Track & Trail River Camp is a privately owned lodge located on a stunning spot on the banks of the Luangwa, just at the doorsteps of the South Luangwa National Park. We offer a small owner run safari lodge, specialized in photographic safaris and offer our guests all the comforts, while being located in wilderness. South Luangwa is known for exceptional up-close game viewing. Our Safari Camp is small and quaint with 10 Chalets & 3 ensuite safari tents; 6 cater for families as well as singles and couples and 7 rooms offer scenic river front with a direct view of the National Park. Benefit from our expertise and professionalism; our innovation and creativity; unparalleled location and setting (next to the main gate of the South Luangwa National Park); great service to guests. Our lodge can be considered as the premier photographic lodge in The Luangwa Valley. Why?... because we have the knowledge and we can help our guests to improve their photography skills in the bush.

Located just 5 minutes drive from the National Park main gate, Track & Trail River Camp was the perfect location for our safaris into the South Luangwa Valley. Peter and Chichi are very friendly and professional hosts and the food their chefs produced was the highest quality we experienced in all our time in Zambia. All staff were friendly and helpful, with special mention to Kenan, Eric and Inok. Our Chalet was very comfortable and spacious and the community swimming pool was very much appreciated in the hot weather we experienced. Peter was very helpful with my photography in the 3 days we spent with he and Andrew (Stevie Wonder) our spotter. We will definitely return to Track & Trail.

We started planning our safari almost four years ago, and with Peters help, originally settled on a three location break, with Track & Trail dealing with the additional lodge bookings and the internal flights for us, making the whole planning very easy. Unfortunately COVID intervened and after cancelling the international flights twice, and simplifying the schedule we finally arrived in Mfwue in August 2022. This was our first safari, and in fact our first trip to Africa. We were not disappointed!!
Track & Trail are ideally located, just a few minutes from the entrance to the national park, and on most occasions, we were the first vehicle in, avoiding the dust and able to get an early view of the animals. I have no previous experience of such safaris, or different national parks in Africa, but I can say that South Luangwa has set the bar extremely high! Animal sightings were plentiful and with the benefit of Peter or his team of guides & ‘spotters’, we were treated to a range of animal & bird sightings, informative explanations of animal behavior or photographic techniques culminating in a wonderful and memorable experience! While the big cats and elephants are impressive, we were also shown some of the smaller African wildlife and an abundance of stunning birdlife. This is a company which cares about the whole of African wildlife and not just the big game.
As for the camp itself, it is ideally located and very comfortable. Peter’s wife Chichi, and all the staff made us feel very welcome and relaxed. We were gratefully upgraded to the “honey moon” chalet, which was very spacious and comfortable. The food was delightful and the staff constantly helpful and welcoming.
Whether you are an avid photographer or simply wish to see the wildlife through your own eyes, I have no hesitation in recommending Track & Trail and Peter Geraerdts and his team.
Many thanks Peter for a truly memorable experience.

After a long journey, we arrived at this beautiful camp on November 29 at half past seven in the evening!
The atmosphere immediately felt good and the dinner was excellent.
We enjoyed a beautiful location for a week, a lodge on the Luanga River, excellent food, very friendly staff, a fantastic guide/photographer with whom we were able to capture beautiful photos, an enthusiastic hostess and an incredibly green environment. In short, a very successful visit to the Track and Trail River Camp.
We hope to see you next time.

We stayed in the lodge for 4 nights and can recommend it! The location of the chalets on the South Luangwa River is fantastic, from the balcony, the terrace or the bar/restaurant area you have a great view of the river with all its fauna - I could sit there and watch for hours (to see everything well you need good binoculars!). The park entrance is close.
We really enjoyed the game drives with Vic in the early morning and in the afternoon and evening, the tea breaks and sundowners at spectacular viewing points. Unfortunately our vehicles had no supports for the cameras (although the lodge advertises photo safaris on the website) and no storage space for binoculars, lenses, water, sunscreen, repellent etc., and the benches were open at the back so that nothing could be put on the seats. The management then put a box in the car for us that we could use as a table, and Vic gave us a blanket that reduced the problem of the open backrest. Everyone made a lot of effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The food is fantastic!

Big praise for the kitchen! All the staff are very friendly.

We enjoyed our stay.

In July 2024 - after being there in 2023 - we will stay in T&T River Camp for another eight days. We are accommodated in one of the chalets on the bank of the Luangwa River with a magnificent view of the hippos, crocodiles, elephants and waterfowl that reside in, on and above it. The chalet is very clean, comfortable and insect free. On the grounds of T&T River Camp, forest bucks, hippos and elephants roam freely. That is why you will always be accompanied by your chalet to the restaurant and bar and brought back after dark. My wife, who walks less well, also receives this guidance during the day. Lunch and dinner are prepared daily with great variety and in an exquisite manner. Peter Geraerdts, the Owner of T&T River Camp, his wife and all the waiting and caring staff make continuous efforts to please all their guests. Every day we spend eight to nine hours on safari, including 1.5 to 2 hours in the dark, the period when animals that are mainly active at night show themselves.
In short: Track & Trail River Camp has proven to be the top location for us to visit South Luangwa Nat'l Park.

Outstanding service and experience!

Our group of 7 had the pleasure of experiencing Track & Trail River camp through the recommendation from Ryan at Socially Responsible Safaris @srsafaris.

From the time we arrived until we left the camp, we were treated exceptionally well. The warm greeting from owners Cece & Peter, to the staff smiles from Albert and others made us feel welcome and at home.

The accommodations were spacious, clean and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The rooms have fans and big nets over the beds to protect you from mosquitoes along with an incredible view of the river. Listening to the hippos snacking on grass outside your cabin was such a special experience. “Pinch me am I dreaming?” was a constant comment from our group during our stay.

The food is - WOW! We had a few in our group with a few food allergies and restrictions and the chef’s made sure that no detail was missed in providing exceptional options for all.

You feel safe and secure when sleeping as Pearson takes good care to ensure you are safe to your room each night with the open camp it’s exciting to hear what animals travelled through the camp at night.

Vic who was our safari guide was OUTSTANDING! We had many game drives from early morning to late evening and amongst our list we saw giraffe, elephant, hippos, buffalo, zebra, lion & 9 baby lion cubs to much much more! The open air land cruiser was covered to protect you from the sun as well as comfortable seating. He had rain coats when needed, blankets as well as delicious drinks and snacks for our break times.

I can’t say enough about our safari experience and look forward to visiting again!

Their rustic, thatched cottages set along the Luangwa River are beautifully apportioned and incredibly tidy. The South Luangwa gates are only a quick drive away making this lodge a great jumping off point to the Mfuwe Sector. Every day after our daily game drive in the park, we looked forward to the delicious meals that the talented kitchen staff had prepared for us. You will enjoy a real taste of Africa here.

We were fortunate to (finally, after 2 years of Covid delays) stay at this amazing camp very close to the Mfuwe entrance to South Luangwa National Park. We stayed in one of the river chalets which had an extremely comfortable large bed, two seating areas, a large shower, tub and view of the river from two large windows. The room had all the comforts of a luxury lodge and the food was of equally high quality with dishes which varied each day. Exceptionally high quality and levels of service. Chichi and the camp team were so attentive, welcoming and friendly - nothing was too much trouble and we really felt part of a family during our time there.

In terms of game drives, we had booked sole use of a vehicle with Peter as guide for a specialist photographic safari. Peter’s exceptional guiding and knowledge of the bush is enhanced by his photographic skills ensuring we were always in the best place for photographs as well as anticipating animal behaviour. We were able to stay with interesting sightings longer as well as learning some specific photographic techniques. Highlights of our time with Peter included multiple leopard sightings, wild dogs, elephants, over 130 different birds (casual viewing as opposed to concentrating on finding them), amazing scenes with amazing light at dusk and dawn… and many, many owls - we have our best ever spot-light photos due to Peter and Andrew’s (our tracker) skills to find the birds and Peter’s photographic tuition.

We thoroughly recommend Track and Trail River Camp as a place to stay for the Mfuwe sector, with brilliant accommodation, a wonderful swimming pool, gym and bar / restaurant and food at great prices. South Luangwa is magical and we will always opt for Track and Trail River Camp when we return to this area, it would be like returning home.

We stayed at Track and Trail for 6 nights in July 2024 with our daughter (12) . We are self drivers but not campers and Track and Trails was the perfect place for us. The family chalet are large and very comfortable with a nice view over the river, and the food is …out of this world; really the best we had during our 5 weeks in Zambia. The camp is very close from the gate, very important in the morning when you want to enter early in the park. The area of the lodge was incredible with many animals roaming everywhere and so were the staff. All of them were treating us as we were family members and it was really hard to leave this wonderful place.
We had great sightings in the park as well, which is a dream for photographers. We can’t wait to come back !
Warm regards, Sybille, Tom and Romane

What a fantastic few days we had! A warm welcome in t beautiful restaurant on the river where we always enjoyed delicious meals. Bush bucks and elephants wandered around the grounds and the staff were very caring. We were often escorted to and from our beautiful chalet, the honeymoon suite. The photo safari was super cool, 2x a day a game drive with guide and photographer Peter and spotter Matthew. They know the area, but also the behaviour of the animals, so we have seen a lot. We still enjoy with beautiful pictures. We also used the campsite, which is spacious with excellent facilities. All in all highly recommended, where we like to come back again if we get the chance.
