Hello! Firstly, the hotelier takes a lot of pride in his establishment, thus you get good service and a clean room. I'd also like to say that the room I had had a fridge and a little kitchen and it was equipped with all the necessary utensils.
Now on to your location. It is about a 2 km walk to the main town, and maybe 1 km to the super market (straight walk no turns. exit hotel, turn right, walk.) Since the island is kind of big, and if your going on the "off" season (fall/winter) you might want to consider hiring a car. I guess you could get one from 25-30 euros per-day with unlimited km's.
