Although we did not stay the night here, we did have lunch in the restaurant. The staff were just so friendly and created a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend the set Touristic menu... It was a great deal with three courses, a wine, coffee or tea. I had the chicken and it was just such lovely flavour, coming with rice and salad. I could have eaten it all day
The rooms are very weak with bathrooms with damaged parts, and could be better cleaning. The breakfast without variety and weak. Only the price is suitable . No night reception from 1 am . Definitely not a place to return.
Few nights ago, strike in Portuguese railways left me and a friend on a train station near Alcobaca with no possibility of getting back to Lisbon. It was 10pm, The owners were very helpful, kind and understood our situation. The lady even showed us the room before we took it. The pension is a decent place at the very best position, facing the Alcobaca monastery. Room was basic, bathroom renovated, everything was clean and tidy, better than some starred-hotels I stayed in. Can't say about food, since we got out too early to catch the early bus back, but since they also run a restaurant, I guess it can't be bad. The owner speaks very good English, and you won't have a problem with understanding. In short, recommended for staying, they are someone you would count on in case something goes wrong.…
I stayed here with a friend for one night in July, we booked through the tourist office in another town and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, as a guidebook had said it was only average. The pensao is a stone's throw from the monastery, the main attraction in Alcobaca, and about 10 minutes' walk from the bus station. It's also near several cafes and restaurants. Our twin room was clean, neat and had everything we needed for a good night's sleep. The sheets and towels also had two intertwined hearts (after the pensao's name) embroidered onto them, which I thought was a sweet touch! There was a TV that picked up some English channels, and the ensuite bathroom was modern. Breakfast could have been bigger - hot drink & bread rolls. But the jam was home-made! Also, the girl who seemed to be in charge spoke excellent English, and the same people run the restaurant below the pensao, although we tried another one across the street. I thought it was good value, well-located accomodation and would happily stay here again.…
