This place is wonderful mostly because most people who have come here have walked far and are grateful for anything that is relaxing and fine. We came from a ten-hour walk and the beer was the best I had for a long time. The food, however, was too Norwegian, and I don't mean nice. It was filling, but nothing more...

We travelled to Gjendebu Hut by boat after drove to Gjendsheim. Parking fee at the parking area next to the pier is NOK 120 per day. The room (2-person room, with a bunk bed) was very clean. We needed to use our own sleeping liners. Bath and toilet were outside the room. There were lot of hanging hooks for clothes...

Caught the boat from Gjendesheim - you need to be at the landing stage early say 7.30am to make sure you get one of the two boats a day that go to Gjendebu. The Hut is clean and the staff very welcoming. The food was excellent, but please do not consider hutting in Norway as a cheap option. On a...

DNT are generally having the best-value mountain cabins in Norway and Gjendebu is no exception. Well situated with close access to nature and summits and well maintained. The four bed rooms are nice and the showers and drying rooms are very good. Dinner and breakfast aren't as nice as in e.g. Fondsbu, but works well. The lack of mobile coverage...

My boyfriend and I keep referring to this place as the "poop hut" because our room smelled so incredibly disgusting because it was right next to the bathroom (which is really just an outhouse). We were in room 119, and the smell was so bad that I gagged several times. It was awful. However, if you are able to get...

This is, except for Skogadalsbøen, the best place to stay in Jotunheimen. The offer both good accomodation, hot showers, good foods and spectacular surroundings. There is nothing more that you could desire trekking in the Norwegian most picturesque landscapes.

Go by boat to Gjendebu and use it as base for day trips in the mountains. We stayed in tent one night in the mountains and one night at Gjendebu tent camp, where you find water, toilet, little playground and cold beer

This is the fifth year in a row a group of families travel together to a DNT hut in the end of July. There is no coincidence that this was the the third time we chose to go to Gjendebu (http://www.gjendebu.com/gjendebu_uk/index.php). The place is beautifully situated in Joutunheimen National Park, at Gjende, a lake surrounded by steep mountains. You are...
