We arrived at this Lodge via a speedboat, the room was lovey and surrounded by Forest. We saw wild pigs and even a beautiful Paradise Snake. We noticed Elephant footprints close to the board walk, Elephants had come close to the lodge one week previous. Grounds were lovely with a Multitude of bright flowers.

Spent two nights here in the jungle - wonderful. Comfortable accommodation although pretty basic as it is the jungle (ironically there is phone reception from a nearby mast!). During our stay we took advantage of the circular boardwalk into the jungle around the accommodation site which has bird watching towers at intervals. Also we did a guided nightwalk along it too - spooky! The highlight for me was the river safaris - three in total. We saw such a lot of nature including orangutan, proboscis monkeys, longtailed macaques, crocodiles, a herd of pygmy elephants, otters, kingfishers, hornbills, herons, sandpipers and even fireflies. Food was OK and buffet style. Alcohol relatively inexpensive. We had lunch one day across the river in a village house with a local family - eyeopening!

Stayed 2 nights here as part of a tour down the Kinabatangan River. Service was outstanding. Food was great. Tours were brilliant and we were so lucky to spot an orangutan only a few metres away thanks to our awesome guide Eric! Highly recommend this lodge and our guide.

Our stay at the Abai Jungle Lodge was memorable, and will stay in our memories forever. A surreal experience that I cannot recommend highly enough. We were met at Kota Kinabalu airport by ‘Zaimi’, who was our personal guide throughout the duration of our stay. And, I cannot compliment him enough for his knowledge, humour and overall professionalism from start to finish. He and Along, the skipper of the boat took us on several boat journeys along the Kinabatangan river to spot Crocodiles, Proboscis Monkeys, long tailed Macaques, Kingfishers, amongst others. Zaimi also took us to have lunch with the local villagers along the Kinatangan river, which was life experience never to be forgotten. And, what lovely, humbling people they all were. The lodge itself has boardwalks surrounding the area, and you regularly spot the local family of wild boars roaming around, under the boardwalks and under the individual lodges during the day. Along with monkeys and local wildlife. The staff of the lodge could not be more polite and courteous, and the food was delicious and plentiful. Overall, I would not hesitate in recommending anyone to spend some time at this wonderful place. I would like to thank Along, the skipper, who could manoeuvre a boat in a bath, and a very special thanks again to Zaimi, who was an absolute gentlemen throughout our stay. Saying goodbye to him at the airport was like saying goodbye to a long lost friend. And, we will never forget our experience. So, thank you Zaimi...and thank you Abai Lodge. Hopefully, one day, we will return.

This resort is very simple but does have air conditioning in some rooms which are spacious and very clean. The animal tours are excellent- on a 2 night stay we did 3 boat tours on all of which we spotted proboscis monkeys, wild Orang Utan, lots of birds and crocodiles. Our guide was very knowledgable and the boat captains very skilled. We had one trip with monsoon-like rain but the lodge provided us with umbrellas. Really loved our stay. The food was very simple with no choice (set meal) but was freshly cooked if a little cool for our taste. Lovely staff and resident wild pigs which were highly amusing.
