Daydream Island in the Whitsundays has commenced its demolition and construction program ahead of its long-awaited redevelopment expected to be completed in August 2018. Following the damage caused in March by Cyclone Debbie, Daydream Island has invested $86 million in the redevelopment of the island.
Our room was wonderful we were facing out onto the pool had our own outside area with table and chairs. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The Island has so many pools bars and restaurants to eat at all were very good. Choosing the right...More
Really nice and big islnd but it needs updates, the restaurant was decent but wasn't much of a variety so after a few days it gets a bit repetitive, and this is basically the only place to eat so that's a bit of a negative....More
This resort is set in a good location and the hillside room overlooking the bay was spacious and appreciated, as was the outdoor cinema, however the pool was warm and not refreshing along with the main restaurant serving average food with live entertainment to match....More
My partner and I went to day dream island resort . The device breakfast, lunch dinner was scrumptious. The cocktails at the bar were so refreshing after a swim. We had 5 amazing days here. Can’t wait to come back.
i took my family to this hotel for Christmas 2014 and it's absolutely beautiful, the room was a very good standard with air con, we would wake up to Cockateils sitting on our balcony, Kangaroos jumpin around, nice little cove for snorkeling, Kayaking in the...More

If your guests are staying for one night it is possibly passable - but no longer than that. The food quality and options, alcohol prices, filthy rooms, and general state of disrepair of virtually everything will unfortunately be issues for a longer stay. I fear that in the time since you viewed it and today it may have gone a long way downhill.
Sure there may be a few people whinging just for the sake of it, but you do not get the number of absolutely terrible reviews that have been posted recently for no reason. Over 1/3rd of the people who have posted reviews in the last 6 months have rated the resort "Poor" or "Terrible"

Your kids will have a great time, they don't care about the look of buildings and they probably haven't read all the reviews you have. I just went over on Sunday as we are having our wedding there in April and the kids will have plenty to do.
You have to remember you are on an island and prices are always going to be more expensive.
My tips would be the following:
- take snacks (chip, dip, meals you can heat up, noodles etc) this will save you money instead of eating out for 2 meals/day.
- you can hire a microwave for $10/day (tell them to give it to you for free as if you don't as you don't receive)
- take fruit from breakfast as that will give you something to snack on.
- bring snorkelling gear
- take water bottles you can fill up again (gym, welcome room and breakfast all have bubblers you can fill up bottles)
- BYO alcohol and keep in bags and only drink in room as you are on a licenced resort.
- bring cards/board games just in case it rains so you are prepared (you are on a island)
- go for day trips
- SIGN UP FOR DAYDREAMER CLUB CARD (10% OFF FOOD AND ALCOHOL PLUS OTHER STUFF
(you will find this on there website, it would not let me post it)
With a little planning and a open mind you will have a great time.
Just note the following:
