We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our visit to Australia for the Cricket World Cup. Reception was friendly and helpful. Service staff were efficient and laughed easily. The grounds were well kept and were nice for relaxing in. The food was good and reasonably priced. 30 minutes per person of free wifi per day was reasonable. A...

I stayed here for one night, with a group. It is an old building and my room was very dark, but there was a lovely courtyard garden outside which is where I preferred to sit. Not much to comment on as I was only here very briefly.

I stayed here a couple of years ago. I was delighted then. I am still of that mind. This hotel is impressive which gives a hint of its history as one of the earliest built hotels in the city. The booking -in process is quick and efficient, you are asked if you want to take breakfast and you order the...

First time I've stayed here since Mercure took over (used to be Olim's). Set up hasn't changed too much, but i think they're redone and refurnished some of the rooms. They're all pretty nice. Excellent breakfasts, nice restaurant area. Close to the city (walking distance) and also the War memorial. Good service and will be back again.

We stayed for 2 nights recently in an executive room facing the pretty courtyard on the main level. The room was large, comfortable, and very quiet which led to good sleeps during our stay. The hotel is very old, which provides a unique charm to the place, and has an attached pub with decent food and also a convenient bottle...

Very clean and comfortable room and bed with good squishy pillows. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of everything. Hot food was hot and regularly topped up. Very pleasant staff. Had to close bathroom door at night because toilet system made quite a bit of noise, ok when door closed. Great shower, loved it. Would definitely stay again however...

Visited once again for 4 nights in Feb. It was nice to receive an upgrade which was appreciated. our room this time had a king size bed, and was large and comfortable. As usual the hotel comforts were good, but I have a couple of points to make. It was unusual, but they ran out of our favourite tea (english...

The Mercure Canberra is a convenient and historic location. The building has been there since the 1920s and the Accor Group have kept the original decor in the entry foyer and some of the other communal areas. Rather than being dowdy, it works and the hotel has its own style. It is a bit of a rabbit warren (or it...

Very clean hotel, comfortable bed, small room though and we were given one without a window; good quiet location, parking at back of hotel is free, and convenient. Night staff were very friendly, day staff could have been more friendly/attentive.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia ... more   less
