We had our wedding planned at Finca Monasterio last summer. We had exclusivity of the hotel, which has around 30 rooms, for 3 nights and had planned to do our ceremony and reception in their beautiful gardens one of the days, followed by a pool party with bbq the day after. We loved the fact we could have all our guests stay in the venue with us for a full weekend of celebrations. I looked for ages for wedding venue along the Costa Del Sol, but Finca Monasterio was the only one that ticked all our boxes - traditional Spanish feel with beautiful gardens and a pool, exclusive use of the venue for a weekend with our guests able to stay with us, and importantly at a good price point.

The final thing that sold this venue to us was dealing with Emily, their in-house wedding co-ordinator. I cannot thank her enough for all her help in organising our wedding, she made the process fun, was incredibly responsive to all our questions and needs, and really helped us in planning the day and think about things that we hadn't thought of before. They were very flexible and willing to accommodate all our plans/ideas which we loved.

When Covid struck we had to move our wedding and Emily made this process incredibly easy for us. Sadly we were unable to go ahead with our wedding in the end due to personal circumstances, but I am sure we would have had a perfect day at Finca Monasterio. I cannot recommend this venue enough and what a pleasure it has been to deal with them.

Having been visiting Sotogrande for 20 years I was pleasantly surprised to unexpectedly come across this special place. Set at the foot of the coastline hills the converted Finca is a refreshing change from the modern development of Sotogrande and the Port.

A charming mixture of old and new combined with an enormous enchanting pool, a large events salon and a professional level gym onsite, Finca Monasterio provides a 5 star service in a relaxed and picturesque setting only 15 minutes from the Port and 10 minutes from the motorway.

Due to Coronavirus restrictions only recently starting to lift, the Hotel has not been in full action but is now ready again to welcome guests and is an ideal place for a post-quarantine get away.

On top of the newly renovated accommodation, Sauna, Spa area and Library, I enjoyed taking in the beautiful original features of the old Monastery and also adventuring out into the surrounding hills and towns on the complementary Hotel bikes. A rather ambitious bike ride led me to Castillo de la Frontera - a stunning Castle on top of a lakeside hill with views as far as Gibraltar - quite a challenge on bike but close via car to the hotel and another wonderful surprise relatively unknown close to Sotogrande.

All in all probably now one of my favourite places within Sotogrande. Thank you to Denis and his team for a great 10 days!

How to put into words how incredible Finca Monasterio and the team are… we recently got married here and from the moment we made our initial enquiry through our big day everything was amazing! We had 45 guests join us and stayed for 5 days. Emily was always available to speak, go through the finer details and ensured our wedding went perfectly. The venue itself is perfect, romantic, beautiful and elegant. The service from every single person was friendly and helpful, the food was amazing, pricing great value and every single person who stayed for our wedding across 5 days said they had the most amazing time. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect wedding and stay and a huge thank you to everyone who made our celebrations so magical and beyond anything we ever could have expected. No review will ever do our experience justice, if you’re thinking of having your wedding here or staying for a holiday, don’t think, just do it!

I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Monasterio for a family wedding (room 30).

I have to state that I was very disappointed with the room size as it was quite a small tight room, having the bed against the wall meant I had to literally jump into bed and for the price we paid €133 a night it is not the sort of room I was expecting.

But what we are very annoyed with is the fact that we had no working TV for our entire stay even though this issue was reported as soon as we arrived and then every day since arrival but still no one came up with a solution to sort this out. I also have to bring up the fact that your wifi is actually non existent even though you advertise on your website as having wifi, this meant that our entire stay was without TV and wifi for our use and comfort whilst not at any of the family gatherings.

The maintenance of certain areas on the hotel grounds seem to be lacking in such a beautiful setting and the pool area with limited sunbeds (some were broken and missing the sunbed mat) and an unclean pool with dead insects floating around is not conducive of a completely relaxing stay.

Although we had these issues we did enjoy the family wedding and the staff was very welcoming although unable to sort out these issues which has left us disappointed with the overall experience.

We had our wedding at Finca Monasterio in September 2023. It was the wedding of our dreams and everything was amazing from start to finish. From our first visit, to booking, to all of of the planning and the weekend itself it was just a dream. The venue is perfect, traditionally Spanish and had everything and more we could have wanted. Having full exclusivity of the venue and all of our friends and family with us over the course of 3 days was incredible.

All areas of the venue are beautiful. We loved having all the different parts of our wedding in different areas of the venue. The courtyard, the area's around the swimming pool, the lights and the evening in the pavilion just made for constant changes of scenery for all our guests. The rooms are large and clean. The food was great throughout our entire 3 day stay.

Emily and all the staff at the Finca truly made it an unforgettable experience. They couldn't do enough for us and all of our guests, and made sure everything ran smoothly on not only the wedding day but also the evening before and in the mornings! Nothing was a big deal and any extra asks we had were easily catered for. The relaxed approach to the wedding was everything we needed for our destination wedding.

Could not recommend enough having your wedding at this venue, it was everything we had hoped for and more. Such great value compared to other venues further up the coast closer to Marbella and great for us an a couple in the UK planning everything from afar. They could host a wedding tomorrow, they have everything you could need and more! 11/10 experience and wish we could do it all again!

Wow!! Simply Wow!!
What an absolutely amazing retreat for a wedding. My partner and I have just returned from the most amazing long weekend staying at The Finca Monasterio.
Run so professionally by Sean, Orla and their team, we were made to feel special from the moment we checked in. The wedding itself was seamlessly run with no staff in your face but quietly tending to everyone’s needs without being seen. Now that’s an art in itself.
The venue is stunning and what was organised was the most fun with best people! Thank you so much to Molly and Alex as I know just how hard it is to get everything right and you nailed it! Even down to the weather ☀️

Arrived here for a wedding but didn't stay here. The venue is great, and the staff ,with one exception, were completely on the ball. Very organised venue and professional. The frogs at night time sound fab.
Overall, it was a lovely experience

We spent a weekend at the Hotel Monasterio de San Martin. What a great little secret, set among the beautiful Cadiz countryside. What tasteful furnishings with attention to all matter of details a real gem, a real monastry with peace and tranquility included. The restaurant has a great menu and exquisite plates. Well worth the visit.

Arrived at 6 PM in the middle of a noisy karaoke party for a group on country side people not cliengs of the hotel. Nobody at the reception. Rooms are dark and furniture terrible. Batroom in very poor condition, rusty. We stay only one of the two nights reservation but we were charged for the two nights athough the hotel was empty. Whatever bar or cafeteria in the village serves a better breakfast that the Monasterio's.

We visited this Hotel as a potential venue for our wedding in June 2020. This was our top choice based on photos and reviews we’d seen previously. When contacting the events manager/wedding planner (who we unfortunately can’t name(you know who you are!)) To discuss our weekend wedding were asked if we wanted a room booked for us. We responded saying yes but asked how much the room was. We got no response so presumed it was a gesture to sweeten the deal for us to book the wedding there. When we arrived at the hotel no credit card details were taken for us or put on record and were told ‘you’ve been upgraded to a suite’. Again, we presumed this was complementary due to the lack of information on price and the forthcoming upgrade. I’m sure you can see where this is going...that’s right, when we were set to leave we were asked to pay for the room and the dinner we had the night before (we chose to eat here to pay back for the perceived complimentary room). When I questioned this considering I asked for the costs prior to arriving I was told by the receptionist that she couldn’t leave her shift which finished in 10 minutes before I paid and to take it up with the manager.
I phoned and emailed the manager who didn’t respond until we were at the airport. I was told that complementary nights aren’t offered but would take the room cost off the wedding cost if we end up booking through them (sorry but the trust had already gone) and that she hadn’t received my email requesting the price of the room. I proceeded to forward the aforementioned email. She also told me that ‘credit card details are not taken on check in because they trust their guests to pay on checking out’. I must say I’ve never known of this anywhere else, maybe things are done differently in Spain!?
We stayed out of peak season and there were a maximum of 10 other guests so I would have thought they could have spared the room to help us choose it as our wedding venue and spend 10s of thousands rather than the £300 they scammed us out of.

It wasn’t just the lack of transparency surrounding the room that spoiled our trip, we were also incredibly disappointed with the venue itself for the following reasons:
The ‘suite’ was extremely basic with a serious need for redecorating.
The internet didn’t work and there were a number of electrical faults including loose wiring to the hairdryer. Not great in a damp environment.
The bathroom was dirty with loose fittings all over the place.
Furthermore and quite randomly there is a swastika etched in a tile leading to the bathroom!?
The pool area was underwhelming with a mishmash of loungers which looked like they’d been cobbled together to fulfil the need for deckchairs. There was no staff presence at the pool and so ordering drinks etc was impossible.
Food was average and no menus were available so we were given a choice of three mains. I can imagine these would have become tedious after a few nights unless they completely change the menu daily.

Our parting comment is that we would avoid booking a wedding with this venue considering they can’t be trusted and judging by the quality of the ‘suite’ I can’t imagine that the standard rooms are great. Judging by one of the other most recent reviews about a ‘disappointed’ bride I’m glad we have booked somewhere else and we’re really sorry to see that Finca Monasterio had the opportunity to spoil a couple’s special day. Please learn from their and our comments and avoid this dishonest and slack management!
