP airport, but their rate was 2.5x the cost of the rate using an external company which I ended up using 9. The rooms are named, and no numbers are on them – no issue there, except when you go to breakfast on day #1 and don’t know your room number, you get treated like a criminal for not knowing the room number. 10. The hotel does not live up to the SLH brand At 779EUR per night, I felt the hotel missed the mark. Onto the positives – the view is amazing, and the pool is great. Breakfast is amazing, but the service there is not so great. Bar area is great, great service, great views. There is also a walking track down a steep hill to get to restaurants, and a free shuttle that can pick you up, so you don’t need to walk up the hill at night – however only 8 seats on the bus so you need to book your spot. My key recommendation to this hotel is to learn from Hotel Romeo a SLH category 7 property just up the road in Naples and compare against its self – they are worlds apart in all aspects. My review of their property: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187785-d1226645-r850955072-ROMEO_Hotel-Naples_Province_of_Naples_Campania.html If you are looking for an SLH or category 6 experience, this is not the hotel to come to.

We have just had a two night stay, to rest after a busy few weeks, we travelled from Rome to the hotel. From the minute we arrived, we met smiling happy staff, the hotel was immaculate and the service was outstanding.

Travelled here with 11 others to celebrate a friend's birthday. The hotel was just wonderful. Booked after reading loads of reviews and it was everything we could have hoped for. Location is fantastic - spectacular views and sunsets from the pool, the bar terraces and the restaurant terrace. Breakfast was the highlight of the day - it is plentiful, varied, comes with Prosecco (what's not to like!) and complemented by the fabulous views out to sea. Rooms are lovely, not large. Downstairs rooms have terraces which are a nice addition. Highly recommend and the consensus in our party was a we would all visit again.

Had a wonderful 2 night stay in September as part of our honeymoon. Beautiful location and rooms along with wonderfully attentive staff. We didn’t have dinner at the hotel mainly due to the fantastic little restaurant at the end of the lane by the hotel, which is well worth visiting if you stay at the hotel. A great rooftop jacuzzi and relax area with views of the bay was a nice extra.

We chose this hotel at the recomendation of our son who had stayed 4 years ago and loved it. We have travelled extensively by car around Europe the last 20 years, staying at 4* and 5* hotels and this is one the best hotels we have stayed. The fotos at their site do not make it justice, the rooms are much prettier. We booked a superior room with sea view, the view was worth the extra cost. It was quite comfortable and the clever arrangement of furniture made it look quite spacious. The bathroom had a jakuzzi, but I liked to sit at the verandas so I did not have time to use it. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the veranda watching the sea and Naples. There was no buffet due to covid measures, so they brought bread, croissant, cheese and sweets at the table and we could pick warm food (eggs etc.) from the menu. Delicious. We had lunch at the bar veranda, under the blossoming boucemvilliae and dinner at both of their resaurants. Excellent. Staff was very polite and friendly and service was quick and efficient. The garden, although small, is most interesting to roam around. We spent a nice time at the swimming pool. It is rather small, I do not know how it is when there are plenty of quests there. The sea is 115 steps below and I found it rather uninviting. The village around the hotel is worth a stroll. We had a car so we did not depend on local transportation. Sorrento, Costa Amalfitana, Pompei and Naples are not far away. If again in the area, we will definatelly stay here again.
