The Holiday Inn Glasgow - East Kilbride garners applause for its vibrant atmosphere and immaculate premises, with the bar and lounge services frequently commended, though additional seating is suggested. While the amenities, including leisure facilities and varied dining, are well-received, guests have noted some aspects could benefit from refurbishment. The rooms are acknowledged for their comfort and spaciousness despite mixed feedback on upkeep. Service quality shines with its friendliness, albeit with occasional lapses. However, the hotel's value proposition is questioned, with criticisms of overpriced food and unforeseen charges.

Booked a non smoking room double bed with breakfast included using avios points 21000. Check in was 3 and only a short queue. Staff quick and helpful. Stayed on first floor overlooking rear car park. Room was clean with plenty of space bathroom was also clean with plenty of shower gels and towels. Used the swimming pool saunas and steam room changing area was ok needs some repairs to tiles but very good used before meal on Saturday and before checkout at 12.00 Sunday. Evening dining was OK we had nachos and toast with pate. The main meal was better had the fish with sides of onion rings and veg packora. In the bar it was very busy with a function on. The staff worked hard but hotel could have more staff on if they were available. Overall had a good overnights stay and would recomend hotel and facilites.

Stayed here many times in the past, unfortunately when you arrive the outside is looking tired with most of the cladding needing a coat of paint or two.
Usual friendly reception greeting but there is a problem ? the key card machine is not working so staff have to open the door for you, we are on the 3rd floor in the main suite and the staff cannot use the lift only the stairs, this situation remained the same for three days of our stay.
First impressions of our suite, no air con as there is no key card, room looked very tired with lots of stains on the carpet and the fabrics on the furniture, and there was a hole in our duvet cover, we had three types of pillows available in a cupboard so I decided to go for a softer version and removed the pillow case only to find the original pillow had a yellow tint stain mostly from facial oil and perspiration, glad I changed the pillow.
We found some of the internal doors within the suite had dirty hand marks on the edges, we always carry antiseptic wipes with us and cleaned the doors and also the tv remote control.
Breakfast was good but I found the staff wearing many hats either running reception, serving breakfast or working the bar, they were all pleasant and polite and over worked.
We did have a barking dog one afternoon which had to be reported to front desk, the owner said the dog was stressed from a long journey, I was not aware this is now a hotel for dogs
Overall this is a franchise hotel run by Kew Green Holdings Ltd, to all the Directors put your hands in your pockets and refurbish this hotel before it does go to the dogs, remember you are not giving the Holiday Inn name respect which it deserves.

Hi sport53uk, It was our pleasure to have you as our guest once again. I appreciate your praise for our team; they work very hard to ensure every guest enjoys a comfortable stay. I am sorry for the challenges you had with the general upkeep of the in-room amenities, cleanliness standards of the pillow, and noise levels. I assure you this is not up to our usual standards at all. I have shared your remarks with Hotel Management and the relevant team as a source to address the points you’ve raised. Your loyalty to our hotel brand is valued. We’d love to show our commitment to providing an exceptional lodging experience on your next visit. Warm regards, Zel N. Case Manager IHGService

The hotel is fine, not much in the local vicinity, nothing in walkable distance. Taxi to the main town East Kilbride (not Glasgow) is about £7 where there are restaurants and some bars, had a nice couple pints in the Motgomery pub, and then a great meal in the japanese restaurant which was excellent. Back to the hotel, friendly staff, breakfast time is from 7 AM and it is ready at 7 AM unlike some places i have stayed where you get to brekky at the opening time and there is nothing ready and then you have to wait, which is not good when you are on a skedule and have to get to work. Glasgow traffic was appaling 12 miles taking 30-50 mins, tons of roadworks and potholes. Had a few evening meals in the hotel, £24 for a sirloin steak, so hotel rates, quality of the food ok. prob cost more than in you could get elsewhere. Went into the gym pool and sauna all fine really, as expected. Only given 2 tea bags per day and 4 sugar sachets, so bring some tea bags if you drink lots of tea!!!

Very good price with excellent facilities. A bit far out from glasgow however you are only 5 minutes away from Busby train station which is an excellent service and very cheap. For the price you get a great room with very comfy beds, a pool, sauna and steam room. Have stayed here for the past 20 years when going to glasgow and always will! The price difference from the centre of glasgow is massive and worth it

This is a rather belated review, but work and other things have prevented men from writing a review till now. Through four weeks through April and into May 2020 I was working in Lanarkshire. I am a key worker and had accommodation at this hotel for the whole of my four weeks. The staff at the hotel did absolutely everything they could to make my stay as enjoyable, safe and comfortable as possible.

When I arrived there was hand sanitiser on a table by the door and a social distancing area between the reception desk and where you stand on arrival. Even the pens had been cleaned and different containers for unused and used pens. When I got to my room it was clean and tidy, and during my stay I discovered that after each guest stay the rooms were deep cleaned and sanitised before the next guest's arrival.

The restaurant was closed, but the kitchens were open for breakfast and evening meal. The menu was reduced, what was on offer was still reasonably varied. There was a well managed social distancing process in place for ordering and uplifting meals. Breakfast was ordered the evening before, and dinner in the evening you required it. The process involved receiving a telephone call from reception to inform you that your meal was ready and you going down to the reception hall and picking your meal up from a designated collection point, of which there were three. You then took your meal back to your room and, when finished placed the tray outside your room. There was never an occasion in which I was forced to break social distancing guidelines when collecting either my breakfast or dinner.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the staff at the hotel for their care and attention to detail in keeping all of us safe. Reception staff, kitchen staff, portering and night staff and domestic staff. They were all just amazing and nothing was a problem. I will be back again. Thanks

Lets start with the good points at least the room was there when we checked-in, ate in restaurant and was served by Mark who was very good and did a great job, food was okay for fish and chips but overpriced along with the drinks.

Our room 105 King Executive with breakfast, was tatty and poorly maintained, shower cubicle with black mold in corners, toilet roll holder dangling from wall, paint drips over the toilet floor and the door looked as if it was painted by the child of the apprentice.

In the main room scuffs on walls and a large crack on one of the walls. It is obvious that this room has never been checked properly but happy to let it out for a two day booking. To top it all we had a lovely view of the flyover, roof of the hotel and the sound of traffic in the morning to gently help us waken up.

As for breakfast it was slop as has been stated by other reviews probably the worst I have had in years, poached eggs were so poorly done it was criminal. I suppose we were luck to get any breakfast as we were late, but the lack of quality was shocking.

During checking in we were given a letter stating changes to procedures during covid restrictions, in this letter was revised breakfast times. In most hotels I have stayed in your are reminded of breakfast timings verbally as a courtesy, especially if it deviates from the website, we were not.

Will not be staying there again when visiting family, better options and value in other hotels.

Responded 19 Nov 2020
Dear MarvintheAndroid, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback through our various review channels. I am so sorry your stay did not live up to your expectations. I understand you were disappointed by the changes in breakfast times and that the selection is more limited than usual, with the full buffet being unavailable at this time. As South Lanarkshire is currently under Tier 3 restrictions (moving into Tier 4 Lockdown) and travel to the area for leisure purposes is not permitted, we are operating for the purposes of essential business travel and supporting key workers and as such the breakfast times and offerings have been temporarily revised to suit this purpose. I do, however, acknowledge that check in currently contains an overwhelming amount of information while we are required to share all of the restrictions and current way of operating with guests and so we do rely heavily on the Welcome Letter, which we urge guests to read, in order to reiterate all this so I am sorry the breakfast times were not verbally made more clear, either on check in or when Nathanael confirmed them for you on the first morning you arrived late. I really do understand how disappointing it is when you are looking for a relaxing break away and find the restrictions do not allow for this. Like you, we look forward hopefully and desperately to the day we can return to normal and once again offer a home away from home for leisure guests such as yourselves as well as the outstanding level of service our team remains so proud of. I have passed your comments regarding the quality of your breakfast to the Head Chef who is also sorry you felt let down. As you arrived 30 minutes after breakfast finished each day, he personally prepared your order fresh and checked your satisfaction each day himself and so was disappointed you felt unable to share your true feedback with him at the time, when he of course would have been more than happy to rectify it given the opportunity. Likewise, we are sorry you felt unable to share your feedback regarding your room with any of our friendly team at the time who, had they been given the opportunity, would have been delighted to assist in finding a solution you were happy with in line with our IHG Clean Promise which is displayed both in reception and on the Clean Promise card left by your room attendant or on the sticker on the bedroom mirror. All of our rooms are cleaned and sanitised to the highest standard using hospital grade disinfectant and are hygienic, clean and safe, however, we know it is possible that sometimes something is missed and when some such thing is brought to our attention our guarantee to you is that we will do whatever it takes to make it right. I am sorry you felt unable to take us up on this offer during any of your interactions with the team. I have passed your feedback about the paintwork to our Maintenance Manager and generally to our Head Housekeeper who will immediately review the room in question and we thank you for bringing it to our attention. Should you wish to discuss any aspect of your stay further we are always grateful for the opportunity to improve so please feel free to contact me personally via the hotel at any time. I am very sorry to hear we will not be given the opportunity to welcome you again but none the less hope on your next visit to the area that restrictions have lifted and you can enjoy all the wonderful things East Kilbride has to offer. With warmest regards, Clare Sheppard Guest Service Manager

This hotel is in a filthy, dirty and awful condition. I have stayed in many Holiday Inn's but this is by far the worst. I took my family here thinking the Holiday Inn represents a minimum level of quality but this was appalling.

Upon arrival the outside of the hotel was scruffy and appeared run down. We were then greed by a guy on the front desk who appeared totally disinterested and told us nothing about the facilities or hotel. We were given an "executive room" and the complaint is mainly about the cleanliness and safety of the room. In short the room was disgusting. Thick with dust, a rusty broken bin, vomit stains all over the carpet, cigarette burns on the pillows, stains all over furniture an absolutely disgusting state. It appears like this hotel is being allowed to go downhill and no one seems to notice nor care.

On the safety front there are bumps in the wall which may be a sign of asbestos (we will report this to the health and safety executive) and also for a family room the wide opening window means a child could easily crawl out and fall.

As a regular and loyal customer of Holiday Inn I was appalled by the state of this property and did wished I did not bring my family here. Whoever owns the franchise here does not deserve to use the Holiday Inn brand and I strongly recommend that IHG investigate this property.

I feel robbed for what I paid for this absolute dump.

We stayed here for one night en route to Oban and would hesitate to ever stay here again. The staff were great but did not make up for the dirty state of the room. I was staying in an accessible room and the guest before me had obviously had a white haired dog with them (this was confirmed by the staff). The carpet was covered with clumps of dog hair which transferred to everything - my clothing, the bedding etc. There were cobwebs in the corners of the room, the surfaces were dirty and there was no shower seat in the wet room shower, although one was provided when requested. The cost of the evening meal was far too expensive, as was the breakfast. As platinum members we have stayed in many, many Holiday Inns and this is one of the most expensive.

We checked in and went to our two rooms - both of which were the wrong configuration and wouldn’t fit the amount of us staying. The manager then tried to move us into one family room despite paying for two separate rooms?
After being moved into new rooms with the correct setup we were told the sofa bed would be made up (as it should’ve been done for arrival) at some point in the day - after waiting until 8pm with no one coming to do it, I went down to reception.
The room itself had an in emptied bin, and the headboard was covered in dust which fell onto the pillows.
All of these issues on their own, and rectified by the hotel, would’ve been fine as I understand mistakes happen, but for them all to happen and take multiple attempts to be rectified, I find this unacceptable.
The duty manager I spoke to refunded the charge for one of the rooms, which is appreciated.

The following morning we went down to breakfast, at 9:30am, there was a very little selection of foods left, with none of it being refreshed so myself and other guests were left without. No plates, no glasses, no orange juice. The waiting staff were lovely but the management of the operation is what I would assume to be the issue.

And then after giving the bar/restaurant one more chance we ordered a portion of chips as a snack in the empty bar, and waited 45 minutes for them to arrive.

The hotel is advertised as 4 stars, with a broken radiator, splits in the wallpaper, and a bin that wasn’t emptied from the previous guests - I would challenge this.

I appreciate the compensation given by the hotel, but I’ve posted this to let other potential guests know the issues we’ve experienced, and that I would avoid this hotel if possible, as it isn’t the cheapest, and for the product received, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the price. We’ve visited this hotel frequently over the course of 10 or so years, but now unfortunately won’t be back.

On a positive note though, the two female staff I spoke with at reception today were lovely and helpful, as were all the housekeeping staff I passed in the corridors.

I am not sure if dogs are allowed in the hotel buildings because I don't own a dog myself. There are lots of fast food places near the area which are about a 5 minute drive. You'll get the usual places like Mcdonalds and KFC. I am not sure if there are any pubs around. You need to check with the staff at the hotel.

Hi, if it's the Pot Still in Glasgow your refer ing to then it's about 9 miles away from the hotel. The transport links are very good. You can get a bus right outside the hotel or you can catch a train. The train station is about 30min walk or 10min by car from the hotel. I would recommend the train as the bus will take the long route through the town before getting to Glasgow city centre. If there are a group of you heading in then a taxi is also an option, if you split the fare it will roughly work out the price of a train ticket anyway. Hope this helps.
