The Hotel Hofwirt has a long tradition of hospitality – in fact it has been welcoming guests since 1603. This listed baroque building was lovingly renovated in 2013, with a particular emphasis on the magnificent original stucco ceilings. Today, it has seven luxurious suites, a ballroom for up to 200 people, three lounges, two elegant sun terraces, an exquisite wine cellar, a new children’s playground, and a gazebo for champagne receptions. The hotel is a work of art for living in, combining historic architecture with contemporary comfort.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
A beautiful hotel in an even more beautiful area. Unfortunately, with such a high room price, I look even more closely and therefore feel that there is definitely room for improvement. The rooms are beautifully furnished and comfortable. We were also positively surprised by the electric charging station. The breakfast was good, you get a platter served here and can order drinks and egg dishes to go with it. I was surprised that there was no WiFi in the room.

My wife and I stopped for lunch near the Benedicitne monastery in Seckau. The hotel is beautifully restored, we ate out under the trees. I had nut crusted pink fried venison on creamy sweet potato paste with Brussels sprouts. We have had many fine meals all over the world but this dish was the best I. Have ever tasted. The creamy sweet potato was unbelievable. I would love to know the recipe. It's a bit hard to find, but well worth the effort.

We enjoyed our stay at Hofwirt hotel very much. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was very tasty and the portions were agreeably big. There was something wrong with our dinner, but staff reacted professionally and apologized and treated us to a dessert. We left with a very good impression also about the rooms, which were spacious, clean and very comfortable. Only they could have been heated a bit more because it was already quite cold outside. Breakfast is served, and very varied since you can order whatever you like from the menu. Staff generally is very friendly and professional, they treated us kindly and politely. We also enjoyed the small treats in our room and the gifts we got at check-out. We can highly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant.

We have regularly gone back to Seckau as family buried there and often taken friends who would not normally roam off the tourist main roads or cities. All are amazed how peaceful and picturesque the hotel (built in 1603) and heavily renovated by Red Bull in recent years. The 800 year old Abbey is 200 metres away and a walk up into the forest is a must. Tim and other staff members are friendly and professional.

This is a review of the restaurant, not the hotel.
You would not expect a restaurant of very good quality in this area, which is normally dominated by rural places to have a beer with your neighbors and to discuss events in the village.
However, the Hofwirt had the luck to be renovated and revived as part of Red Bull's "Projekt Spielberg", an initiative to finally do something for the region.
So the restaurant is in impeccable condition and ready to fulfill high expectations without losing its cozy appeal. The menu is not large, but features a range of down-to-earth as well as upmarket dishes. The vegetarian selection could be expanded, but the very friendly staff does everything to help you, and the kitchen is all too happy to modify their dishes.

If it had not been for a family with two loud and nasty little kids, we would have a wonderful experience celebrating my parents' 40th wedding day. I loved my pasta with fresh forest mushrooms, my sister had a beautiful river fish, and my parents went for something very robust and meaty (maybe to gain some strength for additional decades of marriage). Accompanying drinks were also very good.
Now I don't mind kids too much as long as they are well behaved, but my patience ends when they kick & scream & run around for more than an hour without a word from their parents. Finally one of them peed on the newly upholstered seat cushions - something the personnel treated with admirable composure and friendliness. But this really made me wish that some parents would stick with McDonalds instead of spoiling an otherwise great restaurant experience!
