The Resort is part of a preserved National Park covering 1,013 hectares, Lizard Island Resort is accessible by private air charter from Cairns Airport that services direct flights to and from most major Australian airports. The island experience is like no other place on the Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy secluded picnics with your own private dinghy on one of the many beaches, dive the famous Cod Hole, learn to snorkel or take in one of the numerous natural bird, wildlife, turtle or historical guided tours - there is so much on offer. Lizard Island is also famous for its game fishing and ,exciting light tackle sport fishing and has several vessels for private fishing excursions. At the end of a busy day, try a sunset beach degustation dinner on a private beach, relax in the soothing Essentia Day Spa or simply unwind in the the beautiful Salt Water restaurant and bar - Lizard is like nowhere else located right on the Great Barrier Reef

We recently spent a week at Lizard Island resort, and it was one of the most amazing life experiences we've ever had. This was our second stay at Lizard, and I was concerned that maybe things had been dialled back a little due to the Covid pandemic. Nope! The food, service staff, and experiences were even better than our first visit in 2016. 250km north of Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is the sort of place that rewards being in the water and exploring. You can wade off any of their 20+ pristine beaches and snorkel around the reef directly - no boat trip required! Although there are also boat tours of the inner and outer reef available for an additional cost. If you want to laze by a luxury pool and have drinks brought to you, maybe Lizard isn't quite the best fit for you. But if you want to be in the Coral Sea and explore, there is no better place. The water temperature was perfect and the green sea turtles were everywhere during our visit! The food was amazing, the rooms were perfect minimalist beach chic, the beach club would work with you to ensure you're getting the very best experiences each day, and most importantly the staff were all absolutely brilliant. Thank you to all of them, including the back-of-house staff we never really get to see, for making our stay an experience we will never forget. There is absolutely nothing we would change about our stay - it was absolutely perfect.

What a fabulous long weekend. From start to finish. First thank you East Air for a smooth transition to and from the island. Landing at Lizard Island we were greeted with waves from the staff, and taken to the resort where we were greeted by the manager and immediately offered a late breakfast. The room was beautiful, we stayed at the beach front. We loved the food and atmosphere and activities, some of the best snorkelling we have seen from the reef coral to the abundance of tropical fish and turtles where you can simply walk directly from your doorstep or take one of the motorised boats to the other beaches, (Watson’s by far my fav). We booked for a fishing trip but unfortunately there was something wrong with the big fishing boat, this did not stop the staff from making sure we still got a fishing experience, on a smaller boat but we loved it anyway and caught some big ones…Duncan the skipper really knows his stuff and a lovely guy. As for the staff everyone was lovely, not overbearing but very attentive, super friendly but professional. Big stand outs for us were waitress Chrisy (let’s talk shop 😂) friendly and professional all in one. Lachey (barman), with his drink skills and smile, Carolina tour guide - great sense of humour and thanks for the sunset cruise 😂 Lachlan-waiter for his infections enthusiasm and (I hope this is right) Paul - wine connoisseur for his incredible wine knowledge, thanks for the wine room tour. John the manager you have done an amazing job with your staff, we have stayed at many beautiful places and feel your staff to be the best we have ever had, Thank you again. And good luck wee Bailey in your new job. 😊

Our third visit, and we come because it provides a little of what everybody needs - fancy accommodation, good food -- and diving. And easy to get to from Sydney. In reality, the local dives are pretty ho-hum. But the outer dives are pretty good, especially Cod Hole. Having booked and rebooked a year in advance, we made it clear we were coming for the diving and had booked some more interesting dives, which involved very expensive private charters. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived and the outer-reef dive boat sat firmly on its mooring for the entirely of our visit. Every day, we were told "maybe tomorrow", with a variety of explanations ranging from mechanical through to contractual. On the day we were leaving, the boat took some people fishing. Lizard is a marginal dive destination at the best of times, but without access to the outer reef, it becomes expensive and pointless. The dive staff were great and took us to some local spots (ho hum). I still don't understand what the actual problem was, and there was a fair amount of avoidance of eye contact going on. We had been in constant contact over the preceding months regarding the diving, so it's hard to imagine how a "contractual problem" could have surfaced without warning just before we arrived, and hard to understand how a mechanical problem could suddenly rectify itself without any outward sign of mechanics attending the boat. In other respects it was fine. But as a dive trip, we felt very much short-changed.

Our recent stay here did not live up to expectations. Firstly, when you're staying at a place like this that charges what it charges and boasts of being a luxury destination, you should have high expectations. And when that place fails to deliver it is genuinely disappointing. To begin with, I advised (as requested) my dietary requirements. This included a shellfish allergy and the fact that I do not eat particular food. I also requested an addition to our room. None of this information was received. This is despite the fact that the first person I spoke with when we arrived at the resort I enquired as to whether they had the information, and they said they did. This meant that the restaurant kept trying to serve me the wrong food. I raised my concerns at dinner that night and was reassured that all was taken care of. It wasn't. This was to be an ongoing occurrence. Instead of saying 'no we don't have that email' they pretended that all was ok. But it wasn't for me as it meant I had very few food options and was left wanting. While my partner with no food concerns was having a grand ol time. This continued throughout my entire stay. The wait staff need more training. They leave you waiting for bread and drink orders. It took 15mins of standing at the bar actually to put in my request. It then took roughly as long to receive it. Staff are happy to faff around while not actually doing any work. The mini bar in the room is extremely lacking. If you're offering boring everyday basics at least give guests an option of what to have. And when you say you're going to follow up on something that a guest would like. Do it. We had to ask 3 different staff members for some mugs! It's basic requests such as this that are just frustrating and annoying and not what you would expect at this level. Housekeeping did the barest of jobs. Turndown service was pointless and I'm not sure why they even bothered. Extra experiences are expensive. And be aware they'll charge you for up to '4 hrs'. But then don't actually give you the option of using the entire 4hrs. They bought us back after 3hrs without discussion or option for anything else. But didn't refund us for that hour. Simply put I would not recommend this place. And from reading the previous reviews these are the same issues that many other guests have had but the resort is doing nothing to fix them. And an offer of a bottle of wine does not accommodate the genuine disappointment in such issues. There is nothing special happening at this resort. But boy oh boy do you pay a lot of money for a very basic experience.

Disappointing Stay. Chef is not accomodating, food is not up to the price point. Avoid the beachside villas you can’t sit on the verandas to many sandflys . I do recommend the deep sea fishing but don’t rely on the chef doing your catch any justice.

We went for our honeymoon and loved every moment, the staff were unbelievably friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had amazing experiences snorkeling, the spa getting massages, taking the boats out for a half day picnic, all the food and drinks were fantastic. Special mention to Lachlan for making the best cocktails and he’s fantastic customer service 🙌👏

We were lucky enough to spend a week on this beautiful island. It truly is paradise .from the flight from Cairns & the stunning scenery . We enjoyed it's beautiful beaches by boat & had the most luxurious sea food picnics that were really wonderful & bursting with flavour . The snorkeling opportunitys are vast & we were lucky enough to see many turtles & marine life. The staff are helpful & attentive. The Salt water restaurant is world class with its breath taking views . The food served there is imaginative & fresh & truly a delight to look forward to. The menu is varied & changed daily & was presented beautifully & full of flavour. The accomodation is really lovely . Light & airy with perfect attention to detail & so luxurious. A perfect holiday.

My wife and I stayed 7 nights at Lizard Island resort. Very relaxing, good food and service but after dinner....nothing. We would have loved to have a singer guitarist or pianist to entertain us, and would loved to have danced. Similar resorts around the world thrive on their entertainment after hours but not Lizard. We enjoyed the snorkelling with some lovely coral and clam outcrops. We scratched the backs of many turtles, a lovely experience. Overall a nice restful stay, but not value for money.

I was not sure about going here as I thought the hype and the pictures might not have lived up to expectations. I was wrong. We had a sunset beach villa with plunge pool and it was wonderful. One of the nicest locations o have stayed. The swimming of the beach is perfect, soft sand crystal waters and the food and wine options varied. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Only negative was perhaps the restaurant could do better with service delivery, speed of bringing drinks, removing plates etc, but otherwise can highly recommend

Stayed 2 nights in August as part of a tour with Australian Air Safaris to Cape York. Everything was perfect from the rooms, to the meals and the service. Great walking tracks around the island, and good snorkling
