My husband and I and 18 others on a canoe trip in the Ardeche arrived on a rainy evening. The aroma from the kitchen was unbelievably wonderful! And the meal was even better - stew with chestnuts! My husband and I had a room in the old castle and it was spacious and comfortable with large windows.

This most charming castle in an isolated place in the Cévennes has been superbly restored, with much taste and love by the owners. Two of their sons have taken over the management. The one who manages the hotel is most pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable; the one who manages the meals is, and so is his wife, unwelcoming and unhelpful, responding... More

Wacht out: Le Cauvel is a bit tricky to find if you're using GPS. Make sure you have a map. It's located in a medieval castle, actually more of an fortified farmhouse, a little lower than the road and is somewhat hard to spot.
