In August 2016, I made my second trip to BI and my biggest mistake - staying at the 1661. It sounded good - a room with an ocean view, a renovated bath, and a daily champagne breakfast. Let's take them in order. First, my terrace with the ocean view had some outdoor furniture that was probably brought to America by...

I stayed in The Dodge Cottage, a few blocks away from the main inn. It is a very old, run down property, desperately in need of renovations. Very expensive for a run down room with no AC. They did have two fans in my room but the fans were old and also needed to be replaced. They were of no...

This hotel is a 20 minute walk from the town center but light-years away from the tourist hoards. Your view includes a cute beach, three marinas with places to eat, and lots of boats. Bike and kayak rentals, a marine-life center, and a public boat launch are across the street. Accommodations are super simple, with bath and toilet down the...

I've been going to the 1661 and their various properties around the island for years. (Note: I sure do miss the Smuggler's Cove apartments... but I digress.) But this time, something was different. The 1661 has stepped up their game, and is now a bit more elegant, while still maintaining that small, family-owned Inn feeling. The new lobby furniture and...

After many years having Breakfast at the 1661's terrific buffet, I came to making reservations for a short 2 night stay for the first time in the many years of traveling to Block Island. We could not be happier with everything 1661 had to offer. All the attending staff was outstanding. Always accommodating and pleasant. Rita is the penultimate host...

We stayed four nights, in two different rooms in the 1661 Inn itself (not in one of the guest houses). At the time we made our reservation, there wasn't the room size we needed available for four consecutive nights, but it wasn't a big deal--the staff even moved our bags to the new room while we were out for the...

We had the opportunity to stay in the Arthur Rose room, which was stunning! We were able to take advantage of a last-minute cancellation and had a Mother & Daughter getaway on Friday, August 19th. Such a beautiful room with meadow and ocean views, king-size bed and sofabed, beach stone fireplace, gorgeous bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and TWO rainforest showers!...

This is our 2nd year visiting Block Island and staying at the 1661 inn. Once again it did not disappoint. The rooms are immaculate and the staff is top notch. They are very friendly and extremely accommodating. The breakfast is outstanding.

We were very lucky to get a room last minute. Our room was in the annex (?), so it was quite small but serviceable. There were two shared bathrooms which were very clean and not in high demand. The rate included a buffet breakfast which was excellent and enhanced by the ocean views and the attentive server. The location is...

We only stayed one night at the Inn (Most places insisted on a two night minimum which we could not do). It was lovely, room was neat and clean. We were surprised by the complementary afternoon appetizers and wine which was perfect sitting on that beautiful patio with the view of the ocean. We loved the breakfast which was also...
