In short a lovely place with very nice staff.
We had a newly refurbished room which had a tasteful and striking feature wall papered with beautiful paper. The mattress seemed new and was very comfortable. The bedding was white cotton and the duvet was warm and cosy.
The wifi was brilliant and the lounge downstairs was a welcoming and relaxing space to sit.
We took our breakfasts on the restaurant on Christmas morning which was relaxed and festive. After a service at Brecon Cathedral and a walk, we arrived back to be greeted by Ade and Bryan with prosecco and canapes prior to Christmas lunch. The food was delicious and portions were generous (like the proprietors) .
On Christmas evening, platters of scrumptious cheese and biscuits and Christmas cake were left out for us with port and wines. Despite that fact that we more than full from breakfast and lunch, we were obliged to do them justice as we sat by the fire that night!
It was the first time that we had gone away for Christmas and I am thrilled to say that Bryan and Ade went out of their way to make it really special for us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas stay and would recommend this delightful Country Inn to all.
Thank you Bryan and Ade, you made it really special.

Under new ownership since the end of 2019, this inn is going through a renovation from the ground up.
The downstairs lounge, bar and restaurant is one of the best experiences you will experience anywhere in the world for the price. A good selection of wine, tasteful decor and a relaxing ambience. If you get to experience breakfast, you are in for a real treat of good tasting food with great presentation.
The upstairs rooms by the owner’s own admission need significant renovation and there are plans afoot to do so.
With or without the renovations to the rooms, you will enjoy your experience if you are staying overnight. And, you’ll love it if you are just visiting for a drink and/or a meal.
3 stars for the rooms (at the time of writing), with the promise of improvements to come and a 5 + for everything else brings the total score to 5. Good luck with your plans, guys. The hospitality industry needs people like you setting the benchmark.
The public sitting and dining areas were comfortable and very stylishly decorated. Bright and warm and enhanced with Christmas decorations and lights.
The staff were, without exception warm and welcoming and the food was delicious.
We were told that Christmas lunch will be 7 courses and quite a banquet so have a two night Christmas break!
Covid-wise, we felt safe as there was plenty of hand gel around with reminders to use and good spacing between the tables. The staff wore masks.
The owners are still in the process of renovating this lovely old house and judging by what they have achieved downstairs, it will be a truly lovely place to stay.
Highly recommended.
A warm welcome was received from the owners & staff.
We stayed in a very comfortable newly decorated room & enjoyed both a great evening meal and breakfast.
Gluten free options were explained in person by an enthusiastic and able chef who we were surprised to discover was the assistant, on duty for our night. An excellent evening meal.
The decor of the hotel is an eclectic mix of styles, which come together to provide a warm unique ambience. - This is not a bland, much duplicated chain hotel. We ate our breakfast under a chandelier hanging from the mouth of a two metre tall giraffe!
The location, on the edge of village of Sennybridge, is very good for exploring the Brecon Beacons.
It was great value for money. We would highly recommend a stay here if you want to have a warm , memorable experience!
The decor is wonderfully camp - artificial flowers garland the bar and drape the dining room. there is a black giraffe with a chandelier in its mouth, mirrors are where you least expect them, Dorothy's red sparkly slippers adorn a beam, complete with yearning green hands appearing from out of the wall.
The Ladies' is accessed through plum crushed velvet curtains and contains climbing roses up the walls, two very distressed washbasins, lots of lovely soap and hand towels.
The test of a good hotel is, to me, the Ladies, plus the fact that the are real table napkins, not tatty paper ones and the cutlery has real heft to it - you are not afraid it will snap if you put a bit of oomph into it!
All in all a smashing place with good food, interesting decor and charming hosts. We shall return!
We arrived at lunch time after a quick visit to a favourite garden centre and Brecon. On arrival we left our bags in the car, we were warmly greeted by Bryan (waiter) who without doubt has a warm friendly put you at ease personality that comes from many years doing a job he loves.
We decided to have a quick drink before going to the room. The White house is under new ownership who are putting their stamp on the place (as the saying goes), this stamp is not just furniture and decoration, there's an aura which is welcoming and relaxing.
Our quick drink turned into a few drinks and a light lunch, we forced ourselves to book into our room four hours later. we were shown to our room by Bryan the owner. Room 5 newly refurbished lovely room clean comfortable with their stamp (very much a nice stamp) wife fancied some of the furnishings the mirror the table.
We went out for a walk and explore found a nice little walk, if you walk toward Sennybridge about five minutes take first right you come to a bridge across a river go over the bridge there is a footpath on the left that follows the river on your left and Sennybridge camp on your right you can return this way or do the circle following the main road back to the White House.
We had booked a table for 6pm after having had lunch we skipped starter I had salmon fillet beautifully cooked and presented, the wife had chefs special a beef and guinness pie. Now the wife usually doesn't do pies so I am expecting to swap mains. Nathan the chefs special pies are so good I had a taste and she made sure it was only a small taste. I was determined to try a lemon posset it was perfect in taste and presentation.
Breakfast before check out we opted for continental which was lovely and again well presented.
We had the opportunity to speak with Bryan and Adrian two warm genuine friendly lovely people who we hope have every success in the White house country lounge as we will definitely be returning thank to you all for your genuine hospitality.
The owners of this hotel, along with the staff, are so friendly and amenable and friendly they go over and above to make your stay enjoyable. The ambiance and environment is relaxing. The decor is quirky and eclectic yet it really works. The owners of this hotel are working through each of the rooms to renovate them in turn. We stayed in an unrenovated room which was comfortable and clean. The have also recently employed a new chef. What a revaluation! If you get a chance to eat there, you won’t be disappointed as the food was exemplary as you might expect from high end dining at an unbelievably good value for money. The hotel is also dog friendly and our dog Flo was treated like a princess. All I can add is that the owners Bryan and Adrian deserve to make a success of this enterprise and we will definitely be coming back for more.
