I arrived at the hotel on the recommendation of a competitor in the village who said, (after phoning ahead to check for room availability) that I would not be disappointed... and I certainly wasn't!! A few previous reviews seem to be slating this hotel for no other reason than they think they are on that awful Four in a Bed...

Looked very nice on the website the reality was pretty terrible. The room was very tired the cupboard a hanger over the kettle! The ensuite was awful the basin was cracked the lino on the floor torn and dirty and the shower was a dribble. We could have just about stuck that out but for the fact it was the...

Popped in for lunch with hubby and 2 kids, menu was adequate plenty to choose from, typical pub grub which is what we were after. Kids both went for macaroni cheese with garlic breads off the kids menu, were a decent size and kids said it was delicious, they cleared their plates. Hubby had the gammon which was lovely and...

This is first and foremost a local pub with a nice looking restaurant that serves slightly overpriced food that is very tasty. Dawn the host could not be more welcoming and helpful and the same can be said for her staff. However the accommodation up stairs does not match the restaurant down stairs. On approach the stair carpet is dangerously...

I am pleased that you enjoyed the warm welcome we always provide here at the Duke's Head. We also pride ourselves in looking after our visitors well and going the extra mile, such as offering yourself lifts around the local area. On the décor, the downstairs has had the benefit of a refurbishment in recent times and we are often...

Sandwiches and drinks overpriced, not particularly value for money, had to wait quite a while for 2 sandwiches even when pub was empty. Would advise the owners to review their prices for food and drink if wanting to establish themselves as quality and value for Monet (2 small cokes and 1. Lime/soda =£5-50!)

Decided to give Dukes Head another chance and called in early evening to treat friends to a meal. Pleasant ambience in the lounge area with real fire. Friendly service. Were told lasagne came with salad - it didn't after all and we were charged extra. Fair enough for the waitress to make a mistake with lack of product knowledge -...

I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your meal. It has took me a few days to respond as I have been talking with all staff members to find out why there was no salad sent out with the Lasagne. There was an occasion recently when a lady asked for no salad and to have chips...

I reviewed the Dukes Head in April and I was less than complimentary but I visited again and I was very pleased with what I found. I had a lovely Sunday roast, well cooked and presented. The difference from my last visit was amazing. I would highly recommend eating here.

Fantastic meal at the Dukes. Table of 5 which each of us selecting a different choice. All were superb. Food was nicely presented with more than ample portion size. Only one dessert ordered and again we were not disappointed. Chocolate brownie with white chocolate ganache and cream. Mmmmm.

We called into the Dukes early one Saturday night The menu was refreshing and had something for everyone. Our food was delicious, but after paying the bill we noticed that we had been charged £3 per glass of lemonade for the kids. Their drinks exceeded the price of the alcoholic ones! This left a bitter taste and we have not...

Walked here for a late Sunday lunch from Englethwaite Caravan Site. There were only a few people in but we had the choice of restaurant, bar or outside. We decided to go for a roast (pork) and each got an enormous portion of tender, moist meat with a selection of fresh vegetables . On thinking back it would have been...

“Ours was Room 5, with en suite shower room. It was very comfortable, spotlessly clean (like everywhere else in the hotel) with a 6ft bed and plenty of clothes storage. There was an extra blanket in the wardrobe, along with a hot/cold fan heater. Our room overlooked the road but was quiet. Rooms at the back would overlook the car park but there is a beer garden between the building and the car park. We didn't hear anything from about 10:30pm till 7:45am.”
